  For Windows XP, try the following steps:

  Is your username mentioned in the tab security for storage files and all subfolders, and has 'full control '?

  If these files are really empty then the transfer/import routine failed for some unknown (to me) reason.

  Have you tried to copy all old messages from the Windows.old folder, put in a file in your user name for example Documents and then import from there?   It is perhaps necessary to remove to another location in the current storage folder in Windows Live Mail rather than simply delete before rerunning the import program.

  Have you tried to temporarily disable your anti program virus and other security programs to see if that blocks emails appear?

  Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click on your drive icon / properties / tools / error checking.  First try checking not be (read-only) to see if it reports any problems file or hard drive.  If this is the case, start by checking the two boxes, in no other rerun.

  I think this isn't the Windows update that caused this problem. It could be something else the cause. Windows Update never removes any of your files and folders stored in the computer.

  You can try a system restore to a previous point when the computer was working properly.

  When I display all the messages in my Inbox Windows Mail with an attachment, as the 'Save attachments' feature in Windows Mail is "grayed out" on the FILE menu drop-down (both when you view messages in the preview pane, and when the message is opened).  The attachment trombone appears in the folder list, but I can see is the trombone of attachment in the preview pane to open the attachment.  If I open the message, I can see and open the attachment and save it then its native application (Word, Excel, Adobe, etc.).   It is a known problem if you installed IE9.  There is no solution.  You can either uninstall IE9, or you can continue to open the mail in a separate window to save attachments.  Moreover, with IE9 installed, the default font specified under Tools | Options | Read is no longer accepted and if you want to change the default font, you must change it in IE via Tools | Options | Fonts and then set the font here.

  If it is a new machine call or go to circuit city and get them fixed.  If they sold you the laptop, indicating that it included Windows XP then the onus is on them that provide you a valid COA and the product key.

  This type of error is usually caused by interference from a non compatible anti-virus program. What antivirus do you use? At a minimum, email, scanning in the antivirus must be disabled, but maybe it's not enough to eliminate all the bad effects. In the worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

  If disable your antivirus e-mail analysis feature does not solve your problem, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less sensitive to the suffering of the ill effects of too intrusive antivirus programs: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

  Pages do not display flash objects, nor is there anything to place them - they're invisible, empty space.
  Flash drive works fine in IE, no error messages.
  When I check for updates of the addon, no addon is listed as obsolete.
