Windows 8 must be installed on the SSD?

I have an inspiron 7520 with a 32 GB SSD and 1 TB HD. It came with 8 pre-installed Win. I bought it from newegg, renovated a few months back.

I got the impression that the big advantage of SSDS is their very low latency. It makes sense to have the operating system and frequently used programs on the SSD and use the HARD drive for storage. However, as far as I know, the SSD is empty (Windows is considered a 29.8GiB disc with 29.7 GB free) and the operating system came pre-installed on the 1 TB drive.

(1) I'm good to have the OS and main programs installed on the SSD would accelerate the launch of program time? (The laptop works pretty well, but opening programs is quite slow)

(2) I don't have any media installation; can I use backup tools provided by Dell to make a disk to reinstall Win8 on another drive, or am I limited to just restore the original with Win8 on HARD drive configuration?

(In a perfect world I would like wiping Win8 for a new installation of 7 and avoiding all this, but I don't have the budget for a new Windows license right now.) Hum Ho.)

Thank you!

Maybe that newegg does not install correctly with the proper functioning of SATA or implement caching.

As mentioned an SSD of 32 GB, 64 GB should serve as a cache drive only. Although you can press the OS on 64 GB one its pretty difficult.

If its 128 GB or greater, it is fine to install the OS on. As you said that you don't have the money to buy a new OS, probably you don't want to upgrade the SSD earlier.

Before changing the settings on your computer, make sure that you made the data using Dell backup and restore. Review the following videos and do a restore USB:

If Windows 8 was installed manually from Newegg you may be unable to make a backup of recovery and need to get it from Dell. Reference Dell have a new form for applications for the operating system support for in warranty systems AMERICANS here even if the form is translated into several languages I automated sending of media is available only in the United States at the present time and you must call the Support Technology Guide for other regions.

Once you have made or purchased from Dell recovery media, you will need to check your system SATA operation. To do this, you will need to look at the configuration of the BIOS, the power down of your system and return upward and press F2 immediately on the screen of the Dell BIOS. The SATA hard disk operation must be defined for a quick response, Intel and not AHCI or ATA. I suspect it's on AHCI (that you can see the SSD in Windows Explorer).

To set up a rapid response on the Intel SSD, you will need to change the SATA Intel Rapid Response operation. The change SATA operation will make the system unbootable more however. This is why I have proposed to you the recovery media. Essentially if change you the SATA operation, you need to reinstall the operating system. You can also watch my / a reinstallation of Windows Unofficial Guideclean install of Windows 8, which will give you instructions to perform a manual installation.

Once the operating system is reinstalled with the correct operation of the SATA, you can see Dell-Intel sensitive technology and Setup smart Configuration of the answer on page 6. This should hide the SSD in Windows Explorer, but it will be used as a disk cache speeds up the overall performance of your system.

  • Vista security question: my Windows Firewall must be on? The McAfee Firewall is enabled

I have Vista Home Premium. I got to enter the Dell support center. "I think this is the first time that I did. It showed that I have Windows Defender on, but not the Windows Firewall and it does not show that I have McAfee Sequrity Version 9.15. My question is #1. My Windows Firewall must be on? The McAfee Firewall is enabled. #2 Why do the McAfee security information appear in the General Info tab or the Security tab I'm sorry if this is such a fundamental issue that I know enough about computers to be dangerous.

Thanks for any help in advance.

I don't know why McAfee is not in the Security Center.

I can only answer to your question n ° 1... to omit the Windows Firewall. McAffe has its own firewall. If you expand the firewall section of the Security Center, you can see this note:

  • I have a PC with windows 7 Home Premium installed. The PC is faulty and cannot be resolved. Can I reinstall the same Windows 7 to a new computer without additional cost?

I have a PC with windows 7 Home Premium installed. The PC is faulty and cannot be resolved. Can I reinstall the same Windows 7 to a new computer without additional cost? If yes how can I do this? Some people reported issues license keys and it cannot be registered once in a PC.

    Thank you

It is the major limitation of the OEM software that it can be installed on a PC. The COA label will confirm whether the license is OEM. A number of elements can be replaced in a PC in the way of repair, but only if exactly the same model of Council can this be exchanged.

Even if you transfer the drive to the new PC would not authenticate because of the change of equipment, and it would be unlikely to to re-authenticate online.

If the label is not OEM and you have a retail package, so it can be transferred.

  • Reinstalling windows 7 ultimate retail after changing the SSD, the motherboard and the processor. I'm having a problem with the reactivation?

I'll upgrade my desktop PC, by changing the motherboard, processor and SSD drive with the OS on it to boot. I have a problem with the reactivation of windows, and should I turn it off, somehow first, or the previous version will be considered as-enabled automatically? It is a retail, windows 7 64 ultimate version. Please advise, thanks in advance.

    Just reactivate by phone:

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    (2) press the ENTER"" key.

    (3) select your "country" in the list.

    (4) choose the option "activate phone".

    (5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

    (6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/950929/en-us

Remember, if it is a retail upgrade license:

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

You can skip to enter the product key and try the activation of the phone to work around this problem.

  • How to activate the Internet connection on Windows Server 2003 is installed in the virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8?

I have Windows Server 2003 is installed on a virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8. I need it to learn and practice the use of the Active Directory. I've also set up 3 Windows XP workstations connect to it, which means that they can communicate with Server 2003. What is lacking is the Internet connection on all of them. When I run ping 8.8.8.8 in one of these virtual machines, I get, 'Destination host unreachable.'

I'm not sure, what if the problem comes from the settings in Windows or the settings of the virtual machine.

    Can someone help me?

Thank you, guys. I was finally able to put in place. It was quite an ordeal to deal with IP addresses and virtual networks. Here's how I did (in the screenshots) in case someone else needs it.

(I also confess that it is perhaps one of the ways to implement. Maybe there is an easier way to do it with DHCP...)

    1. in your computer where is installed VMware Workstation 8 begin the "Virtual Network Editor." It is located in the folder of installation of VMware Workstation. And implement the network following (VMnet2 in my case):

2 then in VMware Workstation itself in the virtual machine when Windows Server 2003 is installed set up two network as connections:

This one is for external access to the Internet:

And this one for intranet communications AD:

    3. then in the machine virtual de Windows Server 2003 set up what follows for two network adapters:

    For Internet access:

Then, you need allow this connection to share:

And then for the ad access to workstations (ensure that the static IP address is in the range specified in the virtual network over VMnet2 network editor). I've also set up DNS to 127.0.0.1 because I installed on this Windows 2003 DNS server:

    4. from the Windows 2003 VM try ping 8.8.8.8. It should work now.

    5. go to each workstation, in my case, Windows XP, each in its own virtual machine and set up the network in the VMware Workstation as follows:

    6. then in the virtual machine, configure the network connection for Windows XP workstation. Don't forget to assign a new static IP address for each workstation, which not coinside with IP of the domain (this IP address must come from the range specified in the virtual network over VMnet2 network editor):

    7. try first ping the domain, in my case ping 192.168.237.128. And then Internet, ping 8.8.8.8. The two should work!

    Continue with steps [5-7].

  • If an application includes references ActiveX from Excel, MS Office must be installed on the PC to run?

There are a lot of discussions about the use of MS office with LV, but I wasn't able to find the answer to the next question. I hope someone can help or point me to a good thread.

I have an excel template file and want to create reports every time him. There are a few solutions to this problem, which are very good. But, in the end, I'm going to build an application and install it on an industrial PC which doesn't have MS office installed. The question is whether the application runs on the target computer as well.

I am specifically geared towards the solution here that uses ActiveX reference to Excel._Application. Target no chance that this solution or any similar work on my computer?

If you're wondering why I want Excel reports on a computer that does not have MS Office, I must say that the reports are simply stored somewhere on the disk to be transferred later to the seat say!

Development of machine: Win7, LV8.6 Pro + report generation toolkit

Target machine: WinXP SP3, engine of execution of LV

    Thanks in advance!

You must have Office installed on the computer that is running the LabVIEW application. It's the Office applications that provide the ActiveX functionality in the report generation tool. Without them, LabVIEW has nothing to interface to.

You can't say the product key.  If you use an Installation of Vista genuine disc it will install its own version to know the product key when you are prompted to enter (all versions of the same size of the bit are included on the authentic disc).
