Windows Vista. Update error Code 80072EFE
I'm so sick of Vista, error code constant update and cant update since April 2010, windows Defender won't update, installed a service pack manually, but I can't get the security updates, get error 80072EFE code, very frustrated at this point, all scanned and it's showing no malaware , or virus or anything, so he doesn't let me access my desktop unless I'm scanning the c drive for errors first (2 or more hours to scan) Oh so many questions, I could try windows 7. At my wits end with Vista premium 32 bit... Thanks if you can help... frustrated!
Hello
I've seen this error quite often.
Error 80072EFE is related to the update server closing the connection.
Mosty likely, the computer can be infected by ROOTKITS.
Try TDSSKILLER to find rootkits.
Download and run from here
http://support.Kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/TDSSKiller.exe
Then try to update Security Essentials

Check your time zone and time are correct.
Search for malware:
Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:
Remove anything they find. Reboot when necessary. (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)
Search online with eSet Online Scanner.
Reset.
Now reset your Windows with this FixIt components update:
How to reset the Windows Update components?Reset.
Try to get updates.
If it still does not work, try this...
- Start an elevated command prompt.
- Run the following commands pressing on enter after each line:
net stop wuauserv
CD %SystemRoot%\System32
Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
net start wuauserv - Reset
- Try to reinstall updates
* Important * When you do this, the following problems occur:
- Updates that are currently downloaded but which have not yet been installed must be downloaded again by using Windows Update or Microsoft Update.
- When you remove the Software Distribution folder, your download history is deleted.
- If you currently receive updates from Microsoft Update and Windows Update, you will need to reselect this option from the Windows Update Web site.
* Note * if the problem is resolved and you can successfully download and install the updates, you can delete the directory SoftwareDistribution.old to recover disk space. -
