Windows 7 Ultimate, backup on external hard drive

Mr President.

can I save my hard drive (250 GB) on an external hard drive
then format my HDD,
and then restore from an external hard drive?

Also my computer does not work since the external hard drive
without restoring the internal hard disk.

Any help is appreciated.

Hello

Welcome to the community Microsoft and thanks for posting the question. I'll certainly try and help you perform the backup.

Windows Backup backup all folders selected the first run and then it only backs up files that are new or have been modified since the last backup was made. Periodically, Windows creates a new, full of back up. Each full backup is called in a backup. When you view your backups of files, you can see all the backup periods with date ranges.

Meet your respective questions:

1. Yes, you can backup your data to the external hard drive (250 GB) disk hard.

2. Yes, after taking the back upward, you can format your hard drive.

3. Yes, the reinstallation of Windows 7, you can also restore the backup of data from the external hard drive.

4. no, you will not be able to start the computer from the external hard drive (hard drive backup).

I suggest you follow the steps mentioned below in the Microsoft article:

How to backup and restore in Windows 7

Hope the information is useful. Let us know if you need help with Windows related issues. We will be happy to help you.

    Concerning

Have you tried another USB port (your post is unclear)?

The external hard drive has its own power supply or just connect with a USB cable?  If there is no separate power supply, disconnect all other USB devices (except keyboard and mouse) and see if that helps.

Only the external drive shows in Device Manager (start > run > devmgmt.msc > OK) to the title of "hard disks"?  If Yes, what is displayed when you double-click on and look at 'Device status' and 'Use of the device' in the general tab?

I tried Virtual PC, and vhd mounting procedures.

    Hello

read this tutorial on how to do

To restore a full backup of the computer, you must proceed within the Windows recovery environment. To access the Windows recovery environment, you will need to insert your Vista DVD in the DVD drive on your computer and turn on your computer. The computer starts and you see the BIOS lists the hardware on your computer, and other information. When this information has been disabled, your computer will see that a bootable DVD is inserted and present a prompt similar to the Figure 1 below.

  • Email Backup on external hard drive

When I try to export my email on an external hard drive for backup purposes, I get a message "the message export has failed. Help?

What registry fix program? I reread the article and didn't see any registry fix program there.  The export procedure is quite simple.  At what point is there fault and what is the height or doesn't happen when it breaks down?  You get the error messages - if yes, what is the EXACT text?

BTW, this article contains instructions on how to backup everything (your settings as well as your e-mails) which will facilitate the recovery if it comes to that.  Maybe you would try instead this backup of ob miethod instead of article that I provided before was only for emails themselves. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/62560-windows-mail-problems.html.

Anyway, please tell me what is wrong and where it goes wrong that I can see if I can find the cause.  It may be that you need to do the initial export on your hard drive and then move this folder on the external drive - I'm not sure (in which case it is where you are running problems).

I have lookk forward to your response.

My computer C drive is currently using 141 GB of space.  My external hard drive TB free 2.29 a.  I don't know what or why he wants me to delete.  Help?

    Hello

To identify the problem, try emptying the trash from the PC and the external hard drive. In addition, check the type of files you want to back up. Make sure that the file format is supported by your external hard drive. It would be better to list the model of your external hard drive to your answer.

    We will wait for her.

It is a very useful device to have some kicking around when you need to get data on a drive that does more boot.

You must get permission to access folders on the old disk to the new computer and this is how you do it.

Download the zip on the site below...

When you run the zip file, it places a new item in the right click menu called 'Take Ownership'

To use it, you highlight the file or the folder on which you want the property, right click and select take ownership.

Then a window will appear and many data authorizations through pretty quickly. When permissions have been granted, the window will close and you will be able to easily access data in the file or the first selected folder...

  • Impossible to change the location of backup to external hard drive

    * Original title: backup location

I need to change the location of backup on an external hard drive (I).  When I go into Control Panel, backup and support, it seems that the location is currently (D).  To change this, I select 'change settings '.  Then, the computer opens a new window for "Set up Backup" and begins to launch.  However, whenever I try to do the answer comes back that the computer is unable to start the program because of the error (0 x 80080005) of running the server.  I don't know what to do from here.  Can anyone offer any guidance?  Thank you.

    Hi Janis,

The probable cause of this problem could arise from the security of the software interrupt services to change backup settings.

I suggest you follow the methods below and check if it helps:

Method 1: Temporarily disable the antivirus on the computer running software and check if you are able to change the backup location.
Reference: turn off the antivirus software

Warning: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

If Mode 1 has not resolved the issue try MOde 2 which follows below:

Method 2: Put the computer in a clean boot state, and then try to change the location of backup on your external hard drive again:

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Note: After troubleshooting, see the section «How to reset the computer to start normally after a boot minimum troubleshooting»

  • Backup on external hard drive .dng files

I bought an external hard drive Western Digital My Book Essential strongly recommended to backup image files, and then it was discovered that the WD software does not support the .dng files.  Is it possible to move files from .dng WD software and backup on the external drive WD?  I use PS CS5.1, version 12.1 x 32 on a PC running Windows XP professional.

The backup software should allow you to select all files, instead of a filtered list. But having said that, if she did not, then you could easily just use windows Explorer and drag the files yourself. Using a backup drive software is just for convience to make it easier on the owner for the backup files. It is not necessary to access the drive. As I said, you can use windows Explorer, or you could use the backup software provided with windows and let a backup completes, if the drive is big enough. So, you have options.

  • Backup to external hard drive on iCloud > > used internal hard disk space

Is there a way to backup disks external hard on iCloud without iCloud with disk space hard internal iMac?

I tried an external hard drive to backup to iCloud and although it does not copy in iCloud. It also eliminates the same amount of available space on the hard drive of my iMac.

Does this mean that iCloud only backs up files on an internal drive so it copies them from external drives to the internal main? Is this a problem external disk hard/iCloud? Is it possible to set this up properly?

The files are logical X. This could be a logic X / question iCloud? I know the hype for iCloud said any file, but no logic X icon in the system preferences iCloud box. Set to true any file ?

Thanks for any information you have.

Data in iCloud cannot synchronize from an external hard drive.

iCloud does not synchronize data from logic X.
