  It is very possible that your CD may be damaged.  Is it possible to get another copy to try on your machine? Or try this copy on another machine to see if it works or not.
  Also check in control panel--> system--> for you Device Manager make sure that there is no yellow/red icon next to the CD player and it's function correctly.

  If requirements call for Vista, so general, it should run fine under Windows 7. We are talking about 32-bit or 64-bit here? To be on the safe side, you could try to create a Restore Point before you download and install.

  As I said in the title, my hard drive went bad on my Dell XPS 420.  I was running 32 bit windows vista service Pack 2 since the last time my hard drive gone bad.  The first time I replaced my hard drive I used the cd of Windows Vista install with cd drivers and using automatic updates of windows.  In a few hours, I had my pc up and running.  But with this record, it's a completely different story.
