Windows Defender. failed to initialize 0x800106ba
a problem caused the stop of the programme service. How to start this service?
This problem can occur because another security application is used or the Windows Defender service has stopped, or components of Windows Defender are corrupt.
You install any new programs recently? Windows Defender is not designed to protect against the extent of malware. If programs like Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender both run, your system may experience degradation in performance and other problems caused by the conflict of two services providing real-time protection at the same time. I recommend that you keep the Defender off if another application of security protection is running.
If no similar security application is installed, I suggest that we have follow these steps to resolve the problem:
Step 1: Check the Windows Defender service
=================================
1. click on start, in the search box, type: "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
2. double-click on the service "Windows Defender".
3. click on the 'general' tab. Make sure the "Startup Type" is "automatic". Then please click on "Start" under "Status of Service" to start the service.
If the problem is not resolved, please refer to step 2:
Step 2: Save the associated DLL files
========================
1. click on start, type "cmd" (without the quotes) in the box start the search. Right click on CMD listed above and click 'run as administrator '.
2. in the command prompt, type the following and press ENTER to each order:
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 mssip32.dll
3. close the command prompt, and then run Windows Defender.

I got an error 0x800106ba #. for windows defender, I had this problem after upgrading my computer.
Thank you.Hi torobull,
Looks like you may have a virus.
If a virus infects a computer, it often blocks the ability of the computer to run antivirus programs or causes these ineffective programs. Follow these steps to control and eradicate any viruses:
1. If you do not have an installed antivirus program, you can use the Windows Live safety scanner, or install an another antivirus scanner. You will need to do this before you follow the next step.
2. Restart your computer in safe mode. For more information, see start your computer in safe mode .
3. Scan your computer for viruses. Go online and read Live OneCare Safety Scanner"" href = "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=143630" > how to install the free Windows Live OneCare Safety Scanner
For more information.
Notes - Scanning your computer can take time, and your computer may appear to be frozen or inactive. Allow scanning completed successfully before you continue.
- Each antivirus program scans and removes viruses differently. Review of your anti-virus help or documentation for specific instructions.
4.
Once you've scanned and removed any viruses, restart your computer.
To restart services required by Windows Update You must be logged on as administrator to perform these steps.
1. Open administrative tools by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking Administrative Tools.

5. Click the connection tab and make sure that the service is enabled in every hardware profile listed.
6. Click the general tab, click Start, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
7. In the Services window, double-click Windows event log.
8. Under the tab general , next to Startup type, make sure that Automatic is selected.
9. Next to Service status, check whether the service is started. If not, click Start, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Security Center service is missing & Defender fails to initialize
Using Vista Home Premium SP2 on Dell XPS, updated for XP. Dual CPU * address email is removed from the privacy * 2.39 GHz with 2 GB of RAM on 32-bit operating system.
Recently had problem with the virus causing the search be redirected - was intermittent but became constant. The forums installed mbam check what issue offset with looks. Using McAfee who had not detected a problem - was removed it and now using N360v5 instead. Disabled caveats re Security Center McAfee then wanted to restore to see if N360 should be picked up. Now noticed,
Windows Defender error: "failed to initialize: 0 x 80070006.» The handle is not valid. »
Open Security Center and trying to turn, error: "could not start the Security Center service.Don't know how long these questions were present on my system.
Have you checked the services and Security Center is not in the list, nothing for the Defender.
Have other similar topics within the forum, you tried the following:
Have done sfc/scannow and no noted problem
WinMgmt /verifyrepository did and is consistent
Tried to stop the WMI service, the removal of directory of repository and it allowing you to recreate & fill out the resume
Did the clean boot
Tried to download Windows Defender of re - install MS downloads - don't leave me as included in VistaOverall, there is no change to the mistakes, and I'm still unable to lift these two security apps and active.
Can anyone help - and what additional information would you require to be able to help.
