WINDOWS UPDATE error: failed to update NVIDIA GEFORCE 9300GE

I was warned by MS Update, I have an optional update for install.

When I tried to install the updated driver, I got a code error 800705 b 4; However, the MANAGER of DEVICES displays the new driver was installed and is waiting for a restart, but still WINDOWS UPDATE he says IMPOSSIBLE.
This what should I believe?
Thank you
Dan

You are welcome.

Here is some information that I put in place on a good way to use Windows updates:

You do not have to install an update problem will continue to cause problems for you.

Is there a way to get around that.

Microsoft gives sometimes you updates for the 3rd party hardware: graphics, network cards, etc.

You should only get the latest drivers for them to real hardware manufacturer's website, as Microsoft normally does nor those have the most recent drivers available as Microsoft relies of the 3rd party hardware Manufactuer to provide.

But unfortunately, the only way to know which is the update of the problem is to install them one by one, until you find the 'wrong' for your installation.

You can do a system restore to get back until it has been installed (which is NOT the best way to remove an update) or follow this method:

'Remove an update'

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/remove-an-update

When you have found the issue of update of the list of updates which is presented > then right click on the update problem > select Hide update > and it will not be available to you once again

"How to hide or show an update of Windows Vista"

http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/72491-Windows-Update.html

Here's how to change the update settings, if you think it is necessary to:

"Understanding Windows Update and Extras in Windows Vista and Windows 7.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/Windows-Vista-updates-and-extras/

Or the other of these two update settings will give you the chance to see what you want to install through Windows updates;

Download updates but let me choose whether to install them - if you select this option, Windows will download the updates on your computer, but not install them automatically. If you want to install updates, then you must install them manually. You should only select this option if you have a reason to not install updates automatically. Only advanced users should use this option.

Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them - if you select this option, you'll be alerted when there are new updates available for download and install. You can then choose to download and install the updates that you want. This option should really be reserved for people who know exactly which updates they need, or those who have little access to the Internet.

But remember you normally only have problems with hardware 3rd party drivers. Other updates are to improve the Performance and security of your system

See you soon.

Hi, after updated windows updated 10/19/09 my graphics card has been disabled (nVidia GeForce 9300GE). I tried to activate the device, prompting the update driver, and the update failed to install the device became "not recognized".  I restored the system before the update and everything was ok until the PC has been stopped and restarted.  I have been through the process of restoring about 6 times, each time, try another way of preventing recurrence for example turn off the automatic updates, uninstall KB915597, etc., but nothing works. Is there a permanent solution to this mess?
PS my system is Vista on a 64-bit AMD Phenom X 4 processor.

Then re-install the graphics card driver by downloading from:

  • Display Satellite 5100 adapter fails suddenly with NVIDIA GeForce

I have a 5100 501 Satellite, which uses the NVIDIA GeForce 440 Go display adapter.

Without changing the settings, the display has stopped working about two weeks ago. Other users have had the same problem (see http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/index.php?act=ST&f=5&t=49116), but no one has managed to explain or fix the problem. The best that we can do is to disable the driver, which means that the function of "hang" on the laptop is no longer works and leaves me with interference on the screen.

One theory is that a Windows Update caused the problem. Does not work reinstall any number of drivers (including those recommended by NVIDIA and Toshiba).

This is a problem very irritating... someone can help?

    MS

    Hello

Well, check that you have downloaded the graphics driver on the right.
Each Satellite 5100-xxx needs a different graphic driver.
In addition, overheating can be a problem. If some high-performance tools (games) running on the device the parts (graphics card) produce a lot of heat. This can lead to freeze the screen. In his case the square around the unit should be free with it that fans could take a breath.

    MARKTRAVIS

    Hi Mark,

I appreciate the efforts that you put to publish the query on this forum.

However, it would be better if you can provide some details related to the query:
    (1) is there a third party security software installed on the computer?
    (2) there the restore points that are created on the computer before this problem?

System Restore automatically recommends the last restore created before a significant change like installing a program point.

To store restore points, you need at least 300 megabytes (MB) of free space on each hard disk with the system on Protection. System Restore can use up to 15 percent of the space on each disk. As the amount of space fills up with restore points, System Restore deletes older restore points to make room for the new.

You can also follow these steps to increase the memory allocated for the restoration of the system:
    (a) press Windows and Pause Break to open System Properties.
    (b) click on the System Protection option.
    (c) click on each disc.
    (d) click on Configure.
    (e) check if the allocation of memory on each hard disk is allocated.

The settings above, you can also check if there are restore points available on the computer. Click System Restore, and check if you are able to find restore points.

To solve the problem, if you have installed a third-party security software on the computer, I suggest you temporarily disable and check if it solves the problem.
Important note: Security software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Please let us know about the status of this issue.
  • Update Windows for Vista - NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS driver errors

Update Vista Home Basic 6002:SP2.  Secunia Personal Software Inspector and MS Security Essentials confirm the system software is updated.

Windows Update optional update for NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS on 4/5 and 4/11.  Updates have been declared as 'Successful' but has caused problems of compatibility with the resolution.  (http://winqual.microsoft.com/support/?driverid=20418057) More details below.

HW - Dell 530 with GeForce 8400 GS with BIOS 62.98.71.0.5 - 512 MB of memory dedicated - 767 MB shared memory.

CRT is detected as driver MS running generic PnP 6.0.6001.18000.  The display is an AMW CM1722PF 17 "CRT with a preferred resolution of the 1024x768x70Hz.  (IIRC, MS drivers for Intel 8031 correctly detected VGA display modes, rather than generic report.)

On both NVIDIA driver update attempts, Windows Update reports the success and I rebooted (despite the lack of obligation to restart).  Display was OK on the screen connection, but limited to 640 x 480 on desktop after login.  Edges of the Office had fallen.

In addition, Panel-> NVIDIA Control Panel translates "the NVIDIA Display Panel Extension cannot be created... Possible reasons include the incorrect version.  Reinstall display drivers can fix this problem. »

After the failure of 4/5, I uninstalled Windows Update display drivers and reinstalled on reboot.  Got the NVIDIA Display Panel and appropriate video modes.  Everything was going well until we repeated this Windows Update NVIDIA driver update fiasco 4/11.

Have not repeated the manual Reinstall driver this time, I'm puzzled why Windows Update can't get this right.    This is a very common piece of hardware and you would think that there is regression tests for driver updates.

This makes me wary of Windows Update.  Suggestions?
