  • Windows Media Center won't play video, but Windows Media Player will be?

I'm reading a video .avi with the xvid codec. I installed the codec earlier and it plays fine in Windows Media Player, but when I try to play in Windows Media Center, it indicates that one or more codecs are required to play this file, but they cannot be found. I know I would just watch with Windows Media Player instead of Media Center, but I want to watch it on my Media Center extension (my Xbox). I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate, 64-bit. Why does Windows Media Player with this codec and Windows Media Center not work? How can I solve this problem?

    -Slick05_1

    Hi Slick05_1,

Thanks for the replies on the forum.

Given that the Microsoft Vista Media Center and XBOX do not play the files suggest it would need to be a codec which solves the problem or maybe file conversion which would solve the problems you are experiencing.  Since the codecs for files is not something written by Microsoft, we do not have the information for that in our system.

What I suggest is to go to your search engine preferred and in the search line and typing "is possible to play VLC on XBOX.

    WARNING:

Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

What I suggest also done an online search using your favorite search engine for "play MKV files in Vista x 64 Media Center" to find whether there may be suggestions about codecs or these codecs created by other organizations then Microsoft.

Please let us know if you are able to get this to work for you.

  • How to get Vista Windows Media Center to really stop video

During playback of a video in WMC the stop button takes me to the screen with various options beginning with 'Done '. When
'fact' is selected the video goes into the small PIP with square stopped blue and remains here and in "Now Playing".

How do I really stop a video rather than have him act as if he is only suspended.

When I press 'stop' and 'fact' I want that it shut down completely.

    Hi Dazema,

It is the occurrence of same process even in my computer when any type of video. This is normal.

You can also pass the option to click on the left arrow to return to Windows Media Center options after stopping the video or the video playback.

  • Windows Media Center will not record shows?

I just brought a new model of the series Gateway ZRX 6971, with touch screen

I have upgraded to Windows 8 Pro

Get the free download for Windows Media Center

Previously recorded shows that has been saved so I still had Windows 7 has played without problems in Windows 8

However, it won't save poster now because I have "insufficient disk space".

But I have over 900 GB of free space!

I tried to tweak the settings in the settings options and even tried to disable recording of HD!

    Still no luck!  Help!

See my post "Windows 8 - record TV with Windows Media Center problem"

The answer to my problem is in the penultimate position...

I managed to solve it now by running a recovery job in the computer management application.

In case anyone else has this problem, here's what I did:

    1. close Windows Media Center

    2. open the computer management application and navigate to the bottom of the tree in the left panel by selecting system tools-> Task Scheduler-> Task Scheduler Library-> Microsoft-> Windows-> Media Center

    3. at the top, the central panel find the "MediaCenterRecoveryTask" task, which should have a status of "Ready".  Right-click on the task and select run (status changes to "Running")

4 wait for the task to do his stuff (the status does not change) then right click on the task again and select end (State dates back to "Ready")

    5. open Windows Media Center, which will realize that there is a problem and that it is necessary to rerun the configuration

After the execution of the task above and completing a successful installer of Windows Media Center, I found I could record once more tv!

Guess I'll never know exactly what was wrong, but I'll settle for having working again!

    Hope that works for you

  • Audio stuttering then crash by watching the video with Windows Media center

I'm having a problem with Windows Media Center which seems to have left me speechless. Whenever I have try and watch live TV or recorded using Media Center program, he starts to play to repeat the first second of audio for about 6 seconds and then stops playing gives me an video error and won't let watch me something else. I have a Setup Xbox 360 as an Extender and having no problem whatsoever. The strange thing is that, if I open the program saved directly from Explorer windows with media center, it will play well. If I stop and try and then click RESUME He stutters and gives me this video error.
It used to work fine until I started to play with the audio settings from 5.1 to 7.1 audio in the windows configuration settings. I changed the settings in-game your 7.1 speakers. Actually I tried to switch back, but when I try to 'Test' the speakers it gives a sound like it is stuttering and I still get the video error when I try to play. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Sue,

    1. using any client e-mail (Windows Live Mail, Outlook) or a Webmail?

    2. What is the issue that you are facing while opening attach documents?

Try the following and see if it helps.

    Method 1:

I you suggest to download the files and save it on your computer and then try to access the data files using the program and check if it helps.

    Method 2:

Refer to the steps in the following Microsoft article and check.

When you run an .exe on a Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 computer file, the file can start another program

Note: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. • Media Center of the video window - serious on dvd has audio/video desynchronization

Whenever I try to burn recorded videos on a dvd using Windows Media Center, the video and audio are always synchronized when DVDs are read. I tried several times and still the same problem experiece. I have no problem with any aspect of the Media Center and all other DVDs play fine on my PC, so I guess that something goes wrong during the burn process.

    Hello

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Answers.

NOTE: This doesn't uninstall the device and let the device driver installed for the device.
    (A) uncheck the button remove the software driver of this box of the device.
NOTE: If you do not have this option, then only the device is uninstalled.
    (B) click OK.
NOTE: Sometimes, you may be asked to restart the computer to finish uninstalling the driver. If you do, then click Yes to restart the computer.
    7. close Device Manager, and then restart the computer. Uninstall and reinstall the back of the computer.

5 If you have the enabled User Account Control (UAC) you will be asked to consent to the opening of the command line. You simply press the button continue if you are the administrator or insert password etc.
    6. in the command prompt window, type: sfc/scannow then press enter
    7. a message is displayed to indicate that "the analysis of the system will start.
    8. be patient because the analysis may take some time
    9. If all the files need replace SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Vista DVD for this process to continue
    10. If all goes although you should, after the analysis, see the following message "Windows resource protection not found any breach of integrity.
11 after the scan finished, close the command prompt window reboot the computer and check.

If you have installed any 3rd codec part on the computer, try to uninstall and reinstall and check.

  • Problems with reorded/live TV in Windows Media Center/player

Having recently updated the drivers for my graphics (Nvidea GeForce GTX 460 SE) Windows Media Player/Center refuses to show any video image during an attempt to play live TV or TV recorded previously. I only get audio.
My drivers are up to date and the only thing I can think that I've changed has been updated my graphic drivers. This is television shows that were working before.
I have been using a third-party program to play these in the meantime, but obviously it is not compatible with my remote windows.
    Any suggestions?

If it all started after updating the graphics driver, you can easily restore the driver.

Try to card tv tuner driver update. Visit the tv tuner card manufacturer's Web site to download and install the latest version of the driver.
