Cannot receive or send mail using the Windows Mail get 0x800CCC18 error number
Windows mail was working fine until about 2: 30 EST 2011-12-14 and tried to send an email and got the above error msg.Check with your mail service provider to make sure that there is not an intermittent interruption of service. If you have webmail capabilities, you can also check. Otherwise, compact and repair the database (www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/) and if that doesn't help, remove your e-mail account, close and reopen WinMail and then add it back back. Also check 3rd party program interference such as antivirus software (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3).

Outlook Express 6 - can receive messages but not send - error number: 0x800CCC0E
Original title: Outlook Express 6 - can receive messages but not send
I recently installed SP3 on my Windows XP machine and installed Internet Explorer 8. After that, Outlook stopped mail (still receives, if) and gave me this error message:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.qmcompany.com', server: 'mail.qmcompany.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, secure (SSL): no, Socket error: 10060, error number: 0x800CCC0E
I tried everything but reinstall Outlook Express. Is there a compatibility issue with IE 8? Any help would be appreciated.

Immediately following October 10, 2013 Windows Vista update automated - 25 updates is installed on my Toshiba Satellite laptop and HP Pavilion Desktop - cannot send emails from a computer using Windows Mail - they return both the same error message: "failed to connect to server...". "Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, secure (SSL): no, Socket error: 10013, error number: 0x800CCC0E". E-mail can still receive however on both machines. There is no problem whether the sending of emails minutes before the update took place. Anyone who has known (and solved) this problem?
Postscript: problem solved - on both my laptop and desktop, I discovered that under Windows Mail > tools > accounts > (my tiscali account) > properties > servers, the entry for the outgoing (SMTP) mail has been entered incorrectly as smpt.tiscali.co.uk. This change of smtp.tiscali.co.uk solved the problem on both machines.
Windows Mail worked perfectly on both machines immediately before Windows update Oct 10 - so it seems that the update must have corrupted a file to install Windows Mail on my two computers. Not sure how other users may be affected by this...
Perhaps Microsoft could take a look?

I've been out of town for a few days. I was using a public Wi - Fi connection to my laptop. The first part of the week worked fine, but now using the same wireless connection, I receive the following error message. Has happened since yesterday afternoon 03/10/08 and today is 05/10/08. What is the problem? Help, please!
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.charter.net', server: 'mail.charter.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, secure (SSL): Yes, Socket error: 10060, error number: 0x800CCC0E

As a general rule, the owner of the SMTP server must be the same that provides your Internet connection at the moment.
The workarounds available when sending abroad are the following:
1. use webmail to send (via your browser).
2. ask your ISP if they have one port other than '25' for SMTP. I do not think that
Charter of fact. Cable companies are very difficult to accommodate travellers.
3. If you frequently use the same connection away from home, replace the SMTP Protocol
Server in this respect. It's a little tricky, but if you want to go this route.
I can provide more details.
4. If you frequently send to multiple locations, get a free Gmail account,
Configure it to POP access and use for your shipment of household chores.
Gmail uses port 465 for SMTP, which is not blocked as is port 25.

I stop suddenly be able to send an email, but I get e-mails without problem. No change of ISPS or anything else I know.
Make the following changes.
Changing port # 465 not 25.
Checkmark on this server requires a secure connection (SSL).
..........................................................................................Open Windows mail (assuming that's what you are using) > tools > accounts > your AT & T/Yahoo account > properties >
under the servers tab:
Mail incoming (POP3)... pop.att.yahoo.com
Outgoing (SMTP) e-mail... smtp.att.yahoo.com
"My server requires authentication" should be checked.on the Advanced tab:
Outgoing (SMTP) mail... 465 not 25
Incoming (POP3) mail... 995

Your server suddenly put an end to the connection. The possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. "Crash" is usually caused by interference from a non compatible anti-virus program. What antivirus do you use? At a minimum, email, scanning in the antivirus must be disabled, but maybe it's not enough to eliminate all the bad effects. In the worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled. If disable your antivirus e-mail analysis feature does not solve your problem, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less sensitive to the suffering of the ill effects of too intrusive antivirus programs: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview
E-mail analysis in any antivirus must be disabled, for the reasons explained here:

I have, I've been making the mistake of another email on another connection on below = the same PC configuration SMTP and POP3 works on another PC but when I try the frame to the top of the same bet on the same PC I have two connections I get this
message; The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Colleen', server: 'xxxxxxxx.yourwebhosting.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, secure (SSL): no, Socket error: 10061, error number: 0x800CCC0E
I readt through this channel and have tried most of the things listed I have Norton System works 2009 I tried it is installed and uninstalled as well.
I'm running out of ideas?
I tried port 25 (which works on another PC) but on this one it is not.
I tried the 587 port not working either.anyhelp would be greatly appreciated
De : Gary van
I guess that your problem is with the reception, because the error message you have provided relates to the reception.
Ports 25 and 587 do not affect receive it, because they are for the shipment. The error message is difficult to assess because you x'd, one part of the name of the server. Perhaps the error is in the part "xxxxxxxx" to the name of the server.

First of all, see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 and see if your antivirus interferes. Some are known with play with WinMail and its messages and the database. Then compact and repair the database (see www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/), and then see if it boots and your account works fine. You may need to delete your account, compact and repair the database, and then add it back again. But first, make sure that your antivirus is not that live up to WinMail. www.Microsoft.com/security_essentials seems to work very well.

I can receive emails but cannot send an email, error number: 0x800CCC0E
I have not had any problems with my email until suddenly today. I can receive emails but can't send mail I get this message:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: ' POP - server.san.rr.com', server: ' SMTP - server.san.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, secure (SSL): no, Socket error: 10060, error number: 0x800CCC0E
After an hour on the phone with Time Warner Cable diagnosis, they said the problem is on my computer. How can I fix that I can send emails again?
Check the server due to the Properties tab, make sure that my outgoing mail server requires authentication in unchecked.

- Who is your mail server?
- Is it in Windows Mail?
Unless it is your own domain name, you don't have the account set correctly.
