Windows Update disables competing anti-virus programs

I use Norton anti-virus for nearly a decade.  For this reason, I have not installed Windows Security, as it is in conflict.  I do every week a routine Windows Update.  Two nights ago, it looks like Windows Update automatically installed Windows security without my permission.  This has created a huge conflict with Norton anti-virus, various alerts of infection appeared and my network of connections have been disabled.  I had no choice but to do a system restore and disable Windows Update altogether.  I want to update Windows for occasional useful bugfixes, but cannot take the risk of extreme hassle of security of Windows being installed without my permission.  Any ideas?

So far, the system restore and the sweet Norton seems to have fixed.  But he was mean.

  • When you download an anti virus program I get the message of insufficient permissions, why is it I am logged as administrator.

When you download an anti virus program I get the message of insufficient permissions, why is it I am logged as administrator.

    Hi tomholland69,

    ·         What is the full error message?

    ·         You are able to download other programs?

    ·         What web browser do you use?

    ·         What anti-virus program do you use?

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: Put the computer in a clean boot State to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow the section How to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state of the link to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.

After the clean boot used to resolve the problem, you can follow these steps to configure Windows XP to start normally.

    (a) click Start, run.

    (b) type msconfigand click OK.

    (c) the System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.

    (d) click the general tab, click Normal startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.

    (e) when you are prompted, click restart to restart the computer.

  • How to disable microsoft anti-virus?

How can I disable my anti-virus just long enough to install my wireless router?  The firewall prevents me from installing, and as soon as its installed I'll reactivate it.  Thank you...

Where did you get the drivers from?

If MSE is down, then it is probably a problem!

There should be no need to turn off the anti-virus to install the drivers.

What version of Windows are you using? What wireless router do you use?

There is no need to install ANY drivers for ANY router.

  • report said it did not find an anti virus program? I have Macafee

    Hi Cc' Jackson,.

    1. When did you start to question?

This problem occurs when Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) does not work on a Windows Vista-based computer.

To resolve this problem, you must analyze and repair the WMI repository on the computer database. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. Click Start, type cmd in the search box and press ENTER.

    b. at the command prompt, type the following commands. Pressing ENTER after each command line:

    WinMgmt /verifyrepository

    WinMgmt /salvagerepository

    c. restart the computer and check the system health report.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Value of anti-virus programs

I know that anti-virus programs have never been approved on this site, but I just had an experience that might be of interest. I meant Apple support on a minor matter that they helped me difficulty. Just by talking to them, a very annoying noise (a quick series of four or five beeps sounds strong, metal or clicks) began. She disappears for a few seconds and then, inevitably, come back. It was so strong that I was afraid that my iMac was damaged, and the technician that I was talking to said that she had never heard such a sound. She also said that she could not help me and I have to take my computer to the shop for repairs. That's how things stayed until just at the time when I used my anti-virus program in a desperate attempt to find and fix the problem. Before that, I kept my computer off tension and silence for fear of damage to my machine.

When I applied the anti-virus program, a never-ending stream of files would have been smart appeared on my screen. I was really stuck between the proverbial rock and a hard place, so I decided to trash all of these files. However, after I had deleted THIRTY or FORTY of them, I realized that I had not heard that annoying noises since I started, so I stopped the rampage even if an unknown number of suspicious files remained. It was probably the best thing to do because the noise is not returned.

I don't mention the name of my anti-virus program because some might think I'm just a sneaky vendors, but I think that my experience means something. I could be wrong but it seems to me that this noise is caused by some malicious programs and it fixed my anti-virus program. In any case, I'll send my thanks to this company. They saved me a trip to the Apple store and without a car, it was definitely a trip worth the savings. My iMac 27 "transport by bus on a forty minute trip is not my idea of a fun to spend the afternoon.

FWIW, there is no OS x viruses known in the wild. I don't am not personally at the malicious power of any software that would result described sounds. Without knowing which files have been marked as "smart", there are nothing to say if they were or they weren't. A possibility is that your drive is a failure that can cause noise described. Removing some of the "malicious" files the drive may be inaccessible in the region, that the drive is failing.

I would run first aid disk utility to see if it reports errors. I would keep an eye on her.

    Hello

    1. are you able to install other applications successfully?

According to my research, this error message appears if you have traces of a previous installation of the AVG software.

Download the AVG remover to remove the previous version and then try the installation again and check.

  • Security Center Windows is no protection against the virus, even if my anti virus program is updated and active

Original title: Security Windows symbol said no protection, but my anti virus software says that there is no threat to my computer. My anti virus system is up to date (Kaspersky). Why the red with an x on it to declare shield than the anti virus protection is disabled

My antivirus program is up to date and said that everything is fine, however the red shield with the x is always on and says no virus protection is on

It's never happened before. What's wrong?

    Hi Pitbulls,

Many users of Kaspersky have this same caveat, but this is a simple hoax. There is a fix to get rid of the pesky warning permanently:

Try these steps and see if they help:

    Step 1:

    1. temporarily disable the WMI (WMI) service in:

    a. start > run

    b. type: "services.msc".

    c. and there find/stop WMI

    Step 2:

    Then delete the folder C:\windows\system32\wbem\repository

    Step 3:

Restart the WMI service using the same procedure that you used to stop and restart the computer

It's probably the Windows Security Center that falsely says he is off, you're not the first and it happens to all Anti Virus software brands.
