Windows server 2008, converted to a Dynamic Volume does not start

Hello

I'm running the v5.1 free eSXI hypervisor. In order to increase the size of my boot partition I changed it to a dynamic volume. When I rebooted the machine would not start "no boot device." I installed it with the controller SCSI Paravirtual. I started a Windows Server installation CD to try to 'fix' the server, but even with drivers manually Paravirtual he does not see the windows operating system. Can I start from scratch or y at - it a hope?

Thanks a lot for your suggestions in advance.

OK I solved this. Here are the steps I took in case someone has this problem:

I exported the VMachine to a model of the FVO on my local PC. I used 'WinImage' to convert this VHD image that I could ride in VirtualBox (only because I am familiar with it). I hit F12 in VirtualBox (after the installation of a Windows Server CD in the machine) who started Windows Server on the CD and allowed me to run the recovery command prompt. I guess conversion scratched somehow 'dynamic' volumes, because they might be considered now. I ran:

Bootrec /fixmbr

Bootrec /fixboot

Bootrec /rebuildbcd and brought back the operating system in the boot list

> restart

For windows first time tried to start, but I'm a BSOD so I thought it was just a mistake of the storage controller. I used WinImage to convert a vmdk which I was able to boot into VMware Workstation by modifying to 'IDE '.

Successful start!... and then just "transferred" to the ESXi Hypervisor of VMworkstation after the have attached to the host server.

    Hey, Slugger,

New installation leaves you a better overall installation,

    Installation custom own steps

You can use a Full Windows 7 or upgrade disk to do a custom clean install. This will remove all of your programs, but you can save your files and settings on an external storage before doing so. You will need to reinstall all your programs after installing Windows 7. Here are the steps:

    1. start Windows Upgrade Advisor to see if there are known problems that might affect installation and if you can install the 32-bit or the 64 bit version of Windows 7.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/downloads/Upgrade-Advisor

2 back up your files and settings. To avoid losing everything that you will need to save copies of all files, photos and other information that you want to keep an external storage device. Windows Easy Transfer is a free tool allows you to copy your files (but not programs) from your PC and then transfer them back after you have installed Windows 7. If you don't want to use Windows Easy Transfer, you can copy the files you want to keep on a USB stick or CD/DVD.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/Windows-easy-transfer

    3. find the discs original installation and license/product keys associated to programs currently on your computer because you will have to manually reinstall your programs after installing Windows 7. Depending on what you have installed, you may be able to download programs from the Internet.

    4. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in your PC. When asked "which type of installation you want. Click on "Custom (advanced)." Note: 32 to 64-bit requires restart and boot from the DVD.

    5. when Windows 7 is installed, you can use Windows Easy Transfer (or a different backup method you used) to restore your files & settings and use your installation disks to reinstall all your programs. Then you're done - take advantage of Windows 7.

Steps 2, 3and 4 are recommended for Dell not offering systems not Windows 7 installed at the factory. Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to check that all of your software and computer components are ready for Windows 7. This application will scan your system and make recommendations on what to do before the upgrade to Windows 7.

Q15. If I want to use the bits from a previous version or edition, what are my options?

If you have Windows Server Datacenter edition 2012, you will have the right to downgrade your bits any earlier version or lower edition. If you have Windows Server 2012 Standard edition, you have the right to downgrade your forests to any previous version of Enterprise, Standard or Essentials editions.

The ability to execute downgrade bits do not change licensing or support the terms in which you use the product; rights of the purchased product (Windows Server 2012) will apply. This means that the license will continue to wear two physical processors and virtualization of the rights do not change.

  • Oracle 10.1.0.4 on Windows Server 2008 64 bit Standard

    Hello

For purposes of migratiion, we would need to install Oracle 10.1.4.0 on a Windows Server 2008 64 bit Standard and then update to 11 g.
We forced installation Oracle 10.2.0.4 on a Windows Server 2008 64-bit Standard, but we are not safe for 10.1.0.4.

Given that we do not have this version of the software to try it and we are looking for it, is it possible to install Oracle 10.1.4.0 on a Windows Server 2008 64 bit Standard?

Could you point me to a document referring to Oracle versions compatibility with Windows Server 2008?

    Thank you

At MOS, click the Certificates tab, and then enter the database in the first menu drop-down and select the RDBMS. Then enter the relevant information in other blocks, and then you will see the database Oracle 10.1.0.4.0 is not certified for Microsoft Windows x 64 (64-bit) 2008 R2

Certification is a little stricter than the support, but extended support ended in January.      REMINDER: First Support for Oracle Database 10.1 ends January 2009 [761713.1 ID]

There is always a lifetime support, but your case shows how useful that can be.

  • 11.1 workstation, Windows 7 SP1 x 64, EFI, the CD-ROM does not start

Is Windows 7 x 64 supported as an EFI guest OS in my computer with hardware 11.1 virtual v11?

I recently upgraded from Workstation v9 to v11.1.0 build-2496824 under my Windows 7 SP1 x 64 machine and tried to create a new guest Windows 7 support EFI and the installation media does not start to get the Setup will.

The same boot on any BIOS type invited media and I tried Windows 7 and Windows 7 with SP1 integrated all directly from Microsoft, not custom ISOs and none of them will work under EFI, but will work under BIOS.  In the same way 2008 and 2008 R2 media starts if EFI is used.

EFI VMs can boot media of Windows 8 and successfully towards the top (2012 etc.) but not the previous generation of operating system.

I tried a few different things, such as starting the ISO from a disk share and local network.

I tried all 3 variants of the dvd/cdrom: SATA, SCSI, IDE, including the legacy mode which I don't think that is really work because it is not verified when I go back to change the setting.

I tried to install from the EFI shell initialization, but the media are not yet mounted under blk0 so I can't go any further.

My boot device options are all configured properly and tried to force the virtual cdrom boot at startup without success.

I also tried going through the physical CD-ROM mapping rather than the ISO file and not luck.

My Setup seems to be supported, however the matrix of interoperability and compatibility points vs EFI BIOS support.  I know that Windows 7 supports UEFI then it should work and I've seen posts where people have deployed it successfully under different versions of workstation using the EFI emulation.

I also tried with hardware virtual v10

Both typical and custom installation modes recognize media but can't can at start up.

Should I do the start method USB with a sort of generation of personalized media?

Here is an excerpt from the log file where it seems just that it's not picking up on startup even though we clearly see the ISO it:

I just want to know if it is actually supported and if someone else has this problem there.

It was about 3.5 GB but I just downloaded a new copy on the site MS VL and apparently boot into EFI now.  Don't know how the ISO precedent (and other ISOs 2008) would work under BIOS but not EFI but it's good enough for me.

Thanks to confirm support of the scenario mentioned however, I had thoughts seconds on this subject.
