  I get frequent crashes and Blue Screen of Death, and error loading of pop-up windows, so I can't access Windows Firewall or system restore. What happens here? Since they are free programs, they offer very little help to solve problems, so I uninstalled both of them (at the same time as Windows Defender to avoid conflicts) and installed Windows Security Essentials which works very well. My last problem is one is the crash suddenly, but to be honest I him have not lived since the clean boot. Hoping that...

  I had a hard drive failure partial who gave no symptoms or errors except a VERY slow start-up and operation.  I tried to do a restore of the entire system of my Home Server 2011 backups to see if, perhaps, just the image was corrupt.  USB was created and all drivers copied from pilots for the full system restore folder.  Has started the full restoration of the system and loaded the missing NETWORK adapter driver by using the scanner for drivers.  Driver support was successful but no lights NIC and the message "cannot find server".  NETWORK card was working fine before, even with the bad hard drive and also after the abandonment of the restoration.  Installed the new drive hard C:-System and that was the main problem, BUT..., the later to restore attempt was always the NIC starts not problem.  Tried the driver directly at Gigabyte support and drivers drivers for the full restoration of the system of records from several different backups.  No love.  Just NIC does not start after the specified load successful pilot.

  All good advice?

  After a recent power outage, my system has restarted with a weird and very common Windows problems range. The system boots fine, all my personal files/folders/apps are intact, have suddenly stopped almost all functions of applications, but many crucial functions of the Windows kernel. Everything seems to point to several Windows Services are unable to start (administrative tools on the start menu). I am running Win XP SP3 and that he was going to upgrade to Windows 7, but I wanted to backup everything in advance. APPS or windows appear in the toolbar AT ALL, but the Quick Launch toolbar works very well, just like the tray button and start tasks (?! )!). If I reduce a window, it "disappears" (Nothing on the task bar), but I can restore it using the alt - tab keyboard shortcut to switch apps, so all applications/windows appear on the list of the Task Manager. A few apps is paralyzed bad, as the player windows media, itunes, etc. (I guess because the service windows audio can not not start), some won't start at all, but 90% of them work fine, except to try to copy or back up all files. I can create new files, however. I'm desperate to find a solution to repair XP3 Win WITHOUT losing my installed applications and files, before I try and switch to WIndows 7. Any help/suggestions/links/advice would be much appreciated. I'm an experienced user, but I've never met so many malfunctions based on the OS at a time. I, however, very painfully learned (years before that my system so complex) it's been almost a re-installation of Windows guarantees to lose my installed apps and files, the directory tree architecture associations.

  I'll be honest with you - your message is so difficult to read that I don't bother to go through all that. Next time consider using white space, ball or points numbered, etc. to make your message more readable. I stopped reading after your first sentence and only scanned the rest quickly. I do not mean to hurt your feelings; just trying to help you get targeted answers you need for the future.

  The blackout has corrupted your Windows installation. Back up your data now. Since you have problems so much, it would be probably best is to remove the hard drive, put it in a USB drive enclosure and attach it to another computer to copy the data OR start the target with Linux Livecd such as Knoppix system and copy the data to an external hard drive. IOW, do not use the damaged windows to try to get your data.

  You can try a repair that will leave your programs and facility data intact, but with this widespread bribery, it is unlikely to work. However, it takes only a few minutes and is so worth a try. If the repair facility does not work there is nothing to do, but a clean install. And Yes, it will mean that over again.

  Consider buying a UPS to help prevent future damage by power outages. For a single computer, you should look for one in the area of $60 to 80. A more expensive UPS is not necessary. Another good disaster recovery strategy is to buy an external hard drive and Acronis True Image. You can image your system (and can make an incremental backup image so that your image is still current). You can apply your image and be back running that you were in relatively few minutes after a hard drive or Windows to fail.

  Recently, I met a problem with my wifi icon in the system tray. At startup, the icon does not and continues to lead the blue sign loading. On right click, it turns into a different icon with a red x. To the left by clicking on the icon does absolutely nothing however other icons work perfectly well. The section in the control panel associated with networking also does not.

  I am able to access the internet on some sites. Some sites like hotmail etc do not load.

  I tried to reboot in safe mode, and there is no problem however, troubleshooting doesn't show anything wrong. Enter services.msc, there is nothing to slow down the computer.

  Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem?

  Provide information on your system, the better you can:

  What is your system brand and model?

  What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

  Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

  The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

  The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?

  You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

  If the system works, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did not work properly?

  Some tools Anti Virus 'protect' your system so that they will not allow a restore of the system work properly.

  There was no administrator password prompt, but the console began without incident. I was unable to copy these files to a folder. (Yes, I checked my spelling and made certain that the commands, parameters and syntax are accurate.) I created another directory and tested the console by copying the files to repair to the secondary directory. These copied without any errors. I was able to discern that there are no problems with the console itself.  At this point, I'm not sure how to proceed.  There is data that has not yet been backed up and must be recovered where it is suggested to do a new/factory install. Therefore, I need to know if there is another way to proceed to the recovery or if I do a fresh install.   Just to be clear, when you have tried, for example, to run this command:

  copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak

  But you did another directory (say 'c:\windows\otherdir') managed by running the following command:

  Copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\otherdir\system

  If this is the situation in which you are in, you are essentially impossible to create a backup copy of the current registry damaged.  This is not the end of the world, because as you can see by reading the full article, you never use these files master anyway.  This step is just included "on the side of caution" so that you can restore the original registry files, corrupted, if for some reason you wanted to.

  Because you cannot start the system anyway, you might as well begin the process described in the article without creating these master files.

  You can either make the step remove first:

  delete c:\windows\system32\config\system

  or just try to copy the files in the directory of repair on the files in the \system32\config directory and answer 'Yes' when asked if you want to replace the existing file.

  Start in safe mode did not help.  The computer wnt in a mode of repair without end, without any results.  I finally got a memory diagnostic option (F8 or F12 - can't remember which - of the splash screen) and ran it for the hell of it.   Somehow, when it is finished, the computer started upward.  I did a system restore and I thought that was OK.  Then I met several different errors and finally gave up. All the problems started with me trying to upgrade to Vista Service Pack 2.  The installation failed (twice).
