Windows Call Center in Los Angeles called saying computer is infected

Received a call from the Service Windows in the call back # 213-222-3568 saying computer has been infected. Indian or other foreign-sounding gentleman, insisted that I give him access to the computer. The call began to falter with many high sounds in the background, could barely hear. I asked a number of reminder and provided it.

My daughter (14) does not give them access, what do I do now?  I have updated firewall and Virus (so they are off).  All I can understand is they asked a credit card - she says no--he recalled.  I did not give them anything, but fear that my information is now 'out there' - HELP

Change all of your passwords.  Online and offline.

Contact all your financial institutions (Bank, credit cards, credit bureaus and tastes) and let them know that you may have been scammed, to check with you for transactions, etc..

I would suggest reset your computer to factory and restore a backup of your data settings.

  • Windows Media Center Guide does not correct list shows

I use a Vista Home Premium, the other day I reformatted my computer because I had problems with it. everything went well and media center opens and works very well. However, it used correctly list indicated in the guide, no matter what I do, and it worked properly before the reformat. The channels are listed correctly, if TBS is supposed to be on channel 2, according to the guide, is, therefore, when I go to channel 2 I am indeed on TBS station, BUT even if the show is listed as 'Home' in the guide, which is in read mode is like Sienfeld or some other show. Even when I record programs when it starts recording it will tell me 'Reecording House' and when you go to channel his record some other show is apparently on at that time.

I tried completely relative to the implementation of the centre, tried to re-do ads guide by using 3 or 4 different postcodes, tried to look in my BIOS to see if my system clock is off, I tried looking for an updated driver but can't find the Media Center or don't know what it's called , and nothing has worked so far.

What is the problem with my Media Center? Is an off clock that actually play the shows at the wrong time? I've been home 3 days now so please if you know EXACTLY what is wrong just to give me a bunch of things to try, and I'll try them

    Thank you

    Hi eps3742,

This can happen if the media center guide downloads information guide incorrect.
I suggest that you try to re installation guide and download the guide for registration again and check if it works.

To set up the Guide listings

To find your favorite programs more easily, you can configure your Guide lists to match your local service provider's guide listings.
    1. on the Start screen, navigate to tasks, click settings, click TV, click Guide, and then click Set Up Guide ads.
    2. follow the instructions on the screen to configure the list of Guide for your region.

If you are prompted to select a TV provider and you do not know which one to select, control a recent draft Bill or statement from your TV service provider to find the appropriate information.

The providers listed in Windows Media Center vary according to the Postal Code or ZIP. If the supplier subscribe is not listed for the ZIP or the Postal Code entered, try entering local codes find the appropriate Guide listings.

Check out the link for more information below.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/set-up-Guide-listings-for-use-in-Windows-Media-Center

I would also say that you check if the time zone in windows is set correctly.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/set-the-clock

If the previous step fails, then try to download the cumulative update of the Center media of the KB article below and check.

  • Vista / windows media center / missing mouse pointer

Hi I recently bought vista Home premium v6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3 and have all the updates.

    I have 2 similar problems.
When I start windows media center I lose the mouse pointer and if I use alt - tab returns in other running programs such as office. so it seems only to be windows media center problem.
to exit the program I have to ctrl-alt-del and use taskmanger to complete the process, but even if it works sometimes.

I get a similar problem with other programs, especially when loading software.
It was not to display the error on the top window or place an item in the taskbar.

and I don't get to see if I minimize all other windows.

It's on a laptop Acer 1810 entered t oem installed with vista home premium.

    radar888,
The first thing you posted in the category Windows Update, but I moved this forum hardware and drivers.

However, in safe mode, your computer starts with generic basic hardware drivers.  That's why it will give an error that your video card is not good enough for Media Center.  The fact that the mouse works properly in safe mode indicates that you have a driver problem.  I would update ALL your hardware drivers (video, sound, NETWORK, touchpad, etc...).  Then test the position of the mouse.  You can check with the Acer site for drivers.  You can check with the hardware manufacturer for the latest drivers for your video card.

  • Wireless does not connect. Possible culprit Windows Mobility Center.

I lost the signal on my laptop after I opened and had no connection available. Reader is up-to-date and that windows is unable to detect a problem. It runs at max power. So, I check the Windows Mobility Center. That is to say wireless is disabled. So it is not available for me to click on the button to turn it on. Why not? Select the card off and reactive then about five minutes later without success. any suggestions?

    Much appreciated,

On most laptops, wireless radio is a separate switch or a combination of "Fn" keys to enable or disable.  Consult the user manual of your laptop to see which control the wireless radio and make sure his tours on.

  • Take control of Windows Media Center

I have a Pavilion P6000 series model p6700z tour running Windows 7.  I don't know what I did but now Windows Media Center took over all programs on the computer.  When I start the computer it opens in Windows Media Center, if I click on one that Windows Media Center opens and not the program.  I tried to do a system restore, and which opens again is the Windows Media Center. It's all the computer don't then stay on media center to Windows. Antivirus programs are Windows Media Center also.  All icons on the desktop are icons of Windows Media Center.  Can someone please instruct me on how to get my computer back to normal.  I have no backup discs and have not all the disks for the software that came with the computer.  I bought the HP computer online, but no records have been included.  I can't read my email so I have to find a way to pass messages.  Please help me!  I hope that's all the information you need.  Thank you for your time.

  • What do you do when everty time you access something need you for windows media center

It started with microsoft. Whenever I tried to access my Microsoft pages it took me to windows media center. Now, everything is in the Center. The only way I can get online is through a back door. I tried to change the default values for the Center, but the only default parameters listed are the original ones.
Windows Media Center has taken control of my computer. Help!

From what you have stated above, I think that the file association for LNK files has been given misdirection to the Media Center. I've seen this happen when opening a program via a shortcut (for example. LNK file), you are asked what type of program to open it with. After selecting the Windows Media Center (or another program) via the Select a program from a list of programs installedand check always use the selected program to open this type of file (circled in red below), the document or program referenced by the shortcut of origin opens in Windows Media Center as it should.

The problem is that now all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) on the desktop or in the browser will want to be opened by Windows Media Center and Windows Media Center icon to view the shortcut no matter what shortcut was originally intentioned to open. This is known as a file association and the default icon. The same condition can occur if you have performed these actions 'Open with' on one. JPG or even a. EXE, but the. LNK explanation is much more likely for the items on the desktop.

The good news is that a small free utility was written to cancel the. LNK file association was created. There is also a registry hack to achieve, but I recommend the utility unAssoc for its ease of use. I used to send people on another site to download this utility, but this site has become confused with all the ads and fake download links. I put a copy on by SkyDrive own here.

Just download, then use the utility to unassociate the. LNK files for the user or globally delete the file type and let windows rebuild a new default.

  • Windows Media Center 7 (64-bit) falls down for TV Set Up

We have recently installed a Ceton Infinitv Quad Tuner (and the latest updates and SW) for our Windows 7 Ultimate PC.  I followed previous forum advice and started the PC to the selective startup to isolate third-party issues, run the .net framework Cleanup tool, reinstalled the components needed .net framework (1.0, 1.1, 3.5, 3.5 SP1 and 4.0) and disabled MC Update.  None of them have worked.

I get to the settings--> TV and Media Center menu crashes or TV---> Set Up TV Signal and Media Center crashes with a message 'Media Center' stopped working.  Other than this issue Media Center works very well.

Any suggestions for how to deal with this?

    Hello

You can try the following steps and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

Try to uninstall and reinstall Windows Media Center:

    Step 1:

    Uninstall Windows Media center:

    a. go to start and in the search type 'Turn Windows has or not'.

    b. click on "Turn Windows features on or off".

    c. find multimedia and uncheck the brand in the face of Windows Media center.

    d. restart the computer

    Step 2:

    Reinstall Windows Media center:

    a. go to start and in the search type 'Turn Windows has or not'.

    b. click on "Turn Windows features on or off".

    c. find the multimedia functions and place a check mark in front of Windows Media center.

    d. restart the computer.

    Check out the link:

Turn on or off Windows features

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/turn-Windows-features-on-or-off

    Method 2:

Also try to update driver BIOS and graphics card to the latest version. You can check the manufacturer's Web site to do the same.

Make sure you have the latest updates of Windows installed.

You can also check if you get an error in Event Viewer about what is causing the problem.

  • Windows Media Center is Gone

I have Windows Vista Ultimate and somehow windows media center has been deleted on my computer.  Is there anyway I can get windows media center or download without having to use my backup disks?

There is also a fairly simple thing to check (and create a new user profile will not fix that):
    Media Center is activated?
Open default programs (just type in the start menu), then click on "set program access and computer by default."
Expand "Custom" and make sure that Windows Media Center is both (in the "choose a default media player" section), and the "Enable access to this program" box is checked.
If it is there (but not checked), check the box and click OK.
If it is there (and checked), uncheck the box, OK out, reboot.  Go back and box.  Work now?  (this step is rare to need to do, in my experience).
If she is not there to be checked, post back with that info.

  • WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER - WINDOWS 7 - COMPUTER CRASHES

Whenever I turn on windows media center to watch live TV, after about 10 minutes of watching TV, my computer crashes / turns off.  I have to hold in the power button for a while turns back on after that is the case of the computer. I get no error message, it's just completely off / hangs the computer.

    Dell Inspiron Intel Core duo

    Windows 7 Home premium

I got so sick of this, I spent the last few hours trying all sorts of things.

This seems to have solved that problem.

First of all, I went to my monitor of resources because of the above message on the video memory. I have never in line or running anything while I watched the live TV on windows media center. As I thought, everything was fine. I had a lot of resources free etc, but while watching I noticed my McAfee security software and decided to disable real-time scanning and firewall. (I never try to watch live TV on windows media center all in line.) I always turn off my network card when I'm not online anyway so felt ok with turning the firewall and scanning off.)

And guess what! for the first time since I use Windows Media Center, it has not crashed my computer. So, it looks like Microsoft and McAfee need to understand this. I tested it several times and each time McAfee is on and working when turned off, it blocks. It will be a headache to have to remember to turn it on when I go online and off when I want to watch the tv media Center in windows.

I suggest to have the people to do this step first before making do them all the steps you gave me above.  We hope to see some sort of update of Microsoft and McAfee for this question.
