  This problem can be solved? If yes what magic trick is involved in addition to unchecking the boxes that need not be checked beings that they cannot be unchecked now?
  Fortunately, I'd say a video I took using a camcorder all the simple steps that have been taken and try to clear some check boxes.

  To specify Windows Live Mail as the default mail client, select it in the section Custom define the default settings for the access and the computer program in default programs. Then Windows will know which program to launch when he needs an e-mail client.

  Since your initial problem was not being able to send a message using a mailto: link on a web page, I absolutely do not see why you want to change the default settings that are currently associated with Windows Live Mail. Please explain.

  While away from home, I used my mobile to get online and download emails. As soon as I saw them, I clicked on 'work offline' in order to read and write the answer without using the 3 G for too long.  Since then, I have not been able to work online so I can't send or receive emails or open the 'old'. Also, my contacts have disappeared.
  I tried "System Restore" and repair Windows Live essential.  Neither made any difference.

  Even if you have lost any info at the end of Windows Live Mail client on your laptop desktop computer, it can not be lost completely, as the good sign is have you worked offline, data so never synchronized with the real Active Server to web-based Microsoft account. Try as a solution to connect to http://www.outlook.com/ and see if you can see all of your emails and contacts.   Is there something that you misunderstood. There are a lot of 'links' between Internet Explorer and Windows Live Mail. It provides the display of HTML messages, it provides a print engine, and above all, it offers Internet connectivity. It does this for any program that connects to the Internet. However, some of these programs seem to interfere with Internet connectivity (although this has not been confirmed by Microsoft, to my knowledge). There is a registry setting that must be honored by all programs, but it isn't. The only way to change this setting (outside of directly editing the registry) is to use the command on the file menu of the Internet Explorer browser.

  You can test this yourself by uninstalling completely third party browsers such as Chrome and Firefox, to see if the same failure persists. Then re-install one at the time and the test again.
