Windows Live Mail is STUCK with its default settings.

I was on a Web page and that you wanted to contact the owner of the Web site. He had posted email address, but when I click on it I got a message saying
"Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed."  So since I just put this computer back to factory default settings and have no other programs installed, I went on the Start button > Control Panel > default programs > set your default programs > and then finally clicked on Windows Live Mail. Initially he said he has only 1 / 4 of its default values. I meant to click on 'Choose defaults for this program' to see what a default value was chosen for her. But I clicked on "Set this program as default". I didn't want that. No big deal right?... EVIL!
Since then, I have returned using the Start button > Control Panel > default programs > set your default programs > Windows Live Mail and then this time I chose "choose default for this program. All 4 boxes have been checked. I discovered by default only the Top box is checked, one who is .eml Windows Live Mail Email Message. I tried to uncheck that other issues 3 boxes (.vcf, MAILTO, Send Mail send a mail command), it is that they WILL NOT uncheck. They are all checked and stay activated does not matter I am trying. I turned off the computer, rebooted and tried again. No matter what I have all 4 boxes will remain activated. It is now STUCK as the default program.
Why does say 'Choose default for this program' when there is no choice at all?  The boxes cannot be disabled! I just rest the computer back to the factory default settings thinking something was corrupt to SO MANY problems like this. I mean everyhing music library, trying to burn DVDs using Windows Live Movie Maker and get so many other windows programs to work.  I wrote here so often on various issues.
This problem can be solved? If yes what magic trick is involved in addition to unchecking the boxes that need not be checked beings that they cannot be unchecked now?
Fortunately, I'd say a video I took using a camcorder all the simple steps that have been taken and try to clear some check boxes.

To specify Windows Live Mail as the default mail client, select it in the section Custom define the default settings for the access and the computer program in default programs. Then Windows will know which program to launch when he needs an e-mail client.

When you set your default programs you tell Windows what program to use to open a particular file type or use a particular protocol. When you have selected Windows Live Mail, selected Windows such as the program to use for the four items that you selected. You can only change this marking by selecting a different program in each case, by using the cmdlet to associate any type of file or Protocol with a program under default of programs. Otherwise, Windows do not know what to do with these types of files and protocols.

You can select Windows Mail to open the .vcf files, but unless you have a different e-mail client installed, you will not be able to associate mailto: or sendmail with other programs. the .eml files are simply text files, so you can associate them with, say, Notepad. This isn't a particularly good idea, unless you have a specific reason to do so.

Since your initial problem was not being able to send a message using a mailto: link on a web page, I absolutely do not see why you want to change the default settings that are currently associated with Windows Live Mail. Please explain.

  • Windows Live Mail is stuck in offline mode. How to go online?

My Windows Live Mail will not be online.  When I click to go online, it remains offline.  This happened after my server was offline for about 4 hours and when he returned, the problem resurfaced.

You can try to check the setting in offline mode of Internet Explorer, which is shared with the system via an API.  Open Internet Explorer, press Alt to display the menu bar, and then make sure that 'Work offline' is not selected at the bottom of the file menu.

  • I've updated Windows 8 and Windows Live Mail now clashes with Microsoft Store

    Hello

I use Windows Live Mail. I just updated Windows 8.1 (regular updates) and rebooted my PC. Now when I click on the links in my emails, rather than open this link in my Web browser, it shows "no apps are installed for this type of link (res)" and gives me the ability to search the store.

Thanks in advance for your help,

    Stephen

I don't know what a "res" link would be, because the e-mail links should be the "mailto:" Protocol.

    But you can try this:

Go to the desktop Panel by right clicking your Start button.  Under the section "Programs", find "choose your default programs" and the value of Windows Live Mail to have all possible defects it can handle.

  • Problem with update for Windows Live Mail

Who uses Windows Live Mail 2012 without problem for years, and then I did the update last week. Although it still shows my mail files, he will not show me the subfolders of these folders. I even uninstalled LIve Mail completely and reinstalled. Same stupid problem. Is it possible to simply uninstall the update and revert to the previous version? Everything is accessible through the browser e-mail access. If this cant get solved so I just uninstall Live Mail because it is now useless for me 99%. NICE WORK ON THE TESTING OF PRODUCTS.

IF you do not use any Microsoft e-mail programs installed (hot mail, outlook.com, etc), Windows Live Mail 2011.  It is practically the same with a few differences that probably will be okay for you.  Good WLM2011 can actually make groups.

WLM is part of any offer from Microsoft called Windows Live Essentials.  Probably you don't need many other parts and you can select the ones you want as part of the installation process.

    Download WLM2011 http://filehippo.com/download_windows_live_mail/

    Uninstall WLM2012

    Install WLM 2011

It will not affect your data at all.

At the time, it is possible Microsoft will get this right, but in the meantime, you do not have a victim of their screw - rises.

Keep in mind that Microsoft don't like, you can use any e-mail program.  He prefers that you use their webmail programs so that it can send unlimited ads in your face that are selected for you based on the content of your mail.

Tip: Set WLM to automatically delete the Inbox of server after n days.  Do the same for other e-mail providers.

From the Control Panel, select programs, and then click default programs.

In the left pane, select Windows Live Mail.

If sure that it "program has all its faults" list just below the big white text box.

If another option is listed, click on "Set this program as default", make sure that the text has been changed as follows and confirm, then try to scan to E-mail once more.

If it persists, try to go to control panel > uninstall a program.

Select Windows Live Mail and click on repair.

Follow the instructions on the screen, then check if you can see a difference.

  • Any attempt to recover saved emails in Windows Live Mail.

I backed up my laptop to external hard drive WD My Passport.  After the replacement of a hard drive crashed on my computer I tried to recover my data backup.  Successfully, I got my documents, pictures, videos and music, but can't find my email Windows Live Mail, contacts or calendar.  I would like to give my 2 Windows Live Mail accounts.

WLM stores messages (and other data) as shown below

The default location is C; \user\your name\app user data (can be invisible - later) \local\Microsoft\ windows live mail.  I nyour if you need to do 'show files and hidden folders visible, then navigate to the folder on the equivalent WD drive.

(app data are hidden you must go into Control Panel (depending on operating system) > folder options > view > display the hidden files and folders)

If you used on the old HD and HD new WLM.  You just need to install WLM on new > open once > and then take the whole WLM on the writing of the new and the old folder

Install WLM on the new open once and then do slide the whole WIndows live mail from WD to the default location listed above.

  • Execution of outgoing e-mail in Windows Live Mail, does not.

My windows live mail account is blocked due to 3 leavers of the emails, do not run.  How can I delete them when I can't access anything whatsoever?  All that happens when I click on the icon of Windows Live Mail, the box with my 3 outgoing emails... runs.  Help!

You should get WLM mode offline to be able to delete messages from Outbox work problem. Try to quickly click the blue globe down right when it starts.  If this fails, try offlined of Internet Explorer before running WLM because it also affects WLM.

  • Cannot open attachments in Windows Live Mail on Windows 7

I bought a new Windows 7 machine, a few days ago (July 12, 2013).  I installed Windows Live Mail and uploaded (with limited success at best) messages from Outlook Express in WL.  I uninstalled McAfee and installed and activated Norton.  Then I started using WL email today.  I have received a few messages with Word attachments.  I can not open them with a double-click or with right click then click on 'open '.  I can not print them.  When I try, nothing happens.  I can save to a folder and then open them, but it's a great nuisance.

Surprising oddity: I think THAT I managed to open the first attachment that I received.  I know that I looked at, and I don't remember any problem.  But I can to open it (the email with the attachment is still in my Inbox queue), or any other accessory.  It is a particular idea to any aspiring detective software!

In the windows of forum I see that others have had similar problems, and no one could help you after several tries.  Is this just a problem with WL?

    Good luck.

FWIW, I used Outlook Express for years. When I got this Win7 machine, I tried WLMail 2009, which was "pre Ribbon toolbar" and I did not like much for her. 2011 is a disaster. I switched to Thunderbird and I am very happy with it.
