Windows 8 start problem, due to an accidental installation of Windows XP on another partition

I had Windows 8 Pro on one partition and Windows XP SP3 on another partition for some time and I could choose which start. I decided to remove Win XP and format the partition on that Win XP has been installed. I tried to do it by using formatting option Win XP CD that appears before installation; However, I accidentally installed Win XP on the same partition. The problem is that my laptop is no longer recognizes Win 8 and begins on Win XP. I was wondering if by any chance I could collect Win 8?

Furthermore, the Win 8 partition is installed, is intact and healthy with all the files inside Windows. Also, I tried to update or reset the installation of Win 8 to help to win 8 DVD, however, it did not work; as a message appears saying that the drive is locked.

I thank very you much for your time.

Impatience on your part.

Amir

Hey Amir,

It seems that the boot loader is damaged. You need to install the earlier operating system first, and then install the latest operating system. If you do not have (for example, if you install Windows XP on a computer that is already running Windows 8), you can make your system unusable. This can happen because earlier versions of Windows do not recognize the startup files used in more recent versions of Windows and can overwrite them.

As you have reinstalled Windows XP on a computer running Windows 8, it has destroyed the boot loader.

Follow these steps.

We need to rebuild the Boot Configuration data (BCD). For this we need an installation of Windows 8 media.  If you do not have an installation, you can create a.

Refer to this article.

Note: You will need to consult the computer manual on how to set the CD/DVD drive as the first boot device in the BIOS.

b. Once you start using the installation disk of Windows, on the installation of Windows 8 window, click on repair your computer.

c. click Troubleshooting and Advanced options.
d. Select command prompt. Type the following commands in the command prompt and press ENTER after each command.

Bootrec /fixmbr
Bootrec /fixboot
Bootrec /scanos
Bootrec /rebuildbcd

Once the order is complete, restart the computer.

  • Windows 7 computer said that the DWM.exe could start not due the windowscodecs.dll file is missing.

    Original title: Windowscodecs.dll missing

IM using a windows machine 7 and one day, he said that the DWM.exe could start not due the windowscodecs.dll file is missing.

I don't have to go back, any system restore points

I ran the/scannow sf in command prompt and it says that the file is corrupted.

I tried to put the machine in safe mode,

I tried troubleshooting and software update

and I tried to download external software to replace the file.

It also affects the Aero theme, so my background is just a black screen!

What else can I try that actually work?

Why we just know it is a virtual machine?  Well...

Have you looked on your system here to check that the file is actually missing (of course that mine has been replaced):

I downloaded a file called on my OneDrive:

    64bitcodecs.dll (64-bit version)

The link to my a drive is:

    https://onedrive.live.com/?ID=EC673DF6F8DFEE84%212368&CID=EC673DF6F8DFEE84

You must visit my OneDrive, upload this file to a place, you can find, rename it to WindowsCodecs.dll and then copy and paste in your c:\windows\system32 folder (assuming that Windows is installed on your C drive).

When you have done so, check again with Explorer that the file is really there (if it was missing before) and if everything looks good, reboot your system and see what things look like.

  • Satellite L - starting problem

I used my new Toshiba laptop about 6 months ago - no prpblems. These last days I have starting problems. I turn it on and Toshiba logo appears on the screen, and Windows does not start. Toshiba Logo remains on as frozen screen and laptop keyboard does not respond. I turn it back on works and that's okay - wimdows starts normally. Startup Repair does not detect any problems.

    What can be?

    Hi oktay,.

What model of laptop you have exactly? I can t find this information in your ad.

If the laptop hangs on the Toshiba logo, it has nothing to do with Windows and it s hardware related issue.
Have you connected external devices? If Yes, remove them all and try to boot up your laptop.

    Hi EddieBryan,

    1. did you of recent changes on the computer?

    2. do you have security software installed on the computer?

    3. when exactly you receive the error message?

    Method 1
Check if the problem persists in safe mode and after return with the result.

    Method 2
If the problem does not persist in safe mode, then it is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.
I suggest that you configure the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.
To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Reset the computer to start as usual
When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    2. type msconfig , then click OK.
The System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.
    3. click on the general tab, click Normal Startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.
    4. When prompted, click on restart to restart the computer.

    Method 3

If the previous step fails then I suggest that scan you SFC on the computer that will search the corrupted system files and try to correct them.

The analysis may take some time, so be patient. Windows allows to fix corrupt or missing files it finds. If the information of the installation CD is required to fix the problem, you may be asked to insert your Windows XP installation CD.

  • Win 7 intermittent starting problems

My wife birhtday, I bought a new desktop PC 500-281 HP Pavillion through Win 7 clips in July of 2014. Intermittently the machine hangs at startup. When I shut off and restart, usually the screen asking if I want to start windows normally or start the Startup Repair utility. Should I choose one of these options and the machine works very well, sometimes I can shoose an option and the machine hangs again. Startup Repair shows no problem. When I'm on Windows I ran antivirus (AVG, McAfee, bitsMalware IO) analyses all upward with no problem. The machine is connected to ethernet (not wireless) a of the USB connections and: mouse, keyboard, external hard drive WD, printer Canon, Logitech webcam. All of this worked well on the old box. I have checked/updated all the drivers for external and all devices are updated. I checked the BIOS and Windows Connection Manager is the first start. This is a report of start-gel 60/40 at the moment and it happened that the staples of 14 days return policy. Any advice? My wife is extremely frustrated! (as a result so I am!)

    Hi Bob,

I would test equipment (systems and components) to restarting your PC and pressing "ESC". A defective material is usually behind on a new PC erratic behavior. Despite a software driver problem which is very unlikely, component, causing this type of symptom can be the power supply. This point of failure (power) is not detected using HP diagnostics. If material tests pass and this isn't a software driver problem, through the process of elimination, it can be the power supply.

In the start menu select F2 and run diagnostics.

If all tests pass, try to use the PC with HP supplied only devices (mouse, keyboard, and Ethernet connection) to see if the system stabilizes.

Let me know how it goes. We can try additional troubleshooting if the advice above does not help.

Finally, you need to maybe to back up important data and do a factory restore. Then, run the system without installing any additional software and only HP devices connected.

Always start problems? Now is the time to contact the HP Support.

I have a Mac Pro Tower, that will not start the first time I press the power button, the machine "lights up" in a way that the light in front comes on and I hear a click, however the fans and readers do not engage and the screen is blank. I am then forced to hold down the power button until it stops and hit the power key once again, and each time on the second time it starts. Now I use this equal parts of Mac on the Mac partition and equal parts as a PC, this problem appears when I start in two, but I put in this detail to explain another thing, I have a PC graphics card in the computer. I have all his own CUDA Driver Version that allows me to do it on the mac, but it might have something to do with it. Even if the problem persists when I have my Mac AFI graphics card in the computer as well. I also want to add some other details, nor the mac from the PC partition can go in "standby mode" or the computer goes back to be a brick with just the front light on. (Sometimes the LED keyboard works, and sometimes is not after the mode 'sleep'). In addition, if I restart the computer, it starts well the first time, as well as when I move from mac to PC partition. I tried to do resets of LANDAU and SMC and that has not worked, someone at - it ideas?

Thanks guys for any input you may have.

The next time that you touch inside, try to carefully remove the 3 v button cell half hidden behind the graphics card and check the required 3 Volts. If less, a new is needed. You can also use CR2032, which is used for the remote control-door garage and car-door-key original is BR2032.

When I try to send an email to MYOB I get error message saying: "an email session could not be started. Please check your MAPI installation '.

How can I solve this problem?

    Hi all

I have a workaround which is a little less boring that the patch "restart the PC": If you get the error where MYOB crashes when you try to send an e-mail, open Task Manager (ctrl-alt-del or right click on the start bar), then go to the "Processes" tab and close all instances of wlmail.exe using the button "complete the process".

It seems that this error occurs if you have Windows Live Mail opened when you try and send emails of MYOB. If you then close WLMail after that get the error the process seems to never close, so you have to close it manually. If you send all your emails with closed WLMail MYOB it seems to be OK.

    See you soon
