Windows 7 firewall does not.

Hello.  I have Win7/64-bit.  I was running a security suite, but decided to use the MSE and Win7 firewall.  I uninstalled the suite and went to control panel > system security > Windows Firewall.  I clicked on enable/disable Windows Firewall.  This left column just disappeared. I clicked on the recommended use of the parameters, and I received an error message...

Firewall Windows cannot change some of your settings.  0x8007024c error code.

How Windows Firewall work?

Hi Golfjunky,

Usually, this would happen if security suite that you have uninstalled earlier is not properly uninstalled from the computer.

Method 1

I suggest that you check on the Web site of the vendor security suite for any removal tool to uninstall completely from the computer and check if the Windows Firewall is working properly.

Method 2

If the previous step fails, see if the Windows Firewall service is running properly on the computer.

(a) click Start type services.msc in the Search box, and then click OK.

(b) in the Services (Local) list, click Windows Firewall , and then click Properties.

Ensure that the service status is set to started and type set to automatic startup.

Method 3

If the previous step fails then I would suggest that you reset the default Windows Firewall settings and check if it works.

Restore Windows Firewall settings

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/restore-Windows-Firewall-settings

I hope this helps!

  • Windows 7 firewall does not not the domain profile

    Network configuration is the following:

Server 2008 Standard with a nnn.nnn.nnn.2 fixed IP address

DHCP is not enabled or in-use (have no idea why)

Workstation is Windows 7 Pro with fixed IP of nnn.nnn.nnn.15 and was formerly joined to the domain successfully.

    Gateway/router is at nnn.nnn.nnn.1

I start the machine Win 7 and can successfully connect to the field (using credentials put in cache maybe?) and I can ping the server. However, the firewall on the workstation uses the profile of private networks, when it should use the domain profile. Run gpupdate/force and get error tried it impossible to contact the domain controller. I checked the local policy on the workstation settings, and they are all set to not configured, as they should be, I hope. How can I get this workstation firewall to use the domain profile?

    Thanks Rohit,

Got if fixed. Seems that DHCP is configured with the DNS setting about to workstation to Server DNS on the Internet. After changing to point to the DNS server on the domain server, which sets that problems and a few questions more than I didn't got to yet. This problem is solved. • Windows Firewall does not start. Cannot start connection ICS internet sharing service

Hi Please help, my computer has been infected by a pretty nasty trojan, (MEREDROP) I managed to remove it (and all of its subsequent downloaded files), but it was very difficult. in any case since that my windows firewall does not start. I get the error code. 1075 and the msg (windows cannot start (ICS) internet connection sharing service). I tried to replace registry files, I tried the system restore, I tried to change the permissions, I tried to turn it on manually, I've updated my BITS. Ive also ensured that the dependent services are running. According to my list of component services, they are... Nothing works. I need to format the HD for this problem or is there a standalone windows firewall available for download?

Thanks for posting. Please note that the use of system restore after infection and removal of malware very probably re-infected your computer. Please follow all instructions on this thread HERE. Let us know the results.

    Hello Bill,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.

It seems that you have studied this question, but I have a few questions to help you troubleshoot.

    • When the firewall service has failed to start?
    • You have errors in the log of events dealing with the firewall service? Check the system and safety and the Application event log.
    • The Firewall Service is set to automatic? She is arrested or if it is in a State of waiting? Is the journal on the expected system Local?
    • Please check the remote procedure call Service and the Base Filtering Engine Service is started and set to automatic.
    • You have any 3rd party firewall in place in addition to the Windows Firewall?

Please let me know the results, so I can continue to help you.

    Hello

    1. have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

    2. What is the error message or an exact error code?

    3. what security software is installed on your computer?

I would suggest trying the following methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

Run the fixit from Microsoft Fixit article and if that helps.

Diagnose and automatically fix problems of Windows Firewall service:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/windows_firewall_diagnostic/

Method 2: The driver of the authorization (mdsdrv.sys) firewall is a system protected Windows file. You can run the tool File Checker system and if the file is found to be damaged, it will be replaced.
    Proceed with caution.

    a. go to start / all programs / accessories.

    b. right click on the item "Command Prompt" and select the option 'run as administrator '.

    c. click 'Continue' on the UAC prompt.
In the command window, type the following command.
     SFC/SCANNOW

    d. press ENTER.

This will take a few minutes to complete. Try not to use the computer during execution of SFC.
When the tool is finished, restart the computer and review the firewall options.
    Let me know the results.

I keep on getting error 0x6D9 and 0 x 80070424 code when you try to activate my windows firewall, also my mcafee firewall does not work. I have Windows 7 and it started only caused since last week. Can someone give me an idea on how to solve this problem?

When you have McAfee running, he provided the Firewall & automatically deleted the Windows Firewall.   Panel\Windows Firewall control page should have shown a message say.  If you managed to change the settings for the Windows Firewall then you might have corrupted both the McAfee & Windows Firewall.

I really think you should try a restore for some time point before you tried modifications, if that is even possible.

If you have uninstalled McAfee Control Panel, programs, then you must also run the Tool McAfee Consumer Product Removal or you will get several unpredictable problems.

If you still have problems after running the McAfee tool then it could be the result of the previous Windows Firewall changes & the corruption of the system resulting.  Your system is in an unknown state as a result of these changes.

You can try running SFC/scannow in an admin command prompt, but it wouldn't do any good.

You may need to use the installation DVD to do a repair installation.  I hope get you lucky, but you may need to do a complete reinstall of Windows.

  • Services of Windows Vista 64 does not, please help!

    Hi thanks for reading.

Noticed the other day my firewall is not running. A few weeks ago my AVG anti virus asked me if I wanted to move to a premium account for a 30 day trial and contained their own version of a firewall. He said that he would resort to Windows Firewall when finished.

30 days passed, and he asked me to return to the original settings and the free version. I don't check if windows firewall started running.

And so back when I noticed.

What Ive tried: Panel > Security > windows firewall - says "windows firewall does not use recommended settings to help protect your computer" and there is a button for "update settings now" which when you click on it, I get the thing of glass hour for a few seconds and nothing happens.

Run > services.msc > Windows Firewall - said State 'arrested' firewall service and when you are prompted to start, gives me error 6801

Also noticed now that windows update and windows Defender will not be updated. Windows update search updates, but up quickly the code Error 80070426 and once again, to enforce > services > windows update/defender does not work.

Then in flicking around, I have observed under the information system in 'computer' tab, he says: 'this copy of windows is not activated, click here to activate now' and Im thinking it is crazy! I have not had my PC very long, but I have activated vista right after that I installed it when buying. If I click on the link, and it says: 'a problem occurred when Windows tried to activate. Error code 0x80070426

Edit: just thought of something that can help. Awhile back, before this all started, windows update prompted me one afternoon to install Service Pack 2 and I thought "why not?" Well, after a complete system failure and me to have my friend rally and he manages to get into the command prompt and run 2 types of checkdisk, I go back to my computer. Now, I don't think it off anything, or whatever it may be disabled, but something could have been damaged?

IM puzzled and any help would be massively appreciated! If anyone needs more info, let me know!
