  • Win 7: Windows search no longer works from within Windows Explorer, big problem!

Hi all, in the past I have been using Windows 7 search feature and I'm in love. She was very powerful. What I liked in particular has the ability to search to explore: [win key] + F, then you type in your search (as "ext:pdf date: 2010 wonderful" returned all the documents with the extension .pdf changed in 2010 or later and containing the keyword 'wonderful'). VERY another useful feature is the ability to search ANYWHERE on the computer, for example in the records, but also outlook. For example, when I wanted to recover all matters affecting a client (like "boeinggg + body" would mean any document or email on the problems of society and the fuselage of boeinggg;) ("from: condittt" would return all email sent by Mr. Condittt). UNFORTUNATELY, it doesn't work anymore, and I don't understand why. I searched on +-10 hours on various blogs and sites Web + myself, without success. I think I tried everything I could think of. Of course, among other things, I tried to look for a problem with automated tools of Windows, and I also rebuilt the index several times, move it to a different location, try indexing less files, etc etc etc. Research from outlook still works, but it's so slow and not practical to use at all (only the buttons, I prefer keywords). Research in the library always work also, that is to say if I'm in a certain folder and this folder is indexed, so I can search for documents inside as explained above. But my various indexed files are not all on the same tree, so in this way is really painful. I also tried only indexing outlook, he does something, the exact number of items is displayed as 'indexed' I can search and outlook. But still no Explorer - and that's what I want to do. I also tried to uninstall and reinstall search Windows (programs and features, enable or disable, windows searches the windows features). I also tried the 'old way' windows search (programs and features, enable or disable, the indexing service windows features). Of course, I have a valid Windows license file (Windows 7 Professional SP1), to date. My computer is a brand new, more stimulated for laptop Dell Precision (not reinstalled by myself so no Dell * on it). And... I'm repeating myself, but it did not work before! "One day" (I have not noticed exactly when) he has stopped working correctly, at the beginning, I thought that I could survive it but now I know that I really like this feature, I need. If anyone can help, I am really disappointed here. I can hardly re - install windows, because I still don't know the problem, so it would definitely be back. Otherwise, it would be 'just' a matter of 10 hours of work and I would do it, because I really, REALLY need this feature, which in my opinion is the only reason to use outlook today. I could also try the hotline of Dell, but I doubt that they will really help. Thank you very much in advance to the community, I will respond to all suggestions, I will follow all advises reasonable, and I understand what has happened and how to solve similar problems, I will explain in great detail. Bravo Stéphane

    Hello

We are pleased that the issue is resolved.

One of the reasons could be a software conflict. It could also be a malware or a virus.
It could be linked to the corruption of the files of the user account as well.
We know in the future if you have problems with Microsoft Windows.
  • Problem with removal of duplicates in Windows Search.

I have a large collection of files and a lot of them are duplicates with different things on the end as (F) or (G), so I use windows search to find each other and then select all, then delete them so I have all these duplicates. the problem is when I'm looking for (F) for example, it shows the files with (F), but it also shows files with just a f in the name, but not the parentheses. Why is this happening?

It works like a web search engine.  Bing and Google did the same thing when you perform a search.

To search for a specific string, including punctuation, you can type it like this:

    = filename: "(F) '"

I test here, and even if both files have 'F' in the name, the search results return only the one with the (F):

Don't forget that my test is Windows 8, but the Foundation research is still the same under Windows 7 and Vista, so it should always work.

  • Sometimes, when I try to do a Google search, many pop-up windows 'Search the opening' appear. I can't keep typing in my search until I closed all these pop-up windows. How can I stop the EVER arise again?

They are small pop up windows. When I start to enter key words to search for, very often these things pop up and not a single one. A lot of them. Popping each other on the other on the other. I can't enter anything again in the Google search box until I closed all the windows. And, usually, the ones many of them will appear again when I enter my search in the next letter.

This is what it says in the pop up box:

Along the top it says in clear blue margin 'search for opening.

Under the foregoing and in a white box, he said:

    "You have chosen to open.

    [a symbol Windows] search

        which is a: application/json
        from: https//www.google.com

Then on the sketch of an inner box, it reads "that should Firefox do with this file?" and it gives the following options:

        Open with ["Browse" button]
        DownThemAll!
Save File [This one is checked as the default]

Then a check box with the text next to it: "cela automatically for files like this in the future.

Under this is a button 'OK' which is in gray and cannot be controlled and one button 'Cancel' which may be. I have never done but used the 'X' at the top right of the box to close this window.

Now I see that I have limited options for "Happen" for the frequency. It is not every time that Firefox is open, but it is MUCH more common than 'a few times a week'. More like several times a day.

I erased the Max, disabled all extensions and then restarted my computer. I tried to raise the problem with the Google search and it didn't happen (yet). I then re-enabled only the modules that really make me more easy life on the net, and once again, the problem has not (yet) surface.

I don't the tag as resolved for a few more days to be sure it is resolved.

Thanks for the help! I hope it's resolved now.

  • Satellite Pro A300 - I get the 'Windows search' if I left click on any folder

I just bought a Satellite Pro A300 and it downgraded to Windows XP SP3.

When I click the icon of any folder on my hard drive I got the "Windows Search" window instead of the folder. When I right click on any folder icon, the first item on the menu (in bold) is "search".

How can I change the order of these items in menu so as 'Open' is the first element?

Delete (Control Panel Add / Remove Programs) the installation of Windows Search without affecting any software I have loaded?

Looking for Windows installation installed the likely cause of my problem?

    Thank you

    Murray

    Just solved my problem:

    1. the order of the items in the context menu of files can be changed by updating actions for file types specified in the Folder Options Menu. Select Folder Options + of + the + Tools + menu of any folder, select + File Types + and scroll to the bottom for * file *. Click on * advanced * then * New * and add * open * with * Explorer * as the program to use. Click on * OK * and * Close * and bingo! Appears in the order of the menu shortcut in XP is open before you search, but in XP Pro followed research of Open / Explore.

    2. the utility Windows search can be deleted without problem despite the warning launched - Microsoft Web site indicates the warning is simply a generic warning and it is highly unlikely that removal will affect all software installed since the loading search utility.

    3. the Windows Search utility is NOT the cause of this problem.

Trust that the other could save hours of research that I had to do to find this solution...

I do nothing especially when this happens and the disabling or uninstalling this feature is not an option that I and some of the programs that I use it. She repeats every few minutes, but I'm pretty sure it's because the application restarts whenever you "Finish". I also tried to reinstall it but to no avail. Thanks in advance for any help.

These errors appear when the index database is corrupted, for example during the crash, etc. The solution is, except disabling or removing the search service, reconstruction of the index. Just reinstall will not solve the problem, because that does not remove the corrupted index.

    On XP Pro:

    (1) start 'services.msc' and find Windows Search stop.

My personal advice: check user accounts all records and make sure that the "Application Data" and "Local Settings" directories have their attribute 'Index summary' unchecked, including all files and subfolders. You can avoid many possible future performance issues.

    2) go to c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft and delete the entire directory "Search" (or just rename / move elsewhere).

    (3) close the session log. Index will rebuild, it may take some time, depending on the amount of documents, music, etc. you have. So be patient with harddisk increased temporary activity. Normally it works with a low priority.

On Vista/7 Search index is located in \ProgramData\Microsoft, otherwise,'s done it the same way. Unfortunately, I do not know how to avoid the real alteration. XP seems more inclined to him.
