Windows SQL Server 2005 authentication
Hi allI have a situation whereby I want to authenticate a user of the application to the SQL Server 2005 database with my ColdFusion 8.0.1 application. I have the following configuration:
Server SQL Authentication Mode: mixed
ColdFusion Service account: DOMAIN\ColdFusion
DOMAIN\ColdFusion windows account has access to SQL Server and the database (database role 'public' - low privs)
DSN configured in CF using any user name/pwd - Use Windows authentication - works fine, the connection is OK
IIS 6 (Windows 2003 R2) configured to use integrated security
What I want to do is to have the CF and IIS request essentially "pass by" connection to the domain of the remote user (eg. DOMAIN\JBloggs) and have the application executes all SQL queries by using the credentials of that user, not the credentials of the domain account CF. I want to authenticate based on remote domain user, not the user who is running the ColdFusion server. Is this possible? I can see the user id of the remote user's domain in the CGI. REMOTE_AUTH (or $remote_user@-part or whatever it is) but variable, CGI how can I IIS and CF pass this throgh value to SQL Server 2005 for use qith queries?
Any help is appreciated.
Ken,
That's what I thought. I also looked into different blogs, forums, websites and so on dedicated to Flex/ColdFusion and I think that the best solution will be to use setRemoteCredentials() Flex function and functionality of cflogin/cfloginuser ColdFusion in a way. I'll work on it (unless you have the best options).
Thanks for the info.

Hi BarbE52,
1. you receive messages or error codes?
2. have you tried to install the update manually?
Method 1:
You can read the following article and try to reset the Windows Update components and check.
How to reset the Windows Update components?
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058
Method 2:
You can try to download and install the standalone update package.
a. download the update from the Microsoft Download Center:
http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/en/
Also check out the link:
How to obtain the latest service pack for SQL Server 2005
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/913089
b. double-click on the downloaded file.
c. you can either click Run to start the installation or you can click on save and save it on the desktop and run the installation once the update is completely downloaded.
Hope this information is useful.

update of sql server 2005 service pack 3 error code 6D9E Windows update security does not accept the update
Hey lasdj,
Thanks for posting in the Microsoft answers site!
If you receive Windows Update error 6d9e while installing SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 by using Windows Update, it means that the installation folders and directories are compressed or encrypted.
To fix this problem, make sure the folder locations where you are installing the service pack to aren't compressed or encrypted, or specify a different folder and then run Windows Update again.
Therefore, remove the compression of the DATA directory and run together to the top again.
Remove compression from the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server folder and see if you are able to install the updates without any problem.
See the links below for more details:

Hi RTsheba,
Your computer is on the field? If so, you probably haven't privileges to download and install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706)
In most cases, these errors are caused by temporary problems caused by very slight interruptions in communications between the computer to update and the update to download. These questions are usually self-healing. So, before you try the troubleshooting, I suggest you follow the suggestions below.
Suggestion 1:
Temporarily disable all security software and try to download the update. Follow the steps mentioned below
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software
Note: Allow all security software after downloading and installing the update.
Windows update General troubleshooting
The following describes how do to stop the services related to the update of Windows, rename system folders, save the associated DLL files and then restart the services mentioned previously. This diagnosis is generally applied to all Windows Update related issues.
Suggestion 2:
Stop Windows Update services
1. click on start, click principally made programs, accessories, right-click on command prompt and select run as administrator.
2. If you receive a user account control notification simply click on continue.
3. at the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each command.
net stop wuauserv
net stop bitsnet stop cryptsvc
4 Please, do not close the command prompt window.
Proposal 3:
Rename Windows Update records
1. at the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each command:
2 ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 Catroot2.old
3 ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
4 Please, do not close the command prompt window.

I'm Zenith one 733F error Code when I try to install the latest Windows Vista Update, which is an update to SQL Server 2005 (Service Pack 2 KB970895). This update has failed several times now.
I followed the advice given in a separate post in this forum at Ramer49 to perform a selective startup with msconfig to try to run the update with all Microsoft Services disabled. This does not solve the problem.
I spent reviewing the logfile under C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Hotfix\SQL9_Hotfix_KB970895_sqlrun_sql.msp.log. The problem highlighted is that the Services of Services SQL2005 database program did not start. Here is an excerpt from the log file...

For more information, see theI tried to run the problem file (SQL Server MSSMLBIZ) directly by using the Windows administrative tool, but the file does not seem to start successfully. Update for Windows XP (KB2718704) and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 4 (KB2463332) will BE WITHOUT INSTALLATION
Please answer each of the following [admittedly tedious] diagnostic questions in a numbered list type in your very next answer (no need to quote this post):
1. What is the full name of your application or the installed antivirus security suite and when (date about) is your subscription current expires? What (other than Defender) anti-spyware applications are installed? What third-party firewall (if applicable)?
2 a Norton or McAfee application ALREADY installed on the computer?
3. do you have a free trial Norton or a test of free McAfee [CHOOSE ONE ANSWER] come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (No matter if you have never used or activated).
4. open Add/Remove Programs and make sure that Show updates at the top is checked (and leave it checked); then select the name in the box sort by on the right. Now do scroll down & tell me if ALL the other updates following up-to-date are listed?
(a) KB2676562,262, KB2686509 & KB2695962KB2659;
(b) KB2675157, KB2653956 & KB2621440;

I use Windows Vista and that you need to download SQL Server 2005 Express Service Pack 4. I get an error code 64 C help, please.
Hello
I suggest you to try the steps below and check if it helps.
Method 1: Try to reset components to update Windows from the following link, which would help you to install the updates of windows. http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058
Method 2: If the problem persists, then try to set up your computer in a clean boot state, and check to see if the same problem happens.
By setting your boot system minimum state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem.
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135Note: After the boot minimum troubleshooting step, follow step 7 in the link provided to return the computer to a Normal startup mode.
Method 3: Also try to install the updates manually from the link below.

Original title: Windows Update Failed - need help
Vista 32 Ultimate with all updates, until this one: update Windows failed: error 0 x 80070643 for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 4 (KB2463332). Update has failed repeatedly. I tried to restart, remove the update (even by deleting the file so it would download it again) and install again. Nothing has worked. Error 80070643. Since it is not Office 2003, the error seems to mean a problem with the Windows .NET framework. Don't know what that means.
Looking at KB976982, I tried to fix MSI software update registration corruption issues (whatever that means) by running the automated Fix It by KB971187. Restarted, I tried Windows Update again. Still didn't update.
Then, I waited two days and tried again. Even that did not help.
I tried bypassing Windows Update simply by downloading and then run the file SQLEXPR32.exe from Microsoft downloads. Did not work at all. I then tried to run it as an administrator (even if it was already an administrator account, with no other account on this computer at all). He started to run and then gave me the following error message: unable to run the SQL Server System Configuration Checker due configulation WMI on the computer. Error: 70347 (0x112cb).
Now I'm really confused. On the one hand, 80070643 means I probably repair the .NET framework, which certainly, I hate to do because I need several versions of the .NET framework first uninstall and then try to install the compmonents, and I'm afraid something would go wrong.
On the other hand, the 70347 (0x112cb) error message seems to indicate the problem is completely different and has to do with WMI, which probably has to do with permissions and I have no idea how to solve this problem. (And why it all of a sudden would be any problem with permissions?) This computer is not on a corporate network and has only one user account, the administrative account). I have looked at Services and Applications in computer management, where there are WMI control, but nothing shown that I can possibly change and not the SQL Server Configuration Manager under it, which doesn't seem to have much either.
Help! Please...
And now I also tried to fix it, just in case where, the .NET framework (Panel > programs and features > Microsift.NET framework Client profile 4 > uninstall/change > fix it), and the Windows Update tried again (including reboot). Still no. Everything I try, it is not to do nothing, pardon my language. People smarter than me, pleasehelp!
