  Scroll down the list of services (it may be advantageous to click on the 'service' column to sort the services by alphabetical order) until you find the program "Windows Installer".

  Windows update no longer works if you don't have XP SP3 installed. To check your system service pack level, click on start, run and type "Winver" in the Run dialog box and click on 'OK'.  If your system already has XP SP3 installed, you can try to reset the windows update components using the link below.

So I uninstalled everything that I could find that has been linked and script errors went away. This computer did not have a threat themselves in a scan with more than a score of level 1 (cookies) in the month. So why would this problem appear?
