Windows 7 photo viewer will not open images

My laptop has just been reduced to factory settings and lost all my files, fortunately, most of them have been recovered by a technician and he burned them on a disc for me. There is a mixture of photos and documents, no open documents and only a few images opens with Photo Viewer, the rest goes to tell an error message "windows Photo Viewer cannot open this picture because a photo viewer does not support the file format or you do not have the latest updates for photo viewer." No idea how to solve this problem? Thank you.

It is highly possible that files recovered
were partially crushed. If the technology who have recovered
files had success by viewing... maybe you
could ask him what software he used.

You can view the files in Windows Paint?

If you have no success in the file display... the
more info can be useful...

There is software that can be able to
Restore files. If you want to experiment...
the following programs of detail may be worth a try.

Good luck...

The following programs are not free, but the demo

In the case of the Windows Photo Viewer, the official documentation says that it can display the following types of files (although you can add a little more by installing one or more codecs- LINK):

    Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG)

    .jpg and .jpeg,

  • Windows 7 photo viewer will not display all images, except in slide show mode.

I use a laptop computer with a monitor connected via a dock of the USC.  Everything worked fine until today.  When I use the monitor as the only display, windows 7 Photo Viewer does all the images except in slide show mode.   To be more precisely, after clicking on the file, Photo Viewer displays "loading".  If you wait long enough, the image appears later, but if you move or the zoom, the image window disappears.  If you go to the slide, the image appears immediately.  However, if I use my laptop screen, or both screens in extended desktop, Photo Viewer works very well.  Basically, as long as the screen of the laptop is off, photo viewer gets confussed and cannot function properly in slide show mode.

I read through existing similar questions, but impossible to find a solution.  Help, please!  Thank you!

  • Photo Gallery Windows and Windows Live Photo Gallery will not open

Windows Photo Gallery does not open. This happened after trying to import images. Photo Gallery does not recognize the old photos so it would import duplicates, so I kept cancelling the process. Now it does not open. The blue circle goes as it will open up and then nothing happens. I downloaded Windows Live Photo Gallery, and it opens either. I have Windows Vista Home Premium version 6. On rare occasions, the gallery will open. What can I do? I read in this forum to rename the file, but it does not work. I did a system restore and that doesn't work anymore. Someone knows what can be done?

  • Windows 7 photo viewer will not be printed

    Everything prints OK.
Photo Viewer gives the following from their selection error message... 'Print '.  That is to say BEFORE the print dialog box and before a printer is selected. The error message is "Photo Viewer cannot print this picture because there is no printer installed, or a service that Windows needs is not running."

Obviously, the printer is installed (prints everything else), if this service is not running.  Or is there something else?

    Any ideas gratefully received

PS (I found a similar request, but the response was not not applicable in this case)

    Hi sj_morris,

    a. what happens when you right-click on the image and select the option print?
    b. you are unable to print photos specific or all the pictures on your computer?

You can try the methods one by one and check them off below if it helps.

    Method 1: Update printer drivers.

    1. open the Manager of devices by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, click System and security, and then, under system, clicking Device Manager.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. in the list of hardware categories, find the device you want to update, and then double-click the device name.
    3. click on the tab driver, click Update driver, and then follow the instructions.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

You can also download and install the latest updates from the site of the factory.

For more information visit http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isn ' t-work properly

Method 2: Make sure you have a default printer.

    1. open devices and printers, click the Start button, and then click the start menu, click devices and printers.
2 right-click the printer that you want to use and then click on set as default printer.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/change-your-default-printer

Method 3: Reset the print spooler.

To restart the print spooler service, follow these steps:

You must be logged on as administrator to perform these steps.

    1. open administrative tools by clicking the Start button, then Control Panel. In the search box, type administrative tools, and then click Administrative Tools.
    2. double-click on Services.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    3. right click on the print spooler service, and then click Properties.
    4. on the general tab, next to startup type, make sure that automatic is selected.
    5. If the service is not already running, under Service status, click Start and then click OK.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  • Windows Vista Photo Gallery will not open .jpg on desktop but in a folder on the desktop - why?

I use vista and if I put a .jpg on the desktop image I open it with any normal program 'open with', with the exception of the Windows Photo Gallery.

If I create a folder on the desktop and then to move the image in the folder it opens very well as usual.  I logged as a different user on the same computer to test if this office was undergoing the same wierdness.  These are the works very well as it is supposed to.  Accordingly, I find that there are some bad configured "widget" on my main desktop of the user to open the image files automatically when they are on the desk.

How to restore the default double click of the image so this Windows Photo Gallery it opens on the desktop?

OK, I found the reason and the solution.  I want to thank myself to resolve this weird behavior of Vista

the problem occurs because a URL (web link), you have on the desktop is too long.  something like a link to google maps for example or something else Street which is more then 64 characters is originally the Gallery windows to screw up.  Why these two files different, sitting on the desktop may be related, I don't know, but they are.

find the link that is the author of the offence and delete or move elsewhere and out of your office and bingo!  your desktop image viewer works again.

    HOW TO FIX:
I found the easy long url because there were only a few links on my desk so if you have a lot and you are not sure which one is, simply create a folder called 'junk url' and move all web links in this directory.  Now, you will see that your office is working again as it should so that you know that one of those that you moved is bad.  Now, to pull everyone out, one at a time on your desktop and keep stable your .jpg image to see if it considers the image.  One of these URLS will begin his shows do not and when you check the properties of this url, you will see that it is a super long address.  One who is bad - get rid of him and now your fixed.

  • Photo Gallery will not open picture

After screwing around upgrading to windows 10 and then find that it did not some of the things that I assumed that it would report to Windows 7, I went back to Windows 7.

I just now tried opening a photo gallery file (not open for a long time prior) that has been in my computer has always been initially created on/with Photo Gallery, and I'm now greeted with this message:

"Photo Gallery can't open this photo or video.  This file format is not supported or you do not have the latest updates of photo gallery"

What is going on?  How can I get the latest updates to the photo gallery to see if this is the solution I'm looking for?

    I'd install fresh from http://get.live.com.

All Windows 7 is indeed postponed to 10 Windows, it's just not by default.  For example, after having upgraded the default image program could change with the new application, but you can always switch to the viewer of Windows 7. But that applies to all parts of it.  You can do basically Windows 10 stay exactly like 7 If you want to. Example:

    Hello

I doubt that this question has something to do with the laptop.
I guess that it s software (Win 7) related question or maybe it related to this folder special photo
I think you should try different records with different picture and different file formats

  • Windows Media Player 12 will not open or read CD/DVD

Excuse me, I know that I posted earlier but I accidentally hit the wrong button and it says has answered my question and it was not. I had a virus on my computer and it was cleaned professionally. Now my windows media player will not open. He also will not play a cd/dvd or existing music files on my computer. The icon appears on the screen, but nothing happens when I try to open it. I can't do a system restore because there is nothing to restore, my computer was completely wiped out. Someone suggested this below "Disable media features" reboot and then turn on again. I tried already with no luck. I'm also totally updated everything I could find to put on my computer up-to-date.

    1. click on Start (lower-left) and then on Control Panel.

    2. click on programs and features.

    3. on the left side of the screen, click on 'Windows turn features on or off".

    4. look for the entry called multimedia features and extend it by using the symbol. +.

    5. uncheck the box for Windows Media Player.

    6. click on OK.

    7 restart the PC.

    8. click on Start (lower-left) and then on Control Panel.

    9. click on programs and features.

    10. on the left side of the screen, click on 'Windows turn features on or off".

11 look for the entry called multimedia features and to extend it using the symbol +.

    12. check the box for Windows Media Player.

    13. click on OK.

    14. restart the PC.

I was afraid of that - "Configuration parameters can be set wrongly."

On google, there are a few reports of this error message and I couldn't find any that it is resolved. I hope that someone else will be "the chip" with a solution. I'm sorry.

There are some media player FixIt who might want to try (I have not had your specific problem and Ive not run the FixIt so can't say for sure).

You can try things like a SFC/scannow , that can help, but I doubt it. I guess it depends on what the virus.

You could check that the virus is actually went in downloading, installing, free update (update in the Admin) and running a scan with Malwarebytes , but if it was 'cleaned professionally"should be deleted. But unfortunately things that his attack can still be altered.

You could try a test, to create a new user account 'test' and the connection through that to see if WMP works from this account. for example, it can be your user profile that has been damaged. If this account works WMP then migrate your data everywhere...

If all goes well, a WMP expert will come to the rescue.
