Windows search can not find my files
Even if I indexed all folders on my computer Windows Search can not find something of my music, my pictures, and my videos folders. I checked if they are indexed and they are. I tried rebuilding the index, but it did not help. Does anyone know what may be the problem?
Problem solved. One of my programs has changed the use of the search bar for "do not search" menu properties taskbar and start, I have no idea why.
PROBLEM SOLVED
I struggled with the same problem for a few hours. Finally, I discovered that:
If you are looking for a word in a file name, then you must start the search string with an asterisk (wildcard character), in the opposite case, Windows will detect nothing. For example, if you are looking for "cyberdyne" in a file name, then you must look for the two "cyberdyne" and "* cyberdyne.
If the word you are looking for is at the beginning of the name of the file, or if it is preceded by a dash or a dot, then Windows Explorer is the file without the asterisk.

It's a weird thing, these files are located on a network drive, but I also tested in a local folder with the same results.
Examples of questions:Folder containing the following filesFS - XP12345.pdfFS - XP54321.txt124234Sample12.PDFIf I where to look for "FS - XP" I'd get both the FS - XP * files as results, but as soon as I add a number to search (only using the letters), for example FS - XP5 I get nothing.Any other combination works and files that begin with the letters or numbers I can get the name of the entire file and it works.Only when it has 'two letters'-'two letters' followed by a number do get no results when you search for the name of the entire file.I hope that makes sense.Thank youClarkThe problematic bit is actually the hyphen, although oddly, there is no block research in all situations. The general Council is when the search text contains a symbol such as the hyphen, place the text between quotes and place ~ = before the quoted text. So ~ = "fs - xp5" would work, but unfortunately this special syntax does not work in areas indexed without specifying the filename property. To limit the search to the file names and also to allow the search successfully indexed areas, enter name: ~ = "fs - xp5.
Some symbols have actually not need quotes, but some do so they are generally advised.

Windows 7 can not find my file?
Windows 7 can not find my file?
The folder is synchronized with Google drive
I could add 'system' of permissions, but this causes permission errorsI is currently seeking 17000 files manually and it's a pain
Any way to get Windows 7 to find 'xp style' folders on the fly without all these stories of cataloguing which causes has other "cannot find' bugs even when
Actually found a solution so for all those who use the Googledrive folder on Windows - you can cut search indexing (uses of data which is not updated on the records of Gdrive) causing Win 7 search "on-the-fly" = a little more slow but even faster that I can read names of 17000 files
Just open your main Gdrive/Windows folder and choose search & Union Options / folders:
Always search file names... CHECK
Index of use which... CHECK

Windows 7 search can't find AppData files
Windows search does not find the files. The search for a zip file (which is stored in C:\Users\ \AppData\Local\Temp
or C:\Documents and Settings\ \AppData\Local\Temp, does not appear. I can navigate the files without any problems.
This is just a simple example, but no functioning research is frustrating our planned deployment of W7 as we debug a request number and other problems.
Is there a way to search by index / the \AppData? This time, I almost 1 000 000 files on the disc (in the areas of 'normal' data) and indexing/search works to find.
The folder \AppData & subfolders are not included in indexed locations.because of the thousands of files that can reside.--Dave N.MS - MVP (Mail)Windows 7 Ultimate 64Get it: http://download.live.com/wlmail"GGStart" wrote in messageNews: * e-mail address is removed from the privacy... *Windows search does not find the files. Director of Windows can not find the file
I made a presentation / film in windows movie maker, and it worked fine. Then when I went to access the movie a month later, all photos in the film are absent, and the Director of windows message can not find the file you want to locate the file... There are a lot of pictures, I don't want to go to each of them... What's happening on why it does not find the photo files now?

Windows XP sp3 can not find a file that I know is there
Windows XP sp3 can not find a file that I know is there. I even copied the file to the desktop, but research still cannot find the file. He may not get indexed. But on a search for *.mp3, it will include this file. I've searched all files and folders, file name or name part and content, but the search is empty.
The reason why I asked is that this *.mp3 IS a 'partial file name.
If the file is an MP3 file (music), I doubt if you could ever find by searching for "contained in the file," then relevant chess is why it was not found using the complete file name or part of the name.
If the file is not hidden, the only other thing I can think is that there is some special characters in the name of the file that is not obvious when you look at it.
For example, there was quite a "Drunk Philly' in 1974 called hit"when will be I see You Again"by the three degrees. Let's say you have decided to appoint an this (3) .mp3 mp3 file. It would be a legal folder name, but a search for 3º.mp3 won't find it. This is because the name of the file, I used the 'degree' (Unicode 00B 0) symbol and the search string uses the symbol "masculine ordinal' (Unicode 00BA). These symbols are almost identical to the nekkid eye (can not use the actual word here), but not to a computer search engine.
Replace any part of the name of the file, except the extension using the * wildcard would make the search works, but if you have used the 'partial' name, includes all who is this character, which could cause the problem.
To test, I suggest renaming the file. See if research there now. If so, rename, go back to what you think it was--but use the keyboard, not copy and paste to get the name of "origin". Search finds now?

Windows 7: search does not find the files that should be. I have indexed directory and *.php included on the list of extensions, but search can't find files for Word searches that I know there are files with these words in them.
If you're frustrated by research (aka Desktop Search), you are not alone. Click the Start button and type find and click the button 'change the way Windows search'. Now click on the Advanced button and select the tab file types scroll down and find your type of file (in your case .php) and make sure the radio button "index properties and the content of the file" is selected for the file type.
Out the form by clicking on the OK button, but do not close the form when you click the Advanced button.
Then, you may need to change the indexing locations. If the folder where your files are located is not known for indexing search, then search is not even bother looking for here (a source of frustration for many users). Maybe your files are located on another drive or partition without the knowledge of the indexing engine. Using the options icon and select/deselect expand, make sure that at least the files of interest are included for the indexed locations. I hope this helps.

Windows Search can not index the A: drive
Do not assign the letter 'A' on a disk partition, because Windows Search does not index the A: drive. I made a Win7 installation on a system with a SSD boot drive and a conventional hard drives.
I did my data to partition the A: drive and moved my files user for this partition. Windows Search could not find anything on this drive until I assigned a different drive letter to the partition.
I know that there are very few machines with floppy drive.
Is always the convention however that readers and B are reserved for floppy drives and will be until there is no more floppy drives on the left.
If you connect a USB external floppy drive on your machine, it is the reader, NOT the D or E or F or any other letter.
Therefore, it is not a good plan to designate any partition on a HARD disk as drive A...
