Windows 7 - How can I see my real pictures when I'm in the thumbnail view?

I just bought a laptop with Windows 7 installed.  In my pictures folder, all my photo files display as an icon generic picture of Windows in the sample photo.  I can't figure out how to get the thumbnail to display my photo.   I have Windows 7 and this has never happened before.  It's a pain in the neck to find a photo in particular, when each photo in the folder has the same generic image and not a thumbnail of the photo.  I have to double-click the generic icon and open it to what is photography.  Help! I've never had this problem with Windows XP.

Assuming that your images are stored in the pictures folder in your Windows 7...
Start button > photos > tab organize > folder and Search Options > view tab, uncheck always "show icons, never thumbnails" > OK
