Can someone please?  I go crazy - my windows media player will not play anything except the sound on videos (films are so far the problem).  She claims codecs are updated automatically, I'm too scared to download some unknown codec. I tried everything I know to do and I'm not too bad to understand such things.  I am now at a loss.  What is the problem here? BTW-Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, Toshiba laptop.  I think that Media Player 11.

Volunteer J ~ THANK YOU very MUCH FOR THE REPLY! I WILL RESPECT ALL THE SOLUTIONS YOU HAVE TO OFFER!  From what I can tell, they are my videos (movies) transferred from the cd to the media player.  Videos of "sample" provided pre work ok.  My films all have the extension .avi at the end, that's why I don't understand why they will play only the sound of the film, not the actual Visual part. . AVI should be accompanied by my windows media player.  As I said, I'm pretty decent to deal with such things as a result of working with a lot of "technicians" in recent years; This is why I do not bother anyone here, but I am at a loss for what to do. If it's codecs, I don't want to take the risk to download a bad codec and corrupting my system.  Already checked the updates of Media player, there are not available at this time.  She has also set to automatically download codecs.  Man, it drives me crazy!  ConfusedOne70 aka Michelle

  • Windows media player rating system / random play

I'm having a problem with my Windows media player and its rating system. After so much time to listen to all my music on random, he started playing some songs more frequently (based on evaluations of random playback) than others. (E.g. you have 100 songs in your music folder. You play all, but randomly. After a day or two of that, along with some songs will be raised by default 3 stars, while that others who have not been chosen at random so far not.) The random function is very fond of top rated music.  I want to know how to disable the rating system. Is there any other option than to go through my entire music collection and give a rating of 5 stars?

Unfortunately, I don't think that it is possible to disable the function of automatic scoring of WMP.

You can, however, create an auto playlist that excludes most recently played songs, by adding a condition to Date played last is previous to the x . Then, you can play this auto playlist instead of all music. For more information, search help WMP AutoPlaylist .

  • Windows 7 custom sound system plays not

I tried to substitute other sounds .wav for standard system sounds in System 7, but they do not play. These same soundsdo play if I select and play in a window of Windows Explorer. Standard system sounds (I use Raga) play as expected. Any thoughts on what is happening?

This has to do with the name of the file. She seems to be a bug, while the file works only if the file has the word "Windows" at the beginning of the file name.

PS There is also a bug where the "Select" sound does not work any file that you put.

  • the Player Windows media 7 sound but no picture just stopped working

Windows 7 media player on my pc hp laptop pavilion dv7 plays sound just no picture, I downloaded vlc player is the same can help you please

You may have to reinstall the OS by doing a restore. The problem could be due to a corruption of a codec registry key in the registry.  You can also try to do a restore of the system for some older dsates and check if this solves the problem. You can also lose some files and applications that you installed after the date chosen for the restoration of the system. It is always better to lose some files rather than ending up losing the receipt of data on the hard drive.

  • Windows Media Player sound works, but not video

I recently had to restore my laptop to an earlier version, because it wouldn't start properly. Now when I try to open the video files from an SD card in Windows Movie Maker, the thumbnail will be clearly visible when I click i to watch the entire video, I get is sound and a black screen. I ran the Fix It Microsoft program and he told me that I have to buy a DVD decoder. This in fact is what I do please help before my laptop ends in two pieces!

You import video files from the SD card
map in Movie Maker for editing purposes?

Have you tried to copy the video files to a
    folder on your hard drive?

What is the format of the video files?

What version of Movie Maker are you running?

I installed Callnote to record Skype sessions, but I found that it was interfering with the audio system so I uninstalled using AppCleaner. However, I have always had a rest of Callnote in the input and output peripheral windows from the Sound System Preferences: How can I get rid of him?

Also (in the spirit of BOGOF - buy one get one free), it's annoying that my startup to open Safari, it starts but does not show a window - I always click on the Safari icon in the Dock. This started to happen with Yosemite, I think; until a window appears automatically. I presume that it does not show because "Hide Safari" is an inalterable permanent choice in the Safari drop-down menu, but why is this so when no other application has this selected permanently?

Don't know about the first part, but for Safari, try going to system preferences/general and uncheck the narrow windows when you exit an application.

  • my sound works fine except when I play a video. When I click on the volume, then mix it bumps on speakers and system sounds, but not when you set windows media player

    Hello

What version of Windows are you using?

This is by design, when you try to adjust the bar its windows media player or WMP or the volume mixer you will not hear the sound of ding.

    Can anyone help?

    Hi Artrek,

What it means that the sound card is properly installed and you don t have yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager?

Hmm generally with each program, you should be able to listen to audio on flash videos I would try an update of Adobe Flash Player. Make sure that you have installed the latest version of this program.

The sound settings, you can check the Windows default audio output device. Make sure that the internal speakers are the default settings.
By the way: If you see this problem with external speakers too?

    Moved from feedback

    Original title: Windows media player.

    Hello

    1. who is the operating system installed on the computer?

2 - is confined to a specific DVD problem?

To resolve this problem, you can try to install the video codec and check if the problem persists.

A codec is a software to compress or decompress a digital media file, such as a song or a video. Windows Media Player and other programs use codecs to play and create digital media files.

A codec can consist of two components: an encoder and a decoder. The encoder performs the compression function (coding) and the decoder performs the decompression function (decoding). Some codecs include both components and some codecs only one of them.
