Windows search on runing vista collapsed

Here's a thread on something siimilar (involving the indexer that is closely related to research) and the same error code.  Solutions are available that appear to have worked during a few ppeople with the problem. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsdesktopsearchhelp/thread/030f45ee-20d8-44a1-b3d0-f44f97601ee6.  Perhaps one of the proposed solutions will work for you as well (but I'll warn you that they are not the simple answers and some require to modify the registry, so don't forget to save before you start working).  I had read the entire thread before you start anything to give you an idea on which solutions are most likely to work best for you.  Here's how to save the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756regstryL.

I hope this helps.  Good luck! Lorien - a - MCSE/MCSA/network + / A +.

Call the manufacturer of your computer.

    1. ask a set of recovery disks. The cost is minimal and it is money well spent.
    2. at the same time, ask to speak to a technician. Ask the person to teach you how to access the recovery of the computer partition and how to use it to restore your computer.

None of the foregoing need by using your product key.

  • Windows search has disappeared from my computer

I can't do searches in outlook or windows explore.

I tried indexing options but it just says that windows search does not run.

I tried control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and features 'turn windows features turn on or off' but there is no sign of windows search.

I also tried re-initialization several times.

    Can you help me?

  • How can I fix windows search in vista sp2?

I have windows vista Home premium sp2.  Windows search does not work.  I am not sure just at the moment where he stopped, but suspect it may have been after the installation of the Vista sp2 on 21/06/2009.  I now use Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 and the absence of Windows Search is originally I am unable to search correctly.

After reading some discussions posted this topic, I checked control panel of indexing see indexing to be no ongoing enforcement (which I believe is correct when Windows Search is installed).  I also found that my C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data file did not have the required subdirectory "Config" or its required files.  So I created a new Config file in the data folder location and pasted there two files that I've learned are necessary for the proper functioning of windows search.  These two files have come the windows directory and stuck in the newly created Config folder.  These two files and their properties are:

    (created 02/11/2006) gathrprm.txt

    Schema.txt (created 02/11/2006)

I checked the value '0' for the 'SetupCompletedSuccessfully' under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Search key.

The history of windows update and install sp2 (KB948465) has successfully installed on 21/06/2009 on the 6th attempt (the first 5 attempts failed).  This computer is up to date on all of the other microsoft updates.

Apart from the problem of windows search, the computer seems to work quickly and correctly, so I prefer not to go through the effort of a complete reinstallation.  I hope that there is a specific fix for the problem of research.

I would be very grateful for any help to solve this problem.

Click OK to terminate the program

I do nothing especially when this happens and the disabling or uninstalling this feature is not an option that I and some of the programs that I use it. She repeats every few minutes, but I'm pretty sure it's because the application restarts whenever you "Finish". I also tried to reinstall it but to no avail. Thanks in advance for any help.

These errors appear when the index database is corrupted, for example during the crash, etc. The solution is, except disabling or removing the search service, reconstruction of the index. Just reinstall will not solve the problem, because that does not remove the corrupted index.

    On XP Pro:

    (1) start 'services.msc' and find Windows Search stop.

My personal advice: check user accounts all records and make sure that the "Application Data" and "Local Settings" directories have their attribute 'Index summary' unchecked, including all files and subfolders. You can avoid many possible future performance issues.

    2) go to c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft and delete the entire directory "Search" (or just rename / move elsewhere).

    (3) close the session log. Index will rebuild, it may take some time, depending on the amount of documents, music, etc. you have. So be patient with harddisk increased temporary activity. Normally it works with a low priority.

On Vista/7 Search index is located in \ProgramData\Microsoft, otherwise,'s done it the same way. Unfortunately, I do not know how to avoid the real alteration. XP seems more inclined to him.

    We are all ONE!

I tried some of the solutions that offered you, but I think what was my problem was caused by the presence of the index on an external hard drive and when the computer has been restarted the drive letter of the USB drive was not the same.  If I remember well, it was a problem that I wasn't yet able to rebuild the index.

I now have the index on my hard C at the level of the root drive.  I was about to point to the other half of a 16 GB flash drive which is also USB, but Windows Vista Home Premium does not only because it appears that are considered removable flash drives, but external USB drives are not presented in this category.

Currently I have about 74 000 items indexed.

I just started using Windows XP - Service Pack 3 (with my lenovo Vista downgrade option).

Whenever I hit Search I get a large "Windows Search" window that I don't understand and find very little practice. I always had success using traditional search (or search companion) and prefer. Whenever I want to search then, I select "Research Assistant", which opens another window.
