Windows 7 - install updates

Whenever I have shut down my computer (Windows 7) I get the message 'if please, do not feed power off or unplug your machine - installation update 1 of 1.  Apparently the update fails even though I am not so notified.  How can I get rid of this message?

The number of KB for the update in question? You can try to download manually from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads and install it manually.

If you are connected Internet on shutdown when the update tries to install, try to disconnect first. Temporarily disable your Antivirus utility.

  • Vista Service Pack 1 - Windows cannot install updates.

My fathers computer is running Vista Service Pack 1 on Windows Vista Edition family.

He was unable to update for some time now, because of the Service Pack, it uses at present.  Any attempt to update returns the message "Windows cannot check updates".

I tried to solve this problem by running the tool upgrade of the system, then the standalone installer.  The Setup program for the next service pack returns the fatal error 8000ffff.  Any ideas?  Previously, I've read that antivirus could cause a problem.  I tried the installation of the service pack with the antivirus software completely removed again without success.

    I just located this - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Update-Error-8000FFFF - I should try that first?

Thank you for all your help.  None of the updates were drivers and nothing happened to interrupt the installation, so I'm stuck for what could have gone wrong.

In any case, it seemed the logical thing tore it and start over.  I managed to get my hands on Hirens Boot CD and using the facitily MiniXP on which I recorded files that desperately, they would not lose on a newly bought external drive.  Then I did a reinstall of Visa that is now fully updated to Service Pack 2.  I tried to tempt them in the purchase of Windows 7, but that's another story.

Needless to say that they are now set up to allow regular backups and system restore is running very well!

    Thanks again for your help.

  • How to replace "apply downloaded update now" with "Check for Updates" in the menu help when the update fails because the downloaded update files are missing but the "Ready to install update" window keeps appearing?

    Question

I have another type of problem with Firefox

    Description

Window "Ready to Install" Firefox "Software Update" appeared. The folder "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\updates\0" contained the files update.mar, update.status and update.version. Each of the 3 files have been deleted. The next time that Firefox has been started, no update occurred because update files were missing. In the Menu bar, clicking Help showed in the menu drop-down that "apply downloaded update now" was always on the list. By clicking on "Apply downloaded update now" open "Software Update" window "Ready to install update", so that Firefox still considers that the update files exist, but they do not. In the window "Software Update", by clicking on "Restart Firefox" restart of Firefox, but once again it there's no update, and remains "apply downloaded update now" on the Help menu. How can "Apply downloaded update now" be replaced by "Check for Updates" so the update files can be downloaded?

    Version of Firefox

    3.6.3

    Operating system

    Windows XP

You can manually reset the software update feature by closing Firefox and remove the file "updates" (which seems you have done) and the two files "active - update.xml" and "updates.xml" - these are in the installation (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox) directory or in the profile folder (C:\Documents and Settings\nom_utilisateur\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\something.default).

If it does not, see our KB article How to resolve the failure of the update of Firefox update error message - the section of 'last resort' can be useful, or or read this article from MozillaZine KB, software update.

  • Windows 7 - error code: 80070246 (cannot install updates)

Original title: Windows 7 update has failed.

I have 10 updates that must be installed, and it continues to fail. I get the error code 80070246. I tried a .net removal fix suggested in another post, rename c:\windows\softwaredistribution, manually download the updates (which also failed), sfc/scannow have produced no results... The updates that I need to install are: KB982381, KB981078, KB982526, KB982670, KB982526, KB982670, KB978542, KB78601, KB79482, KB980218, KB971033, KB980408, KB980846 and KB981793. I tried the update of windows running as administrator thus (the account I use has administrative privileges). Pre-release candidate seems to work perfectly. Since it expired and I had to buy a copy of Windows 7, I had problems. Why this version would not work as well as pre-release?

OK, so thank you to Alex blood Support technique Microsoft. The solution to my fixing corrupt system files was to run the installation on my Windows DVD install and choose the option 'Upgrade. ' I backed up all my documents in case where, but my system remained intact. I didn't format my hard drive and reinstall Windows, so I am grateful that this solution worked. I just someone would wish he suggested earlier.
