Windows thinks that my DVD drive is a floppy drive

I've had my computer for almost 3 years now without problems and now my computer decided that my dvd drive is a floppy drive. I have no floppy drive in this computer.

I am running windows vista ultimate, 32 bit. My dvd player is an Asus - model unknown, bought 3 years ago

Device Manager can't find the drive, but does not have a floppy drive

->, I uninstalled the floppy drive he sees and has attempted to use the scan for hardware, but it cannot find the diskette again. Tried to restore the computer by using the system restore, which did not work. The player turns on and turn when I put a disc in but nothing and does not pop up in my computer (which only shows my hard drive and a non-existent floppy disk)

After trying to use demon for a drive emulator tools so that I could actually stop using the physical disk that I don't want to wear them first noticed the problem. Daemon tools has been uninstalled from the restore points, I used so I don't think that is the question.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Bob

I did what you suggested and none of it worked. Thank you for your help and I have a solution that worked well.

I turned off the computer, unplug the drive (power and sata of course), computer turned off, shut down, reconnected and when I restarted it again, my drive was normal.

  • Lenovo y530 Windows 7 installation cd/dvd driver problem

    Hello everyone!

I'm a happy user of Lenovo y530 bought with MS Windows Vista Home Premium. I have easy access to your MSDN AA software. It allows me to download and install Windows 7 Professional for example. I downloaded the image, tested on virtual machine and it works fine. So I decided to install it directly on my hard drive for portable computers. I burned a dvd with a possible minimum speed and here I had a problem. It starts very well, I choose the language and locale, but after she, I have information that there is a missing cd/dvd driver. Installer wants to give me a file location.

I don't know what driver is needed. I downloaded files related to my Optirac drive but they are all exe and it does not accept the installation program. Could someone help me?

I searched many forums, but there is no ansfer of satisfaing I can't use USB key to install it.

I also tried another DVD to burn, another Windows build - and the result was the same.

Edit: have you tried with another order of start (CD 1) - with the same results

The response was quite strange for me. I tried a DVD + R instead of DVD - R disc and it works

  • Cannot update Windows / / Windows think that its true / / Windows Explorer crash

BACK STORY: Windows told me that my old HDD is faulty and I need to replace it. I therefore created a system disk image and restore the HARD drive fault and buy a new. I have restored my image for the new HARD drive, and apparently some of the system files that got copied have been corrupted.

I'll HAVE PROBLEMS: The main problem I encounter is that windows will not update. I'll go to the start menu and try to choose windows update and it will sit in the windows Explorer screen blank until it crashes. This is the only time that windows Explorer will crash it's fine otherwise. If I have correctly interpreted my read, inability to update windows is caused by the software is is not authentic. Which brings me to the next point.
Windows don't think that it is authentic, even if I see the CDKEY in the system information window and when I hit "Activate Windows" in the search bar in the start menu, that it says "Activation was successful." I get a window saying: http://imgur.com/OQlZDhR I thought that I humor the system and try and validate it although this Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/DownloadValidationSupport.aspx?displaylang=en when I try and install the software Validation of Windows, I get this error: http://imgur.com/8lb0abR
TECHNICAL issues: I bought my computer from a major retailer with Windows Vista, he came with an OS disk. I've then upgraded to Windows 7 a few months after it is released and subsequently lost the installation disk that really means nothing because it is not the full operating system. So, indeed, I have no way to find my drive upgrade for windows reinstall/repair, which is what I would have done originally.
What I DID: I ran the command " Sfc/scannow " to the command window and he returned with: http://imgur.com/OD6WygE when I try and access the .log for this, he tells me access denied and I can't access the safe my life.
QUESTION: Is there something I can do to fix this? Something like a Windows download different difficulty tool or something else that I don't know who's going to help me fix the windows before going outside and by a new Windows 7 disc to repair the files?
    Thank you for your time

EDIT: Tried to start in safe mode, I can't even open the windows update screen, just, it is there and does nothing.

  • Load Windows XP from external DVD drive

Replaced the hard drive on laptop. DVD drive does not work on the laptop. How to install windows XP from an external DVD drive hard disk new?

You must change the boot order in the BIOS of your computer.

The boot order is order this computer tries to start from, for example, it can check the internal DVD first, then if there is nothing in there, go to the hard drive.

You need to plug in your external DVD drive (it's probably USB).

Then go into the BIOS setup - search for boot order and move the external DVD drive to the top of the boot list, so this is the first device to be "started" from.

Then restart your laptop and then it should boot from the external DVD drive, which probably contains the installation media for Windows XP (DVD/CD).

  • Windows Recovery - no CD/DVD drive

My Hp laptop under vista just died. I went to turn it on and it came with a screen with 'the operating system not found' I looked into this and things seemed rather bleek. I shot it today and he slowly began to start, and I was able to use it for an hour or two, until this I restarted.
Now it loads just the screen "loading Microsoft" for 5 minutes (ish) then I get the blue screen of death. I can get it to go in the system recovery options, but I don't have a CD/DVD drive to run the recovery CD. I wanted to know if there is a way (im he is safe, but can't find it) to run it on my Ex's Hardrive. Ive looked for something, but this seems to be for the restore CD.

  • Windows think that there is a second monitor

    Hi all

I have searched through the forums to see if anyone has experienced this before, and it seems that people have but solved the problem in a few simple steps. I tried as well.
    Here's the question (on Windows 7 64-bit):
Window "think" there is a second monitor attached to him off to the right.
I go to my properties of screen resolution and it shows only one display.
However, I can leave my mouse to the right and see that it continue.
It's as if he thinks there is a second monitor attached.
This causes problems with my colors and Aero.
Windows is stuck in 16 bits, even if all my properties all are set to "true color (32 bit)".
I ran solve them problems with transparency and other Aero effects Wizard and he returned with two questions:
1 color depth is set too low (once again I looked at all the properties everywhere and they are set to 32)
2 desktop Window Manager is disabled (looked in windows services and is being run/auto start)
I started in safe mode and reinstalled my drivers (Intel HD3000) graphics card
Any help would be great as using 16-bit icons in all my applications is terrible.
Update, dug around the Aero results troubleshooting and I see the following:
    Color definition of requirements:
    Depth: 32 bits
    Required: 32 bits
    Depth: 8 bit
    Required: 32 bits
Looks like my 'ghost' monitor is running in 8-bit, thus avoiding to run Aero.

    Very well... Figured it out.

Start > Device Manager > graphics cards
I saw there are a few things in here, one being "Air Display Adapter.
Air is an application that allows you to use your iPad as a second monitor.
I right click on it, click 'disable' and restarted. Everything is good in the world.
According to me, the issue was the last round of Windows updates to update my video card drivers and Air screen only plays nice with drivers updated.
  • I get a window saying that my c drive is low on my Windows 7 pro, I can't solve the problem

I get a pop up box saying that my c drive is low. I checked on my hard drive is rated a 913 GB and I have only 38 GB left. I use it almost for nothing, except e-mail, some internet surfing, some pictures and trying to record music on widows media, so I barely use any hard drive, and it won't let me restore or some other functions because it is so weak. At the moment, he says: I'm free to 913 GB 38 GB.

The first thing I would do would be to run Disk Cleanup.  Click Start-> computer.  Right click on C:, and then click Properties.  Then, click the disk cleanup button and see how much space that can release to you.

You can also download and run the free program Treesize

http://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/ to see where your space has gone.

    Good luck.

Windows continually gives this message, my dvd player also works very well, even, I inserted other DVDs. and my DVD is also very good, I had checked it in other laptops.

Please suggest me how to solve this problem!

    Hello

Thanks for posting the question in Microsoft Answers.

    I apologise for the inconvenience.

    Please answer these questions:

    1. do you have an option to cancel the backup?

    2. what happens when you cancel the backup?

    3. were there any changes made prior to this problem?

Looks like the backup is scheduled.

Disable the scheduled task, case and look for the question:

    a. click the Start button, type taskschd.msc in the search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.

    b. in the MMC snap-in Scheduler of tasks Microsoft Management Console (), expand Task Scheduler Library, expand Microsoft, expand Windows and then click Backup.

Note: If no backup job is scheduled, the backup folder Windows cannot display.

    c. click on the scheduled task and then click Disable in the Actions pane.

Hope this information helps. Let us know if you need additional assistance. We are happy to help you.
