  I'm helping a friend transfer files from laptop running Windows XP 32 bit on a desktop running Windows 8 64-bit PC.  I want to be sure easy transfer will work.

  The use of a USB stick to transfer files works if you have only a few gigabytes of Documents, pictures, music and videos. Assuming that the old computer supports usb 2.0 (if it is longer than 5 years, she probably only support usb 1.0) over a network connection 100 Mbps local, there is no contest, the connection to the local network is much faster.   You can use Knoppixhttp://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html with a good ISO as Copier: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm as well as a blank CD (made on a different computer).  This should give you sufficient access to the Vista system 'dead' (if you can not get in any other way) backup/transfer your important data (like everything else you mentioned) to the one you use (an external hard drive, flash player,...). You will not be able to save your settings or your programs because they require the enforcement system to use easy transfer and regular functions copy and paste will do the trick. If Knoppix doesn't work, try slaving the hard drive to another computer, and then after the data you want to save it.

  Caused by a virus (c), I created a partition on my laptop & then installed windows on the new partition (D),

  The problem I have is I didn't have 25 gig space to create this partition (D) & after the installation of windows etc, I have very little space left (of course I wanted to

  (C) data on an external hard disk, shrink (c), extend (D) then transfer my data to (D) external hard drive then & then delete (C).
  I have now taken some of the data off the drive (35 GB of data) (C) (which I transferred in external hard drive), I am now wanting to shrink (C) 35 GB so I can extend (D) by 35 concert to then transfer data back from external hard drive) to (D) for a reason that my laptop will not let me shrink/expand (C) (D)

  There are probably a few files on the C: partition that are moveable / locked prevents you to shrink the C: drive. In addition you will need a third-party utility to expand the D: partition. Also if you delete the C: partition completely you can end up with an unbootable PC.

• Easy transfer does not matter the favourites and any settings and Outlook *.pst.

  I try to use Easy Transfer to migrate files and settings user from a Vista computer on a Windows 7 computer. I created the WET migration file (either 3 separate files on a USB key). When I launch and run WET is WET on the new computer, important files and settings. However, when it ends by providing the report, Outlook files are not transferred. Open Outlook gives an error message the *.pst file is not found and none of the e-mail settings are present. Also, IE favourites did not import and lack. I don't know that these points have been included in the migration from the old computer. Is it possible to open the migration files to search for *.pst and Favorites folder file to copy manually, or is there another way to integrate these Articles? I don't have the old computer longer to copy them directly from it are not an option. Thanks for any help.

  To do this, you must choose a single installation as the default and change the BCD in this one to include starting in the installation of other.

  Installing Win7 on the internal HARD disk is the best choice because he will always be there.

  Regarding your problem with Realtek (I think you mean a missing driver) you need to search the site of the factory.
  I doubt there are already drivers for Windows 7, but a look and good luck!

  I don't know if this is the right section, sorry for that. Feel free to move this thread in the appropriate section *.

  I think the size of partitions depends of the you want to use and install other software.
  So if you have a lot of software which runs under the Windows System I recommend to choose a larger size to win 8 partition.

  However, given that you have a 750 GB HARD drive, you could take 200GB for Win 8, 100 GB to Linux and the rest of the HARD drive size, that you can use for data.

• Windows Easy Transfer for Windows 7 has fatal error on XP system

  Transfer worked for anout an hour then the old computer updated automatically and restarted. During the reboot of "Windows Easy Transfer for ws 7" after the message to plug the easy transfer cable, a fatal error occurs and the program stops.

  Any suggions on how to start the top yet?  The new computer is looking for the connection.

• Problems with Windows Easy Transfer

  I tried several times to use file transfer for my old HP XP on my new HP Vista computer files.  First time I made "all user files" and stopped to transfer to half way and says that my D: drive is complete on the new Vista.  So, I made a start to recovery to factory settings and tried again.

  Second time I tried to transfer, I disabled the D: drive and tried to keep it short, not as many files.  He transferred what I asked for, but these files under a separate user.  And once again, flashing at me my D: drive is very low on space.

  I did another system of recovery, but it did not work.  D: drive is always full.  I do another system of recovery currently see.  I negligence has not set a restore point before you start.  Women for the India tech support was no help at all.

  What I am doing wrong?  Why Easy Transfer work "easily"?  I have so many games, movies, and music on my XP I can't copy on disk since I don't have a burner to work.  I'm not so concerned about the transfer of parameters like many music, although I hate to lose all my favorites in outlook express and web pages.

  XP and Seven is installed in dual-boot on my laptop and I use EasyBCD to choose which system I want to start.

  To start XP, I need to enable "Compatibility" (Controller SATA in BIOS mode) and seven is "AHCI" must be activated.

  Yes you can do it but I'm afraid, you must reinstall Windows XP Home edition m.
  Why? Because before beginning to install Windows XP Home edition, you must change it to AHCI mode, launch the installation of Windows XP Home edition and before you start you need to load the SATA driver (via F6 I think).

  I had to reformat my wife's computer.  It is a store brand AMD athlon 2500 with 2 GB of ram.  It came with a copy of XP Home recovery disk.  I wanted to create a second logical drive on the computer to store the data, but the recovery disc can not do this.

  Now I have a dual boot with XP Pro and XP Home, I want to keep I want to delete.  It appears after the MESSAGE that there is an option for home or similar to a GRUB menu Pro.

  I note in 'My Computer' C: WINDOWS and watch WINDOWS.0 I guess que.0 is the installation of Pro as it happened first.

  Any suggestions on how to remove the installation of Pro and leaving the House intact?

  If you have not used the computer since installing Home and Pro, the best thing to do is to reinstall the House.
