Windows Mail Archiving

Is it possible to copy the messages windows mail with or without attachments on a CD for archiving

For a readable CD backup messages:

Create a Windows folder on your desktop or elsewhere and then in WinMail open the folder that contains the messages you want to save. Highlight a message, and then Ctrl + A will highlight all (or Ctrl-button down while you select only messages you want), now, drag and drop them into the folder on your desktop.

Now you can copy this folder to a CD and you'll be able to read the messages on the CD by double-clicking them.

Don't remove Winmail until you are satisfied with the results.

  • How do I import saved in Windows Mail Outlook pst file?

I saved my Outlook e-mail in a PST on a hard drive external.  Now I want to restore that saved email on another computer that uses windows mail.  I tried to use the "import" feature, but it does not give me a PST in option.

    Hello

Windows Mail is unable to import a .pst file if Outlook is installed on the Vista computer. You can install Outlook, copy the PST on the Vista computer, open the .pst with Outlook, then you can import into Windows Mail.

Here are a few links that tells you how you can import a .pst in Windows Mail.

    * "This message could not be deleted.
    * At the start of Windows Mail, this message appears "a few errors have occurred while proecessing tasks. Please see the list of errors below for more details". However, it is not all the details listed.

  • How to reindex WIndows Mail

How to reindex Windows Mail?  The structure of Windows Mail files is different when played back via the Explorer with the program itself. Records that I renamed or deleted the last months within Windows mail are still visible and the items in deleted folders for example contain dozens of emails when played back through Explorer, even though it is empty when it is seen by mail.

I tried to export, but it matches the version exploring rather than the version of Mail and falls down so I try and do any archive.

I would like to clean it up so that "dead" emails aren't always in disk space, and so I have a little more confidence that a restore will work, they appear on the search results.

Try to compact and repair the database.

    Hello:

I do not download e-mail messages from the e-mail system on the Web for an e-mail program

There is a bug that has this pop-up message in Outlook Express, the same when you're not using it, but I've never heard of what happens in Windows Mail.

This saint, especially as you don't use Winmail, it won't hurt a thing to click OK and accept the compaction. If the problem arises in the future, open WinMail and in tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance, uncheck the box for compact the database on shutdown every xx runs.

  • How to remove and reset the Contacts folder / files in Vista Windows Mail

How can I delete the Contacts in Vista - and actually reset the folder so that windows treats the files ".contact" as - good contact and no text.

Because what was going on, I decided to try to start from scratch - I just copied all the files in the folder of contacts to a archive and deleted all the files in the contacts folder.

From Windows Mail - I am capable of was able to use the tool 'Add to contacts' and the Contact form (properties) dialog happens - but if I open the Contacts folder directly (Windows or Windows Mail 'button'), I get a window of the typical Explorer with a newlt created contact list (for example there are 6 in there now all created from Windows Mail) - if I try to open an existing contact - it opens in the Notepad - text - garbage.  (Same problem I had)

I've been setting up with a Contacts folder corrupted since I bought my desktop with Vista in 2008 - I think I looked into the question of import then and there is no function of CSV to import the contacts (that I could find) - and / or the inport corrupted the file - so when I open a file of contacts I get the text of the file - it opens in Notepad - and not a Contact form.

With more than 600 contacts in there, I didn't have to manually retype all data, but it's time to bite the bullet.

    Hello PaulJMoore,

    ·         Do you have just copied the contacts in archive and did not export them?

    ·         What is the extension of the contact files you copied?

You should try to reset the contacts folder.

    1. in Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder C:\Users\(user name) \Contacts.

    2. right click on an empty space in the main pane of the middle of the window and click Customize this folder.

    3. under the type of folder do you want, click the arrow next to the model list drop-down list.

    4. click on Contacts to select.

NOTE: Check apply also this template to all subfolders if you want to change all subfolders in the Contacts folder to the Contacts model as well.

    5. click on OK.

The contacts created with Windows Vista are in the format of .vlc. When you try to open them to the archived location where you saved, he would not be able to access Windows Mail to open the contacts.

First of all try to copy all the contacts in the Contacts folder on the \Contacts C:\Users\(user name folder location).

If this does not work, try to import all the contacts that you have saved to the location that is archived using the import option from the Windows Messaging.

You can read this article which will give you information on how to import contacts:

  • import of e-mail express (dbx files) outlook XP pro store in windows mail.__I should be able to find them easily! __

I was using xp rpo with outlook express.  Now upgraded to windows 7, how can I MOVE ALL MY EMAIL in WINDOWS mail

    Hi lapin21,

Please use the forum for answers,

Windows Mail is not available in Windows 7, you want to reinstall Windows XP.  You will need to back up data before you reinstall.  Best way to do is upgrade Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail and export your data to another drive.

    Switch to Windows 7 FAQ

    Switch to Windows 7

    http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/Windows7/archive/2009/09/24/moving-to-Windows-7.aspx

Your Windows Mail data will be archived for the upgrade to Win7.

That said, note that Win7 does not include all default email Client

(e.g., Windows Mail;) (Windows Live Mail).

If you install Windows Live Mail in Win7, I'd recommend switching

for Windows Live Mail Vista first to ease the transition.

If you purchase and install Outlook 2007 in Win7, I would recommend

install Vista now and then export your data from Windows Mail to

Outlook 2007 before the upgrade. If you install only Outlook in Win7, you

will NOT be able to migrate archived data from Windows Mail in Outlook.

  • Windows Mail-> Thunderbird. Online help does not program. How to import?

I'm trying to take the Thunderbird (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/switching-thunderbird#w_switching-from-windows-mail-or-windows-live-mail-to-thunderbird) online for converting Windows Mail to Thunderbird (no Live Mail). I'm at the stage of import. The instructions say:

"In Thunderbird, go to tools | ImportExport | Import all messages from a directory. Also to its subdirectories. »

Under Tools, there is import, but no footage. When the import option is selected, it does not allow a directory location, only what to import (Eveything, Mail, Contacts, etc.). When choose "Import all" and pressing 'Next' nothing is on the list to import. The button 'Next' does nothing and the Cancel button cancels the entire import.

Can you explain (or point to an article accurate and up-to-date on) how to import all messages (including local mailboxes and the structures of files kept intact).

    Thank you.

In the first paragraph of the section "Import Windows Mail Messages", it says you need to download and install the ImportExportTools add-on - we. Once installed, the relevant menu options will appear in TB.

  • import from windows mail emails from a broken vista pc

My 32 bit Vista computer died - power, card mother etc. I have Acronis Disk full backups on a daily and external drive Acronis cloud of my files 'user '. What I don't have is a Windows Mail systems working group to export my old emails. When I run Thunderbird, are there emails in any way I can get these old backup, even if it means going from one place to another to get them.
As a temporary measure, I am now on a Windows 7 64-bit system.
If someone can help, but needs more information, let me know.
    Thank you.

If your drag / drop off the mail will find themselves in some folder you \drop in.

A better solution would be to use the add-on from the import export tools if you have several nested folders as it will import a folder and the subfolders. The add-on will recreate your folder structure. It you choose to import the messages in a folder and its subfolders.
