Windows Server License Activation Req

Hi people,

I'm new to this bear so please with me.

I converted a file of acronis backup (it was a picture of one of my dell OEM windows 2003 servers) to a file of vmware 2.0 server.

When I run the virtual disk I was invited with the image to activate windows - any ideas why?

Thanks for the help

You can set the drive of CD-ROM of the virtual machine to connect to a physical drive or an ISO.  When you start, when you see the VMWare start screen, press ESC (just once!) and you will get the start menu.   If you press F2, you can go into the BIOS of the virtual machine and change the boot order.

If the virtual machine start too quickly, add the following lines to your VMX file.  (I think they're working to Server2.  "Correct me if I'm wrong.)

bios.bootDelay = "5000".

bios.forceSetupOnce = 'TRUE '.

The first line is paused the boot for 5 seconds, which should be long enough so that you press ESC or F2.  The second line is optional.  It forces the virtual machine to go into the BIOS at the next startup.  In this way, you can change the boot order.

  • Windows 7 license activation

We start using Windows 7 Professional in our view environment 4.6. Effort will be Win 7 VMs as linked clones. We use a Microsoft Volume License (MS Select without SA for now, but will move to select more). My question is how are my licenses counted on the Microsoft side whenever I have reconstruct my linked clone pool. For example, lets say I have 20 licenses of Windows 7 and I'm building a pool of cloning related to 20 mV. If I recompose the MS pool sees me trying to use another 20 licenses or original activation will stick. What is the best practice here to manage the licenses of Windows 7 and related clones. Thanks in advance.

    Yes, you are right.

    See this screenshot of Microsoft.

    Number of activations Cache

To follow the activation threshold, the KMS host keeps a record of KMS client computers that require activation. The KMS host gives each KMS client computer ID (CMID) client machine designation and the KMS host records each CMID in a table. Each activation request remains in the table for 30 days. When a client renews its activation, the cached CMID is removed from the table, a new record is created, and the 30-day period begins again. If a KMS client computer does not renew its activation within 30 days, the KMS host removes the CMID of the table and reduces the number of activations.

The KMS host is cached twice the number of CMIDs that require KMS clients in order to ensure that the CMID County does not drop below the activation threshold. For example, on a network with client computers running Windows 7, the KMS activation threshold is 25, then KMS host puts caches the CMIDs of the last 50 activations. The KMS for Windows Server 2008 R2 activation threshold is 5. A KMS host that is contacted only by client computers KMS running Windows Server 2008 R2 would be to cache the most recent CMIDs 10. If a client computer running Windows 7 later comes into contact with this KMS host, KMS increases the size of the cache to 50 to accommodate the higher threshold. KMS never reduced the size of the cache.

KMS does not limit the number of machines that are activated, the FAQ Post indicates that you can use the same key to cover several agreements and activate these machines with the only key. You don't have to add licenses, since it does not limit in KMS.

    Hope that clarifies.

  • What Windows Server license is good for us?

    Hello

We try to create an environment which is mainly virtual and use thin clients. The idea is to have a server that runs applications virtually to a maximum of 20 users at the same time. I'm not sure that understand the Web site license options. What would be a good setup for this? Which version of Windows Server do we need to install to allow about 20 users to virtually of connection and use the different applications?

FYI: We have software like Autocad CAD.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

  • VMware + Microsoft Windows Server licenses

    Hi guys

I have some doubts about licensing Windows Server using VMware HyperVisor.

We currently have a couple of licenses of Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and we are deploying a new server.

It is a server with two nuclei which will run VMware HyperVisor with 5-6, give or take a machine.

How does the licensing work? What I do need one license per virtual machine running?

    Thanks in advance

In my case, I have a server (two CPUS) running VMware ESXi. I want to be like 5-6 machines running at the same time. So, I only need 3 Microsoft Windows Server 2012 model R2. Right?

    That's right!

Regarding power off machines, licenses apply? For example, I have a few VMware Machines powered off tension, but ready to be marketed (maximum of 6 at the same time). Can I do this?

License only affects "instances running", so the answer to your last question is Yes!

  • Windows Server licenses

I've read up and there see mixed responses in the nets.  90 days by vMotion has been lifted?  Try to understand which edition of license do I need to buy to be on the graces of gourmand, yet good Microsofts...

«"RParker wrote: I guess I was mistaken, everything CAN be virtualized"»

This document relates to W2K8 R2 pages on ms.com.  Note that the 90 day limit has not struck out for Windows.

    http://download.Microsoft.com/download/6/9/5/695BA00D-C790-4C90-813A-F10539D97991/Application_Server_License_Mobility_VL_Brief_Nov_2008.docx

This is accomplished by allowing customers to reassign licenses freely between servers in a server farm. The changes apply to software licenses for some applications server and all the external connector (EC) licenses. In these cases, the limitation in the short term (90 days or less) reallocation of license is removed. This change does not apply to software for the Windows Server operating system licenses, CALs Client (CAL), subscription (PCAS), device Subscription Licenses (DSL) user licenses, the module management Licenses (MLs) or subscription licenses (add-on SLs). This change applies only to licenses acquired under a Volume Licensing program. It does not apply to licenses purchased by other sources of retail sales.

This document sets out the prohibition of movement of short duration (less than 90 days) - http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/C/A/FCAB58A9-CCAD-4E0A-A673-88A5EE74E2CC/Licensing_Microsoft_Server_Products_Virtual_Environments.docx.

As I read it, if I'm moving Windows then I need a license for each physical host (be it standard, ent or DC).  Products such as SQL / Exchange can be moved at any time as long as the currently running instance is licensed (i.e. the license follows the virtual machine and is not bound to a host).

  • Windows XP license activation

I try to activate a version of Windows XP on a virtual machine created recently of an old machine that we have here before the asset being disarmed. Unfortunately, when you try to run the virtual machine, we are facing a window to activate product, for which the product key auto-remplit. The product key, however, is labeled not allowed.

I tried tirelessly to communicate with support staff of Microsoft who after the mention of "XP", do not hesitate to cut me and reject any statement that I do, however, it is a product we paid for, so as a result we have the right to install this license where we please provide that we stick to licensing agreements. The license will not be used at the same time.

If you like, would be a way to have this license authorized or authenticated, be put in place, so we can use this virtual machine.

  • VMware View 5.3.1 and functional level Windows 2012 R2 Active Directory

    Hello

    As I read in https://www.vmware.com/support/view53/doc/horizon-view-531-release-notes.html

VMware View Horizon does not support the Windows Server 2012 Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) domain functional level. You can use Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 AD DS with Horizon of VMware View domain functional levels.

Does this mean I can install VMware View 5.3.1 in an environment with Win 2012 R2 AD set to Win 2003/2008/2008 R2 functional level?

    It is a facility supported?

    Kind regards

Does this mean I can install VMware View 5.3.1 in an environment with Win 2012 R2 AD set to Win 2003/2008/2008 R2 functional level?

    Yes that's correct.

  • 2012 Downgrade Server license

Hi, I found out recently that I was managing fault of the vm windows server licenses.  So im trying to get a better understanding of things

I think I have a better grip of things except for server how things 2008 2012 decommissioning effects.

To give an example, I have a project for a client entry, it is a small project of vmware

The plan is to have 2 physical server running vmware eseentials more.

They will need 4 2012 Windows server Vm and Windows 2008 32-bit Vm 2

I want to be able to vmotion servers if you need from one to the other, so I will need licenses windows on both servers.

So I figure I will need 3 Standard Windows 2012 per physical server so 6 total licenses

Windows 2012 Standard license gives you the ability to have 2 vm.  When I go down one of the licenses for 2008 server, im assuming im may 2 2008 Vm for a license, is - that correct?

Or he return to the old 2008 license where you where only allowed 1 2008 vm by standard license?

    Thank you

    Mike

MS license is not very easy, but should help the following guides:

Q15 should answer your question about the downgrade rights.

The ability to execute downgrade bits do not change licensing or support the terms in which you use the product; rights of the purchased product (Windows Server 2012) will apply. ...
