Windows Vista automatically locks the computer.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 with Windows Vista business with service pack 2 installed and kept up-to-date. I noticed that, after a few minutes of inactivity on my computer, Windows locks automatically the computer. By that I mean it will act as if I had pressed the "lock" button and return to the sign in the display. I am running Norton 360 antivirus program and have in the past to run Mcafee. Does anyone know why the event occurred, or particularly how to solve this problem, because it has become more than a nuisance.
Thank you.

  • Update Windows automatically restarts the computer. I would like to disable this feature.

Update Windows automatically restarts the computer. I would like to disable this feature. I'm running a machine business with complex projects requiring a configuration long and delicate. The details below:
Type of operating system: Windows 7 Ultimate
Problem: Status of the project lost after auto restart during the night
Require: A method of disabling automatic restart after an automatic update is happening.
Tried: I already tried looking in the registry for an appropriate key change, but no have been found appropriate.

    Aelryn,
You can configure Windows update to meet your needs, for example, download the update and then let me choose when to install the same. This way you always get the automatic updates but you chose when and where and how to install updates at a time that is convenient.

Then I suggest to change the Automatic Updates settings to meet the needs of PAHO.

Choice, you can turn off to THE (not recommended), you can adjust to download updates only and allow you to install them at a convenient time, you can adjust information only, or you can leave to do what he likes.

If you update, you must restart sometime in the case otherwise you are not protected and you might as well do not update at all. Everything is a matter of choice. One size does not fit all, so a choice can be made. I have updates informed me only, then I decide what, when and how to do to install the updates. It's my choice.

    1. have you installed your new ultimate configuration on a new partition?

    2. have you you choose customized and placed the installation in the same partition as your old ultimate configuration? In this case you see two Windows folder in your C: drive / drive (or any other partition)? (Possibly with the .old extension)

  • Why the Windows Vista client gets the IP address of the Windows SBS 2011 as default DNS server?

I use Windows Vista on a client computer that is connected to our Windows Server SBS 2011 server. I don't want to use the DNS server on the local server and the DNS addresses are automatically collected on our router. Every time I have to restart my computer or disconnect / reconnect the connection to the local network, the default DNS server address is set back to static and has the IP address of the local server, which makes it much slower DNS specifications.

Can I disable this automatic update of address of DNS server somehow? In fact, I don't want to run a DNS server on the local server.

    Hello

The best way is to clean install and start over.

In addition, it is not legal to have both installed version that the license is for a single installation.

If it is a dual boot with 32 bit and 64 bit installed on different partitions, there would not have been the conflicts you would have never started in one or the other.

It would be a good idea to run the System File Checker tool to see if you have corrupted files

"How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the files on system missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7"

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally made programs, Accessories, right-click guest, and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

If SFC detects serious flaws, you may need to perform a repair upgrade Installation or relocation complete if you don't have a Vista DVD from Microsoft.

If you can borrow a DVD of Vista from Microsoft you save doing a reinstall full:
