Windows Media Center ruins my games

Windows Media Center is to give me a real kick in the face. I tried to play Guild Wars and Combat arms, both are online games only. But when I run games, it takes a few seconds and all of a sudden, housing starts Windows Media Center and disable the games. Then the only thing I can do is to stop the games. I can't connect in the first place, I have to stop him directly to the output. And once I have stop the games, Windows Media Center is displayed. I tried to disable WMC, and I contacted Swedish support of Microsoft. I also followed this guide , but I've not deleted, only disabled and who did not work at all.

Is new, the computer I had yesterday, and it is a Packard Bell iMedia A5610 NCD, with Windows Vista Service Pack 1 installed (standard software, installed when I bought the computer). I bought this computer in order to play these games, and when this happened, I was so angry and disappointed.

What shall I do to be able to play these games?

Please help me!

Hello Windfish.

In the start right click on your Guild Wars or Combat Arms shortcuts Menu, go to properties and make sure that the target field contains not mce - at the end.  If this is the case, remove and OK outside.

Try then. :-) Paul Smith - MVP for Windows desktop experience... I crawled off NNTP - for now. Announcement of Yeovil, United Kingdom. On the internet at windowsresource.net and dasmirnov.net. Please post back to let us know what works and what does not. :-)

  • Netflix will not load up to in Windows Media Center more.

I've had Netflix service for about two months now. Up to two days, I was able to stream movies through Netflix and Windows Media Center option. Now it will not load anything. It will allow me to connect to Netflix, but I can't get something and my instant queue will not charge.

    I get a message stating:

    NO INTERNET CONNECTION:

The internet connection has been lost. Make sure that your computer is connected to the internet, and then try again.

Problem is that I'm connected to the internet. (If I was not logged in, they would not connect to Netflix in the first place.)

I had even gone to the Media Center General settings to test the internet connection and it says that the internet actually works.

What is going on? I missed something?

You can try a system restore on the eve of the update has been installed and see if
the problem is resolved. Nothing in the update that fell from Netflix,
but you can certainly try a restore. A restore is a good troubleshooting step
    for beginners.

  • Loss of signal HDMI in Windows Media Center

I have a Dell Studio Hybrid PCs only running Windows Vista Home Edition Premium attached to a Samsung LN52A750 LCD HDTV via HDMI. If I turn on the TV away from the PC input and back, I lose the video signal... but only when Windows Media Center is running in full screen.

    It works fine:

    1. Turn on the TV.
    2. Switch to PC input on the TV.
    3. Turn on the PC.
    4. Start Windows Media Center.
    5. Turn off the PC.
    6. Turns off the TV (or switch to a different input).

    This also works very well:

    1. Turn on the TV.
    2. Switch to PC input on the TV.
    3. Turn on the PC.
    4. Start Windows Media Center.
    5. Minimize Windows Media Center.
    6. Turn on the TV to a different entry, but leave the PC.
    7. Turn on your TV to the PC - you see always the computer.

    It does NOT work:

    1. Turn on the TV.
    2. Switch to PC input on the TV.
    3. Turn on the PC.
    4. Start Windows Media Center.
    5. Turn on the TV to a different entry, but leave the PC with Windows Media Center in full screen running .
    6. Try to turn on the TV to the PC - no picture or sound is on the screen and the PC must be restarted to return sound/video fully.

I came across this problem recently (after the passage of a VGA/DVI to HDMI connection). First of all, I came across it when the PC would go to sleep - the video signal stops and the TV stop see the PC signal, even once the PC is awake. I have read a bit online and thought it was something people call a problem of 'EDID handshake. " I thought simply not let the computer sleep (and do not turn off the PC video) would fix it, but I ran into another issue. Kind of a twist.

I was showing friends how Media Center worked, I spent in the PC, showed them Windows Media Center, spent in a different entry, then switched back to the PC (because I forgot to show you something). The blue background of Media Center appeared for a split second and the signal was instantly lost. I had to reload completely in order to recover the signal.

I retried the experience - shot to the top of Media Center, active the TV away from the computer, then it passed right away - same result. Restart lost, hard signal.

I don't know how I fell on it, but at some point, I had the experience with a twist. I pulled to the top of the computer, started Media Center and reduced. Then I moved the TV away from the PC and back... and the signal was always there. I did it again, and again, the signal was there. The TV turns off and on again - signal always there. Then I enlarged Media Center, changed television away from the PC, and when I came back... NO SIGNAL.

So: with full-screen Media Center loses the signal, but when Media Center is reduced to a minimum the signal remains.

I started thinking about how my recent use of the Media Center differed from the previous time. Normally, I use the Media Center, watch a movie or something and then go and do something else. I'm back from PC to something else and back. And every time that I had spent in the PC and he had kept the signal, the screen saver has been on - the screen saver 'bubbles '.

Something that I noticed with the screensaver "Bubbles" is that it sometimes brings the Windows taskbar in the foreground so it 'up' to the Windows Media Center full screen appears. I usually turn the television on the PC input before "wake the computer" and to get the screensaver to go.

Now I wonder if the lost signal has something to do with Windows Media Center. I have [I think] know a bit the functioning of Windows and the concept of execution of different 'offices '. I wrote a screensaver in C++ unmanaged long ago and I remember there was some crazy stuff that you have to do when you write an application "windowless" (as Media Center - there is no border around it when it goes full screen) and make the "caches", as the screen saver 'bubbles '. I wonder if he has something to do with the standard Windows Desktop works correctly but the Windows Media Center app full screen "desktop" does not properly.

I tried another experience where I kept full screen WMC, leave the TV losing signal and press Win + D to minimize and show the desktop. Then I went to the TV in the back. No luck - once the signal has been lost, it was lost for good.

I did since then research various responses. I read that defining the ACPI suspend mode S3 would fix it, but it doesn't. I tried implementing a keyboard shortcut attached to a script that could change the display resolution of 640 x 480 and then change back because I read changing the resolution to update the signal - which did not work.

Basically, I got no alternative except to keep WMC reduced when it is not in use.

I'll try to set the screen saver "Bubbles" to 1 minute or something and see if that will at least let me inputs turn on the TV after one minute of inactivity. Yet, it would be good to know if there is some setting I'm missing.

    Hello Travis and Jmelton98,

Thank you for posting.  Your tests of Travis and additional post of Jmelton, it seems it will be probably something that only can be set by the video card drivers.  If you were to look at the known issues for some drivers, you would see similar questions types.  It is one of the reasons for the drivers for video cards are updated so often.  Sometimes there will be a problem so important that they will release a special patch to fix (like what happened during the crisis game is released).  There should be a new series of pilots soon become availible.

Please try and see if the problem persists.  Thank you both for the replies that it will help others too. Zack

  • All of a sudden no sound in Windows Media Center, video playback. No problem with the same files in media player

My windows media center vista has all of a sudden start to turn off randomly and restart by itself, about 3 weeks ago.  Now, he has lost his.  When I'm going through orders, no sound.  Video games, no sound.  I can still get sound for mp3, but not video.  I can play the same video in media player without any problem.  Can anyone help?  I have Vista Ultimate, service Pack2.

    Hi Doramon,

Welcome to the Windows Vista answers Forum!

What are the file extensions you are trying to play?

This could happen because some of the types of files supported by Windows Media Player are not supported by Windows Media Center.

To check the file types supported by Windows Media Center please visit the below given link:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/file-types-supported-by-Windows-Media-Center

You can also try and run the System File Checker tool. This would be in repair of the system files that may be damaged.

    Scan SFC enforcement procedure:

    1. click on the Start button

    2. on the Start Menu, click all programs followed by accessories

    3. in the menu accessories, right-click on command line option

    4. in the drop-down menu that appears, click the "Run as Administrator" option

    5. If you have the User Account Control (UAC) enabled, you will be asked permission before the opening of the command line. You simply press the button continue if you are the administrator or insert password etc.

    6. in the command prompt window, type: sfc/scannow then press enter

    7. a message is displayed to indicate that "the analysis of the system will start.

    8. be patient because the analysis may take some time

    9. If all the files need replace SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Vista DVD for this process to continue

    10. If all goes although you should, after the analysis, see the following message "Windows resource protection not found any breach of integrity.

    11. once the scan is finished, close the command prompt window, restart the computer and check.

This would take care of the issue that you are facing.
