  Installed Win8 pro (upgrade to win7 x 64) a few days before and set up the Mail app to work with all my email accounts. I receive emails OK but sending does not work - they end just the Outbox and then nothing happens.

  This doesn't seem to be a problem of parameters - I use the same settings as in my Outlook 2010 client and I chatted with hosting support (they confirmed my settings, each of them). However, I noticed that when manually "sync" I got error messages saying temporary get accounts are 'not available' (top right). This is true for my POP3/IMAP accounts as well as the outlook.com account. May be a temporary problem, however, since I have no problem receiving e-mails.

  I have figured out the problem myself. It was Avast! AntiVirus' Mail Shield that was keeping the app from connecting. Even adding the SSL exclusions to the list didn't work - I had to disable the Mail Shield entirely.
