Windows Firewall is blocking my FTP?

I have problems of access to a Web site for File Transfer Protocol (FTP on my computer. It is a network that is used to transfer files from one host to another. I desperately need to use it for changes on my manual to send to my editor. It was working fine until about a month earlier, when all of a sudden I was getting a weird message when I logged in as if by chance, an icon for a Windows Firewall on my computer and I wonder if that is the cause of the problem. I have Norton anti-virus and everyone that I talked to said that I don't need the Windows Firewall. I hope that if I uninstall it, the problem will go away, but when I go to the list of programs in my computer it isn't here! (Isn't that weird?)

The message I get when I try to log into my FTP is a FTP root with the number.   Can anyone offer any suggestions for me?  Thank you!

Hello

Windows 7 all use them the "Application Layer Gateway Service" as an assistant to Active FTP connection. You must make sure that this service is started for Active FTP to work.

To start:

a. click the Windows Start button.

b. Type "services.msc" in the search bar, then press Enter (the Windows Services Panel will pop up).

c. scroll until you find the "Application Layer Gateway Service".

d. look at the "Status" column, it should say 'start '.

e. If not started, double-click on the name of the service to enter its Options Panel.

f. change the 'Statup Type' drop down to say "automatic".

g. click the button 'Start '.

h. click on 'apply '.

i. click "OK".

In addition, you cannot uninstall Windows Firewall because it is integrated with Windows 7. Only, you can disable the Windows Firewall.

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

Note: You should not turn off Windows Firewall unless you have another firewall enabled. Turning off Windows Firewall may make your computer (and your network, if you have one) more vulnerable to damage caused by worms or hackers.

Thank you to provide us with an opportunity to help Microsoft Community, we are happy to help you.

A firewall can help prevent hackers or malicious software (such as worms) to access your computer through a network or the Internet. A firewall can also help stop your computer from malware sent to other computers.

If you want to block all connections using the Windows Firewall, please follow the steps mentioned below.

    1. Open the start menu.
    2. In the search box, search for "Windows Firewall".
    3. In the search results, select "Firewall with Advanced Security Windows".
    4. In the 'Présentation' section, check to see which profile is active. By default, it should 'private profile '.
    5. Click on the link marked "Windows Firewall properties.
    6. Select the tab 'private profile '.
    7. Make sure that "Firewall State" is set to "on (recommended)."
    8. Under "Incoming connections" click the menu drop down and select "Block all connections."
    9. Under "Outbound connections" click the menu drop down and select "block".
    10. Next to "Protected network connections", click on the button "Customize".

  • Windows Firewall is blocking a program

For some reason, the windows firewall does not do what I wanted to do. I blocked a dozen other programs before you access internet with good success using WF... except for this program a... little matter how much I try to configure the firewall, it seems are starting to show more of bugs and defects... so I have this free software that still has access to the internet and displays this annoying window with a large number of ads... (it's not malware because I scanned with malwarebytes... nor do I have a virus because I have avira and windows defender, fully implemented to update and regularly scans my pc..) So I disabled the program in Windows firewall so that she would not access the internet... but after running that software I can still see a connection being "established" by using tcp view... then I went t advance settings to create a firewall to block the program directly... in and out... but after reboot and rule control tcp view... sound still there... the connection is still established and bytes are packets or bytes are sent and received... so I check the firewall... in the window 'allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall' and saw that the program was unchecked... when I see it advance option... it clearly says its governed blocked and the rule is enabled.  So I went back to the "allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall" and not the program but when I went back to the ahead option my blocking rule found himself distraught... Is it really normal for the Windows Firewall to act like that? Is this a bug that when I disable something in advance options in that it ends up getting enabled "allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall?

    Hello

-What is the name of the application that attempts to connect to the internet?

Looks like an adware to me, try the following steps:

    Completely remove the firewall:

To remove all files and registry entries related to the firewall on your computer, perform the following steps:

    (1) on Start > run type cmd and press enter to open the command prompt window.
    (2) in the command prompt window, run the following command:

    SC delete SharedAccess

Running this command removes all files and registry entries related to the firewall service on your computer and allows you to completely remove the firewall on your computer.

    Now to reinstall Windows Firewall:

Run one after another exactly the following commands at the command prompt.

    (1) rundll32 setupapi, InstallHinfSection Ndi-Steelhead 132 %windir%\inf\netrass.inf

    (2) netsh firewall reset

Check that all the firewall services are enabled.

Also try to run the virus scan using the Microsoft Safety Scanner, it will help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

  • on my desk: Windows Firewall has blocked some features of Firefox public and private networks? What does that mean?

I turned on my lap and a huge dialog box appears with the message above. I didn't know whether to 'Access' or 'Cancel' then just closed. Please explain.

Firefox 36 requires the Firefox Windows to create new access rules, and Windows asks if you really want to do this.

I do not think that these rules are necessary for the current version, but are designed to take account of the features provided in a future release, so you can cancel it just for the moment.

  • Why programs not marked in the list of windows firewall exceptions are still able to maintain the internet connection?

    Original title: exceptions to firewall

Can someone explain how I have after uncheck the programs in the list of windows firewall exceptions, they are still able to maintain an internet connection? I use XP sp3.

    1. what makes you think that this unnamed programs are still able to maintain an Internet connection?

2 Windows Firewall blocks unsolicited incoming connections.  Thus, for example, if you (or malicious software), set up a FTP server running on your computer, Windows Firewall will block an application from the Internet on your computer that are trying to establish a connection and download some of your files.

However, when your web browser sends a request to a Web site server to load a page, incoming web server traffic is allowed because it's in response to a request made on your computer.

This distinction between the incoming and outgoing traffic is why some people insist that the third-party firewall, which usually block/monitor of traffic in both directions is required.  The scenario is that you inadvertently introduce malware on your computer (in any number of ways), and then the malware "phones home" to establish a link with the bad guys, who continue to do what they want on your computer.

  • Rules of Windows Firewall: enabled v. not activated, leave c. block, when used in combination.

In the rules for inbound Windows Firewall, what is the difference between these 3 settings?

1, 'name': 'DHCP Server wireless PAN', 'Enabled': 'Yes', 'Action': 'Block '.
2, 'name': 'DHCP Server wireless PAN', 'Enabled': 'No', 'Action': 'allow '.
3, 'name': 'DHCP Server wireless PAN', 'Enabled': 'No', 'Action': 'Block '.

    Details.

This defines whether the server DHCP Wireless PAN can use 'Protocol Type': "All", through "Local port": "All Ports", "Remote port": "all the Ports '.

For which the firewall settings: will of 1 or 2 or 3, a Wireless PAN DHCP server (probably external) have access to my computer?

Help "Windows Firewall with advanced security:
'Enabled' == 'No': '... causes [firewall] to stop the comparison of the packets to the network rule', while 'The Action' == 'Block': blocks "... no matter what network packet that matches the firewall rule criteria".

For firewall settings of: 1, 2, or 3, access will be blocked?

It would be tempting to say, 'All', but this judgment doesn't jibe with what helps. Specifically, #2 & #3 are both ignored by the firewall because 'Enabled' == 'No': "... causes [firewall] to stop the comparison of the packets to the network rule. So the question is: since there is no 'Action' taken, the firewall will leave packages or it will block the?

In other words, what is the default Action?

    Thank you.

  • How can I open my Windows 7 just to use FTP firewall?

Phew! Just to get into these forums and ask a question was an effort!

In any case, it is a question about Windows 7 (whatever the level highest is professional, I think it is called).

On my Mac, if I use FileZilla to connect to an FTP server (sFTP, not), it works fine.

However, in Windows 7, if I use FileZilla to connect to the same server, when it gets to the point where it starts to list the remote directory I get an ECONNABORT error and disconnected.

I noticed that if I turn off the Windows Firewall if it works and I can use FileZIlla very well.

My question is, rather than to turn off any firewall, how can I make an exception for FTP, or just for FileZilla. I think that the ports 20 and 21 are used depending on whether the connection is active or passive.

I have searched all over the Control Panel, but cannot find a place to make an exception definition - just a place to turn the firewall on or off entirely.

    Thank you

    Doug

  • The Windows Firewall blocks network share on Windows 7

I'm currently on Windows 7 Pro x 64.  I use the firewall of Windows of Microsoft Security Essentials and Microsoft.  No firewall AV or additional software is currently installed.  I regularly use the many Xbox 360 to stream media content of this machine on the home network.  In addition, I set up a homegroup to share resources such as printer and fileshares with other machines in the House.  It's all working perfectly until a few weeks ago.  No direct changes to installation other than updates of Microsoft, Adobe (Flash) and Oracle (Java).  Now, unless I turn off the Windows Firewall, my xboxs can not see the sharing machine, and no other network computers can print/share via homegroup.

Currently, discovery network, file sharing of printers and streaming media are disabled and cannot be reactivated.  Check the radio buttons on the first two, then clicking to save does nothing.  I get sent to the network and sharing Center screen, but when I check again options for change advanced sharing settings, the options are returned to the people with reduced mobility.  Media streaming from this screen says it is on (even if this is not the case), but when I select the option to change this, it says it is disabled (which is correct).  By selecting the option to turn on media streaming continuously, does nothing.  I can click constantly with no change.

I ran the Virus Scan free from Symantec online as long as complete system scan MSSE where each is an element, and in each case, the two elements have been removed (for the threat found by Symantec) NPE and (for the number found by MSSE) the MSSE tool.  I also run SFC/scannow and repaired the problem identified.  With two comprehensive analyses of each tool, I am sure that my machine is the threat and corruption free.

In addition, I went through the list of services recommended to 'start' and 'automatic' which was published MANY times by MANY people.  For clarity, I have all these started and set to automatic:

    o computer browser
    o Client DHCP
    o customer DNS
    o network connections
    o knowledge of network locations
    o remote procedure call (RPC)
    o server
    o support TCP/IP Netbios
    o workstation

With all these started, I can not follow the discovery of the network, the file and printer sharing, and streaming media options running.  I also made sure upnp started as well.

I noticed, however, when I disabled the Windows Firewall, all options could be changed and stayed changed.  I added WMP to the firewall allow list and activated the firewall.  All options have yet.  In the firwall outgoing options are all set to allow, if incoming is currently refused saying "block all connections to programs that are not on the list of allowed programs."  It is the default state of Windows Firewall.

Run without AV and a FW is NOT an option.  Specifically, these are tools MS and should not conflict with these simple network features.

  • The 113 Windows Firewall port

    Hello

I connect to several network devices using telnet, ssh, and ftp.
If I activate the Windows Firewall connects it to take about 10-15 seconds to reach. If I disable the firewall it is instantaneous.
What I've read I need to allow TCP Port 113 (auth / ident) to pass the firewall Windows may reject it properly.
I added a new rule for Port 113 and rebooted, but I still have the same question.
If I turn off the firewall, it works fine, so I know there is not no process running on my PC which interacts with port 113.
In windows 8 I got this problem and never solved so I installed ZoneAlarm which has worked well and I have no problem connecting.
Now, I've upgraded to Windows 8.1 this problem is back and ZoneAlram is not supported.

A certain offer any advise how it opens correctly on the firewall and if there is anything else I need to do.
    Thank you

No do you have ideas on this?

I tried to add inbound and outbound allow rule of traffic, I tried a block but neither seems to help.
Disable the firewall, it works very well!
