Windows Vista - folder icons

It is probably a very dense matter and the answer is probably obvious, but I can't find the answer and it's driving crazy me.  What do the small yellow or green circles mean in the lower left corner of the icons folder?

Can I subscribe to Carbonite or other on line services bach?  Yellow dots are waiting for back up, green files are saved

    Hi Luisbon,

Thank you for visiting Forums answers to Microsoft Windows.

Given that the installation of the operating system files are present in the Windows folder, it will occupy certain amount of space. The WinSxS folder contains the copy of the file system and other components. If you install many applications for Vista, WinSXS folder may be great because it will require to store multiple copies of the dll to enable multiple applications to run in windows without compatibility issues. If you browse inside, you can look at a lot of duplicate dll, each with the same name. These are actually different versions of the same files that are stored; different programs may require different versions. In short, Winsxs, acronym for "Windows Side By Side," is native assembly cache of Vista.

However, I have some steps that will help you increase your computer's hard disk space.

    Method 1

Delete all temporary files from your computer. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. click on the start search box.

    2. type %temp%, and then press ENTER.

    3. delete all files in the temp folder.

Note: Leave the files that refuse to remove.

    Method 2

Remove all the temporary files that may exist on CD and DVD burning.

To do this, follow these steps:

Delete all files in the folder in folder location to burn C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Burn\Temporary burn and delete all the files.

    Method 3

Run clean disc of the location (Start) > all programs > Accessories > system tools.

    Method 4

If you do not use Hibernation you can save space in the space of hard drive as the amount of RAM installed by turning it off. In the run window, type powercfg.exe off h (spaces note both) and press ENTER. To re-enable type powercfg.exe h and press ENTER.

  • Windows Vista. Icons and bar do not list jobs

So yes... Let me explain my problem here.

Yesterday, I created one guest and offline account to another, after that, my screen

became black and unresponsive to everything I pressed. Even after the reboot of my

    computer, the problem persists.

Now, I had turned off the guest account, through safe mode.

But in normal mode, icons, task bars have disappeared, but the background and mouse cursors

remains. I was wondering if this could have something related to the chart or something.

In addition, I am not able to go to the Task Manager, it goes black screen after I've done crt + alt + delete.

    I use windows vista x64bit

    Please guys, I need help);

    Hi XYC4,

    • You have security software installed on the computer?

    Method 1

First check to see if the problem persists using the last known good configuration.

    Startup options (including safe mode)

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

    Method 2

If you still encounter question then start in safe mode then run demarrer start clean, check if it helps.

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    (a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    (b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    (c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

    (d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

  • Animation/Windows Vista network icon?

im a bit disappointed with how the new icon. Before slot windows XP would only Flash when there is traffic flowing through them, but the new version of Vista flashes randomly. How can I get my network icons to work only when there is current network activity?

I tried to right click the icon and turn on the animation activity. but nothing happens.

I'm sorry that you are not satisfied with the way Vista displays the LAN activity.  However, there is not a way to change this.  You are invited to read all about Windows 7 which has a release candidate available for free download.  I don't know if the icon of LAN traffic is different in Windows 7 it is XP.  You can read all about Windows 7 here:

  • Display of Windows Vista, the icons and all THE GRAPHICS suddenly pixelated, appear low quality at the highest resolution and colors

Please help, out of nowhere on my screen - background, all icons, all graphics (including the Explorer and other programs) have become rough and pixelated and seem very low qualty even if my display is set to the highest resolution management settings and color. I've not been able to find a way to restore and have no idea why it is doing this in the first place. It's really bothering me, it's hard to read (text appears fuzzy and broken up, not smooth and sharp, icons have white or another pixelation around them and do not have the 'look of glass'.) I was wondering if one of the old games my children changed my settings somewhere but I've lived every control panel I find and have not been able to correct the problem.  Even the buttons (back, forward, refresh, etc.) in Explorer have bad pixelation. That's happened? Help! :) Thank you

I would also update the drivers, firmware or software for your monitor at the same time.  Also, if you have another monitor, swap them to see if the problem goes away or moves - then we can pretty much reduce the question to the screen and not the video card (and if the updated drivers do not resolve this problem, then it's a hardware problem and you can either take a workshop of computer service repair or simply a replacement of purchase screen.)

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Is there a way to backup and restore vista layout icon on the desktop?

Is there a way to save & restore the Windows Vista desktop icons without having to download anything?  Windows has a 'solution' to download I don't know?  Thanks, gator gal

Hi t-4-2, just wanted you to know that I had my friends icons all back.  She had inadvertently put them in another folder in the office when she tried to pull them to where she wanted.  His vision is not what it was, so it makes it extremely interesting when she tries to deal with the computer.  The magnifying glass that she uses with her mouse helps a little.  In any case, it is almost crossed your fingers when she uses her PC.  Icons disappear, the printer mysteriously stopped working.  I just try to keep its games where she can find them, as well as its image file.  Thanks for your help.  Very much appreciated.

  • Dial-up access is connected, but Windows Vista says it isn't.

Well, I connect to my Dial-up connection and it connects to the internet, but it is extremely slower than it was.  Even if I'm networking Windows Vista connected icon, (computer two on the start to the right bar) has a X on it and when I pass the icon it says: "You are not currently connected to any networks." Now consider this issue further away, I'm heading on in the center network and sharing-> manage network connections-> right click on my connection Dial - up-> State.
These are the results of Word for Word:

    Connection:
    IPv4 connectivity: Not connected
    IPv6 connectivity: Not connected
    Media state: connected
    Duration: 00:44:33 (important)
    Speed: 9.6 Kbps (Also important)

However, that's my theory and I ask you guys if I'm wrong or not.  Because my connection is not actually connected to IPv4 and IPv6, it is extremely slow.  Still more slowly than usual Dial-up that's been frustrating me and my family for quite awhile.

Is there any solution for this?  I'm not using a modem and the phone jack is connected directly to the computer, I checked the wires and I'm sure they're fine.

    All,
Here are some steps to you all try to fix your network connectivity issues.  Some of you may have tried some of these steps, if so, just do not take into account.  Because there are several people involved in this thread, now I want to put all the possible corrections for the loss of connectivity.

    Disable the IP helpdesk:

1 hold the Windows key and type R, type "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press enter
    2. scroll down to the IP assistance service, right-click on it and select Properties
    3. in the drop-down list box that says "Automatic" or "Manual", set it to disabled and then click 'apply '.
    4. then click on "Stop" to stop the service from running in the current session
    5. click on OK to exit the dialog box

    Disable IPv6:
Try to uninstall IPv6 on all interfaces, the removal of virtual cards of IPv6 and reset the TCP/IP stack.  To remove the IPv6, go to the properties for each network adapter, and deselect the check box next to the Protocol "Internet Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6), which will turn off, or select it and click on uninstall, which withdraw power off the computer.»  Then go into Device Manager and remove any 4to6 adapters, adapters miniport WUN or tunnel adapters.

NOTE: You should do this for each network connection.

    Disable the DHCP Broadcast Flag:

    Link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928233
Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
322756 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/ ) how to back up and restore the registry in Windows

Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or some non-Microsoft DHCP servers
To resolve this issue, disable the DHCP BROADCAST flag in Windows Vista. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, type regedit in the search box, and then click regedit in the list programs.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\ {GUID}
This registry path, click the (GUID) subkey that corresponds to the card network that is connected to the network.
On the Edit menu, point to new, and then click DWORD (32-bit) value.
In the new area #1, type DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle and press ENTER.
Right-click DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle, then click on modify.
In the value data box, type 1 and then click OK.
    Close the registry editor.
By setting this registry key to 1, Windows Vista's trying to get an IP address using the BROADCAST flag in DHCP Discover packets. If that fails, he will try to obtain an IP address without using the BROADCAST flag in DHCP Discover packets.

    To clear the DNS cache:
Click Start, type cmd in the search box, and then click cmd in the list programs.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.
Once at the command prompt, type ipconfig/flushdns

Please post back and let us know if your problem is resolved or not.

  • Cannot remove desktop icon in Windows Vista

I can't remove an icon of a document word on my desk. I first saved this file on my desk and he settled in a folder under "documents". Now, when I try dragging the icon remains on the desktop into the trash or select DELETE from the drop-down below, I get an error message that says "file not found." I tried to put the file on my desktop, but only another shortcut - creates a shortcut that I am able to remove. How can I delete the icon? I wouldn't mind deleting the document if necessary.

Try one of the following two products: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml or file Assassin http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.phpUnlocker.  These programs tend to work when the standard functions of delete Windows Vista do not make the case.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi tonutot,

1 when was the last time it was working fine?

    2. did you of recent changes on the computer?

    3. only happens in the pictures folder?

Check and make sure that the bottom of settings is set correctly on the computer.

    (a) in the currently open folder, click organize on the toolbar, and then click folder and Search Options.

    (b) click on the view tab, and then deselect the always show icons, never thumbnails check box.

    (c) click on apply and OK

    Behavior and change folder views
