Windows 7 task bar and especially start menu freezes constantly

Recently, I have had weird problems with the taskbar and especially start menu gel and the entire system trolling. I'm sure this isn't hardware problems, like my laptop with windows 7 Professional has a processor core i5 and 6 GB of ram. Sometimes for the use of my computer, just start menu freezes without reason when I type something in the search box. The taskbar freezes too sometimes, but rarely. I find it really weird because when I say sometimes, I mean about 3 times a day. Even more troubling, whenever windows Explorer freezes completely up, I got Task Manager and see that I'm only using about 25% 50% cpu and ram. To make things worse, I have manually to complete the process explorer.exe in Task Manager, and then open it again with race, only to freeze again just after that the taskbar appears. Is could someone please tell me what is happening.

Hello

1. Since when are you facing this problem?

2. don't you make changes to the computer before the issue started?

Please follow the steps mentioned below.

Method 1: Run the resolution of Performance problems from the link below and for the question.

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-performance-Troubleshooter

Method 2:

Please check in safemode, if the problem persists. If the problem does not persist in safe mode, then perform the clean boot procedure in order to check whether a third-party program installed on the computer is causing the problem.

Follow the steps mentioned in the article below.

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

NOTE: After completing the troubleshooting turn your computer to normal startup.

    Hello

This could be due to a virus or infection of malware on the computer or problems with the Database Cache icon on the computer. I wish I had this information to better understand:

    (1) have you run an analysis using software registry cleaner on your computer recently?

    (2) what antivirus application do you use on your computer?

Refer to these methods in the order in which they are presented, and check the status of the issue.

    Method 1:

Run the difficulty of following article and see if it helps:

Difficulty of broken desktop shortcuts and common system maintenance tasks

    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/system_maintenance_for_windows/

    Method 2:

These types of problems occur sometimes due to the infection by the virus in the computer. You can scan your computer from a Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

    Method 3:

  • I don't have the desktop icons, task bar or the start menu. All I have is my wallpaper.

I think I'm done inadvertently the Explorer.exe process when trying to figure out which bogged down my laptop. I have now no start menu, no desktop icons, no task bar... nothing! The paper just painted. When I right click on the wallpaper I get nothing. I have no idea how to get that back. If I had not left my email up, I wouldn't even be able to access the internet!

    Hello.

You should be able to press Ctrl + SHIFT + ESC to open the Task Manager.
From there, click on file > new task (run...), then type "explorer.exe" in the dialog box and click on enter.
Of course, should explore back upward during restart as well.

  • During an update to Windows Vista, my office has disappeared with the task bar and start menu.

    Hi cthodges

Thank you for using the Microsoft Answers Forums!

I would like to ask you a few questions to help focus in the right direction:

Are there other specific details that you can provide that will help us understand and solve your problem?

We can try a few steps and check if it works:

Run explorer.exe from the Task Manager > new > task. If the start menu reappears, it would confirm the cause.

We can now perform the following steps:

    Step 1:

Run an on-line analysis of your PC of malicious software:

If you want to scan your computer for malware and potentially unwanted on a Web site, please use the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner.

Windows Live OneCare safety scanner is an online service that lets scan you your computer to protect yourself, clean and operate at its best. Use our free protection scan to check and remove viruses, spyware and other potentially unwanted software and to find vulnerabilities in your Internet connection.

You can also run Anti-Malware on your computer. Follow the steps in this link:

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistasecurity/thread/ba80504b-61f1-4D71-960f-b561798b7b42

    Step 2:

To use a boot option, follow these steps:

    a. restart your computer and start pressing F8 on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured to start to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.

    b. Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and press ENTER.

    c. when the boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in the bottom, select the installation that you want to start and then press ENTER.

If it works fine in safe mode, infer you that all third-party programs are causing the problem.

Put the computer in a clean boot (namely if any third-party software hinders the process)

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Check with step 1 (run a clean boot):-If everything works well after a clean boot, you can deduce that some third-party services are at the origin of the problem.

Continue with the remaining steps to pin-point on the third party service.

(Note: after find you the problem causing the program, you will have to perhaps to update or install a newer version of the program and also don't forget to put the computer to a normal startup)

    S tep 3 :

The SFC utility allows administrators to perform an analysis of all protected resources to make sure they are the correct version. Whether SFC should find all incorrect versions in one of these protected resources, SFC will be replaced by the correct versions.

You can still run a sfc on the windows vista computer scan. To run a scan suite sfc as follows:

    a. Click Start, in the start search bar type cmd, right-click on the command prompt icon in the box programs and then click Run as administrator.

    b. at the command prompt type sfc/scannow , and then press ENTER.

See this link for more information:

  • Firefox does not open in full screen on the task bar and I have to go over it to see the web page.

Firefox does not open in full screen on the task bar and I have to go over it to see the web page.

Firefox window is sometimes "off screen" somehow. Often, you can force it to appear on the screen by right clicking on the thumbnail image just above the taskbar and choose expand. Does it work?

A possible cause for this is that the file that stores the positions and sizes of window is corrupt. You can delete this file and Firefox will return to standard window resizing.

#1 method: If you can get a zoomed window:

Open the settings folder (AKA Firefox profile) current Firefox help

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > troubleshooting information
    • (menu bar) Help > troubleshooting information
    • type or paste everything: in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table of the page, click on the view file"" button. This should launch a new window that lists the various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

Leave this window open, switch back to Firefox and output, either:

    • "3-bar" menu button > button "power".
    • (menu bar) File > Exit

Pause while Firefox finishing its cleanup, then rename xulstore.json to something like xulstore.old. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename this to localstore.old.

Launch Firefox back up again. Windows normally appear again?

#2 method: If you can not get a Firefox window for all:

Close Firefox by right clicking the icon in the taskbar > close all windows.

Using the Run dialog box (windows key + R) or the start search bar menu type or paste the following and press Enter to drill down to the profiles folder:

    %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Here you can see a folder - in this case, double-click that - or more than one case - in this case, double-click on in what looks like the most recently updated.

Scroll down and rename xulstore.json to something like xulstore.old. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename this to localstore.old.

Launch Firefox back up again. Windows normally appear again?

Then, to re - light bars, you can use one of the following methods to view the list of the toolbar, and then select the desired bars it:

To activate the menu bar, toolbar bookmarks or other bars, click it in the list.

    Hello

You can access Mode safe? Repeatedly press F8 as you start? If yes you can try Control Panel - device
Manager - graphics card - Double click on - driver tab - click on UPDATE driver - then right click
on devices and UNINSTALL - REBOOT.

Another method to try to get to the desktop (try in normal Windows Mode without failure)
CTRL + ALT + DELETE and on the tab process EXPLORER.exe and COMPLETE the PROCESS on this subject - then
on the Applications tab - lower right - new task - type in EXPLORER.exe. Safe mode is reached
by tapping F8 as you start several times.

  • Windows 8 How to revive the desktop and the Start Menu?

Hello, if you are using Windows 8, sometimes we are asked to open the Task Manager and close some programs for performance reasons. Strangely, programs that have been closed with the X button at the top right are still reported running and need to be stopped manually via Task Manager! During the closure of the "Desktop" program (Yes, it is in the list and it is possible to simply close), how it can be restored? Where doesn't he disappears and with it also the Start Menu? We tried to find via the command run, and we stopped the machine and restarted does not. Now, there is just an o/s hidden without user interface! The machine responds to CTRL + ALT + DELETE to bring up the Task Manager. Thank you.

You can absolutely close, for sure.  But, apps Store of Windows cannot do the slower computer.  Memory is marked as 'open for use' and can be erased and reused for any new process in the clock cycle (approximately a 1000th of a second), then it poses absolutely no load on the system just let them "running" forever.  Developers sometimes refer to this frozen as "tomb-stoned.  This is the reason for the new model of application development, so that the users do not have to worry about closing or opening an application. They just use the computer and do what they want without a slowdown.  You know, like the iPad :)
