Windows updates only ever reach 29%

Every day my laptop makes updates to windows, but never get to 29%, then ends, takes forever and makes my phone very slow, by doing this, freezes too much during this time, also.

It seems that updates can never get completed, I tried clicking on the Update icon, but it won't let me access this option to see the updates are underway... everyone has an idea whats happening, was hard for months now.

Hi pipps73,

It is possible that the Windows Update components are damaged or missing on the computer.

I suggest that reset you the default Windows Update components and check.

How to reset the Windows Update components?

I hope this helps!

Your last two responses bring back us to 2 two things you posted yesterday (I had hoped we could avoid).

    In reverse...

[#1] ... I received an error message when I booted my computer that says "cannot find componate RPS.exe. "AntiFr.dll was not trying to install again.

Several years ago, before Verizon (or whatever your telephone company was called at the time) gave the suite McAfee customers, she gave another sequel on Proctection of Radialpoint Suite (AKA freedom Internet Security).

The code snippet above tells me that the Radialpoint suite has been installed on your computer at somepoint in a past distant: files RPS. EXE and ANTIFR. DLL are 'leftovers' from Radialpoint Protection Suite (where letters RPS in the first file name).

Speaking of the hard personal experience, I can tell you more about Radialpoint is about impossible to remove completely without manual editing of the registry - something you DO NOT want to do!

And despite what the volunteer moderator McAfee Forums and communities (own KB of Radialpoint article) has to say, you do NOT want to download Microsoft's Windows Installer Cleanup utility now interrupted the quoted source not Microsoft !

[#2] ... I installed Speedy [PC] Pro last week... every day since then, around 15:00 I get a message that says "cannot find c: Program file commune File\SpeedyPC Software\UUS3\UUS3.dll ' I click on close and she goes until the next day.

Unfortunately, installation & with the Speedy PC Pro 'scareware' is no worse, Dennis. [It is called "scareware" because you have to buy this disreputable application ($34.95 USD, I heard last) until it 'fixed' anything.] [Of course, it won't fix a 'thing'!]  See this recent discussion, some-online http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-security/who-are-speedy-pc-pro-and-are-they-safe-to-use/62629332-a670-4166-b418-e2a5a876daa1

TIP: If you ever think that your registry database must be cleaned, repaired, boosted, point, healed, twisted, fixed, magnified, "swept" or optimized (it isn't), read http://aumha.NET/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own conclusions. See also http://blogs.technet.com/markrussinovich/archive/2005/10/02/registry-junk-a-windows-fact-of-life.aspx

If you had not used the Speedy PC Pro crapware, there is a very slim chance that you would be able to install the suite McAfee/Verizon again - at least according to McAfee Tier III Support Tech post on this page. But you don't have so there is nothing we can do about it now. [No, System Restore may not "come to the rescue" here.]

=> Let me level with you here: this set of the problem is due to have not entirely - remove the McAfee free version to test which is preinstalled on your computer, years BEFORE the installation of any antivirus application (for example, the suite of Radialpoint) AND BEFORE installation of Windows updates.

Now the very bad new: the only way to return your computer to a functional & secure State is backup so your personal data (for example, the contents of the My Documents folder;) Favorites of IE; E-mail Client data) then format the hard drive and do a clean install of Windows XP (or buy a computer brand new Windows 7).

Follow the instructions (to-the-letter & in order!) in this post of mine in another forum: http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=44636

If you need additional help with the new installation, start your own, new topic in this forum: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-system

If these procedures are outside your technique "comfort zone" - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the computer to a local, reputable and a stand-alone computer (that is, not "BigBoxStoreUSA" or Geek Squad), repair shop & let them do the work.

Note: The computer must NOT be connected to the internet or local networks (i.e. other computers) in its current state. All your personal data (e.g., banking online & passwords credit card) must be considered at risk, if not already compromised.

I sincerely wish I had better news for you.  Good luck!

  • Why windows update only after I turn off pc?

Click Start disable updates of windows now.

Many files that modify the Windows updates are used by the system in normal operation.  Cannot modify these files when they are in use.  Thus, the updated hourly changes after booting the system, but before Windows itself actually starts.  What you see when you turn off the computer is the preparation for the update will take place the next time you start.

  • Cannot print on a Brother printer after Windows Update

We share the same brother MFC-8660DN on a network (Win XP x 4 & Win 2008 Server x 1), everything was fine until yesterday (16/09/10). 2 XP computers cannot print (Status: printing error) just after the recent update of windows installation (windows auto update has been set for each week). When we tried to print to the brother printer, he would be stuck in queue for a minute and a bubble pop up "document cannot be printed." 2 computers work fine otherwise. Everything works normoally and can be printed to another printer like Canon. (PS: I tried to uninstall and reinstall the brother printer driver, but no luck the question of setting)

On the other hand, the other 2 XP did not have an update, and so they can't always print on the Brother printer. Also, Win 2008 server doing a windows update auto but print very well so.

Therefore, I believe that the update of windows XP must have something to do with the printing error. Is there a fix or update? Alternatively, we can uninstall the recent windows update (only one?) to solve this problem? I'm not sophisticated OS, do not know what could be uninstalled. Help, please!

I received a call from a client 2010-Sep-16 that they could no longer print
on a network printer from any workstation.

Workstations have Vista Business 32 and have been updated morning of September 16.

The server is Server2003 & printing it still worked well.

Printers using IP ports very well for more than 2 years.
Fix was to use instead of the intellectual property & create ports with the full share name.

The IP address of the printer had not changed AND
I couldn't always navigate with IE8 (using IP address)
    printer see printer configuration data

    Workstations are Server 2003 domain

This trick of name full-fledged was how I had to put in place
    Vista Home Premium workstations
to use network printers in home networks.

Why Vista Business "updated" settings for Home Premium?
Is this a permanent 'update '?

Why no matter what version of VISTA do this?
Windows 7 has the same problem?

With Vista Business 32 (short-term)? solution was to change the port to a local port with full sharing of the printer name

    See you soon
  • Window update problem (error Code: 80246008)

I recently tried to run Windows Update only for it to face an unknown error only by giving the error code 80246008. This also seems to affect windows defender which would not be up-to-date and Games for Windows Live that would not download (error code: 80080005).

After a lot of Googling the error code apprently (BITS) Background Intelligent Transfer Service does not work properly. When I try to manually start service (all under administrator privileges), he stops and begins to give this message:

"The service Service on Local computer Background Intelligent Transfer began and stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs. »

Then I downloaded the repair tool BITS (Windows6 0-KB940520 - x 86 - ENU) and ran to try to repair but it states:
"Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) repair is unnecessary at present."

I then tried to run Microsoft Fix It, in normal and aggressive mode, and it gets stuck and gives this error message:
"Service"Background Intelligent Transfer Service"(BITS) was able to start. Check that you have sufficient privileges to start system services. »

My version of Windows is Windows Vista Home Premium (Service Pack 2). Thanks for any help you can offer in this area.

After looking at at least 20 different threads through the internet about this problem, my problem showed no evidence of a malware issue fixable (something to do with the malware by changing a registry key for % SystemRoot % and % fystemroot %), or due to other corrections mentioned work. In the end I had to do this that most of the threads, I have finally places frequent, all re - install windows.

Thanks for your help anyway man.

  • 910219. how to download and keep the Windows Update files?

    Hello

What is the ideal way to update Windows? now, Windows downloads the selected updates. where? I do not know! and after their installation, it removes the packages for installation on my computer. This causes the downloaded updates are lost, and I can't use them to similar machines that need to install the same updates. for these machines, I have to download updates again! This causes my internet to be charged again while it is not really necessary.

the ideal way, in my view, is that I can specify a folder for the Windows Update service. It can use a default folder for that also. After selecting the updates, I want to install in my system, it checks to see if the update is already existing in the folder. only if NOT it downloads. then after downloading it maintains the package in the same folder after installing. installation should be done automatically as it is done now. Then I can move the folder to another machine. in the second machine, I also choose the update I want to be installed which are mostly the same as the first machine. for example, Windows Update only consumes my internet traffic for updates that are not yet downloaded. I wonder why Windows Update doesn't currently work the same way?

by this method, I can at least use the consumption of traffic and I can access the latest updates with the easier and faster way. I I would like to choose a memory flash for this purpose and keep the folder inside.

is there a way to achieve this?

  • How to make a backup of the Windows updates?

If I want to install another version of windows 8 on my PC after cleaning my PC and I don't want to redownload already downloaded updates to windows, IT IS ALL WAY TO SAVE THE ALREADY INSTALLED "WINDOWS UPDATES" ONLY?

    Hello

    Please contact Microsoft Community.

I understand you want to make a backup of windows 8 and reuse it again with another version of windows.
