Windows Server 2008 R2 comments: swap file problem

I have several guests Windiows Server 2008 R2.

What is the best way to rate, and then place the Windows swap file?

For the physical Windows servers, many people suggest to allocate a fixed size page file whose size is 1.5 times the RAM: does make sense for virtual machines hosted as well?

Is there a best practice or guideline to refer to?

As noted by A.P. the 1.5 x that RAM is really just an arbitrary number someone at Microsoft came at a time with and then walked into best practices with no real valid reason.

However, it could be a few things to consider:

Leave for the managed system is the easiest way, but could lead to a greater fragmentation of your C: drive.

If the definition of a fixed size you should really consider to approve how much space you like Windows to be able to push in the pagefile with an internal memory. Usually if the machine Windows have a decent amount of RAM and page file usage is quite low.

If adding an another virtual hard disk to the virtual computer and put the pagefile.sys on which you have a little more complex configuration, but could achieve savings if possible to exclude that drive in your backup tool and replication VM settings (if used). You could also possible to put all the files of comments VM on a sort of thin provisioned LUNS/NFS because it consumes a lot of space, but be used very little.

  • D20 problem of configuration of Windows Server 2008 R2 / 1 x SATA HD / 4 x SATA SSD

    Hi all

I have a Mod D20. 4155 and want to use next to it is by default SATA HDD SATA SSD four disks of virtual machines. Windows Server 2008 R2 will be the OS with the use of its Hyper-V features.

I have Aproblem with detection of drives in the configuration of the operating system. All 5 disks are visible in the Marvell controller BIOS setup. It is possible to configure a RAID on the SSD, etc, but I don't "see" any disk in the configuration of the operating system. I tried to load additional drivers in the part of the Setup utility GUI, but it did not work. I tried with the driver Marcell SAS and Intel Matrix driver, both located at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/migr-72280.html.

Suggestions for the BIOS of the PC / BIOS Marvell / OS installation configurations?

    Best regards, Chrischmi

    Hi all

I found the solution myself. After detection, the default drive is a SATA drive (and), I got the idea to test it on the Intel SATA controller. It was possible to install the spirit of the machine the disks attached to the Intel controller. After installation, I went to Device Manager and installed the driver of Lenovo Marvell, rekindled the Marvell controller disk and started the. Successfully. Yes!

On my way to the solution, I had another problem: in the setup of Windows GUI part, I got an error of 0 x 80300001 with Lenovo's Intel SATA driver. It was not possible to install windows Server on the SATA drive with reason0x80300001. very helpful post, Microsoft! (-) I decided to use the default Microsoft for the Intel SATA controller driver after a reboot. Installer executed well, but ended with an error 0 x 80070017 and problems of copy of (unknown) files. The solution (found after a few hours...) was to burn a new installation of Windows Server DVD. I don't want to talk about it anymore...

  • Pavilion p6110t CTO Desktop: drivers for Windows Server 2008 and HARD drive problems

Recently, I had the hard drive with my OS failure. After replacing the hard drive and reinstall windows server 2008, I seem to have encountered some problems with drivers.  After insalling Windows, I had 3 items in my device manager that not have installed correctly. I could get the driver for the LAN port to work, but I did not get the driver to "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" and "SM Bus controller". After a little research, I believe that the graphics card is a Radeon HD4350. With this information, I still have been unable to toinstlal the correct drivers or the other of these elements. I tried several drivers listed on the support page of the drivers on the HP website, but all fo return them the same error of not finding the right operating system. The link to the driver, I used initially on my previous installation seems is no longer valid.

Also, I can't access two additoinal hard disks (sata connected). They were used with the previous installation of windows without any problem. They appear in the Device Manager but do not show in my computer. A removable disk appears that I don't know what it is. Previously I used the software to mirror one of the disks on the other in order to avoid the loss of data if a disk fails. Is one of the above players with not be able to access the drives causing the problem or the software used before the problem?

Any help on these questions is greatly appreciated.

    Ok.

I can't help you with the readers then.  It is out of my area of knowledge.  If they are healthy and active in the disk management utility, then that's all that I know these should be reported.

    As for the graphics drivers...

Download and install this free utility for files.

    http://www.7-zip.org/

After installing 7 - zip, right-click on the graphic driver file and select 7 - zip from the list of options.

Choose 7-zip to extract to: and leave it to unzip the file in a folder.  I have it extracted the file name of the file.

Then just follow the rest of my instructions to install the driver.

Of course that you you first go to where 7 - zip extract the folder and continue from there.

  • PowerEdge 2600 and Windows Server 2008 R2 installation problem

    Hello.

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2600 server. Here is the configuration:

    BIOS version: A14

    2 x Intel Xeon 2800 MHz 533 MHz, 512 k (SL6VN)

    4 x 1 GB of RAM

    2 x 146 GB (IBM-IC35L146UCDY10-0) in RAID1

    6 x 147 Gb (Fujitsu MAP3147NC) in a RAID5 configuration

Firmware for the PERC 4/Di 2.52D

It has worked well during the installation of Windows Server 2000. But now I need to install Windows Server 2008 R2.

Here's the problem: when I boot server to Windows Server 2008 R2 installation DVD, it starts to load the files and after a few minutes shows an error (I copy the exact error number) who said he's trying to run the 64-bit application, but unfortunately, this processor does not support 64-bit applications.

I was able to find a download for Windows 2008 x 64 on the page Support of Dell PowerEdge 2600. This means that you can install an operating system 64-bit on this PE 2600, is it not?

I know that Windows Server 2008 x 64 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are different operating systems, but 64-bit is always 64 - bit.

Also, I know that Intel Xeon 2800 MHz 533 MHz 512 kb (SL6VN) is a 32-bit processor, but if it was delivered with these processors, and there are downloads for 64-bit operating systems exist, it should be able to install these operating systems.

Please tell us how can I install Windows Server 2008 R2 on the PowerEdge 2600.

    Thanks in advance.

The list 2008 x 64 in the list of OS for the 2600 is clearly a typographical error / support/web content team:

You pay for 2008 x 86 as the latest OS on 2600... or get a newer server (starting with the 8th generation of servers as the PE 2800) to operate 2008R2.

"2008R2 is a 64-bit operating system that is not as forgiving as 2008 x 64 on the execution of threads of 16 bits."

16-bit applications are not supported in 64-bit operating systems:

  • Windows file sharing - a lot of bandwidth is consumed on ports 137, 138, 445 domain windows server 2008

    Hello

I have observed this for a few months now on my windows Server 2008 domain (all my clients are windows 7) and it drives me crazy.  My wireless nodes #1 bandwidth consumption is taken by 'Windows file shaing' on ports 137, 138, and 445.  I tried to pull the bandwidth on these ports on all of my users wireless using the wireless controller, then the claim of the user than even a small file as 100 MB ' would take hours to download.  If windows 7 OS is too talkative, I prefer to go back to windows XP?

What is the solution of my problem, I need to have my users to upload files and at the same time be fair with my bandwidth that does all my work of nodes and servers without really hard wire.  Help please.

"Note: someday open a session:"windows file sharing"takes about 10 GB of bandwidth ' and sometimes 5 GB"

It is important to ensure that you are closing the vApp and not the virtual machine under the vApp.  If you just stop the virtual machine, you will get the behavior you describe.

  • VMware fusion 3 - adjustment to comments does not work with Windows Server 2008

I use 3 Fusion with existing image from Fusion 2.x on Windows Server 2008. After the upgrade to Fusiion 3 (I upgraded VMware tools (I've also tried their uninstall and reinstall) too) the guest operating system does not change the resolution when resizing the window. It does not change the resolution if/when I goes into full screen mode. I have an 'exclamation' mark in Device Manager and it says that "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) ». I tried with and without 3D acceleration enabled.

WS2008 is where I spend most of my time in fusion, I hope that this can be solved somehow (a config directive file or something perhaps?)?

    Thank you

    Miha.

He had a similar position and the problem is specific to the version of the virtual machine virtual material.

Can upgrade you your VM hardware version? (Fusion UI have probably an option present as 'version Upgrade VM HW'... cannot check now but 90% sure about that.)

    Thank you.

  • Problems to use Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit on ESX 3.5 U3

I am having some problems with Windows Server 2008 R2.

I was charged with the creation of 2 new Windows Server 2008 R2 servers. We have ESX 3.5 Update3. I found that in my attempts to put an address static IP in the virtual machine, the system crashes. If I leave the adapter to DHCP, it seems to work longer, but this obviously doesn't work. Just to be in the IP menu type in IP (do not hit OK or apply again) will cause the console screen lock.

I found that since the release of ESX 3.5 U4 notes:

x 64 versions of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 operating systems require Microsoft hotfix

x 64 versions of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 without Microsoft hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950772 operating systems have a situation where the guest operating system is not responding and returns the following error:

MONITOR of PANIC: vcpu-3: SAY vmcore/vmm/cpu/segment.c:430

I was not able to find the error code in my ESX systems, so I can't confirm that I see the same question. I moved the virtual machine of 4 different hosts in the same cluster with the same results.

Here are the best true - I built the virtual machine from scratch and configured 2 GB RAM, 1vCPU and 40 GB slim HDD put into service. With no OS, I cloned this config for the 2nd of 2 servers that I need to install. I traced the two VM 2008 R2 ISO we have on our Image data store. Both installed at the same time. Given their Unique IP and Machine names and joined them in the field. Once that ended, I migrated my cluster Corp Server2 to my cluster off site for DR purposes. The only change in config is the VLAN on the remote cluster.

The two systems worked very well. As I returned to server 1 to start install application - lock. Reboot, login and lock. This is where I started to move the virtual machine to other hosts of the local cluster. I have found no point in troubleshooting, I'll just clone server 2. I deleted the name of the Server1 computer. Off of Server2, cloned it more to the local cluster. I then started without the NIC on so I could change the name of the computer, IP and add to the domain. This seemed to go well, I have been brought back online and start installing the application. Until I'm at the point of launch the installer app - lock.

2 on the remote cluster server works smoothly. I have validated the ESX host on all host versions to make sure I was in the same field of play on both sides - check. No other Server 2008 seems to have this problem.

I will delete and rebuild 1 server from scratch, but I don't see how I can do a clean install of ISO any different for the same hardware and best results.

I checked the link to the fix for MS, but article reference Server 2003...

Is there something that I am on?

Addendum:-I find it strange that although I have 2008 R2 installed, the drop down menu to comments what OS in VM config allows only to 2008 (64-bit) for the selection nearest you. If you look at the field Server guest operating system in a nutshell, it says that NT 4.0 is installed. Is this just a problem of display text with this version, or a cause for concern? I found everything all the R2 are displayed as NT4 in the Summary tab.

Corrections - it seems Server2 locks as well at the opening of the Server Manager window - I can see the "collection of data...» "downstairs. I had also opened the work center & gt; Properties window on top of the Server Manager window. VM has ceased.

Addendum - I found that R2 the boot safe mode with networking to adjust the TCP/IP offload to disabled results in a locked VM when in network properties.

2008 R2 is not on the official list of guests supported, and others have reported problems with it as well.
