• Windows Update does not update Windows Vista platform.

  I recently tried to update my Windows Live Messenger and I get a message that I need this new platform update. The site for the update page told me just to run Windows Update and install it. However, after that Windows Update returns with no such update for my system. What can I do about it? I am running Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition. Please instruct me on how to get this update. I do not wish for the answers that tell me simply run the update client, which does not work for some reason any. My update client is also perfectly up-to-date. Any help is appreciated.

  The "platform update" required by Windows Live Messenger is not Windows Live application update security. It can be installed manually. The experts in the Windows Live forums will be able to help you to do (especially if you try to install Windows Live Messenger Wave 4 beta).

  In other words, it is a question of Windows Live Essentials, not an update of Windows (although Windows Update may offer updates to Windows Live Essentials).

• Update for Windows Vista is constantly reboot and try to deal with "step 3".

  Not able to reach the internet through this computer to try Mr. FixIt.  Can't seem to roll back previous at point. System just tried time and time again in stage 3 of the Windows Update I have download yesterday.

• Don't have the Windows Platform Update for Windows Vista in Windows Update.

  I tried to download the new Windows Live Messenger Beta, but it tells me I need to download this update of the platform before I can install the Messenger.   First of all, check that you have installed Vista Service Pack 2. If Service Pack 2 is not installed on the computer, you can install the stand-alone version of Windows Vista Service Pack 2. • Help: update for Windows Vista (KB971644) _ platform

  Greetings:

  I keep getting told that the update above wants to be installed.  I tried to install it about 5 times and every time the system does the following:

  1 download the software
  2 install the software
  3. wonder to reboot the machine (which I do)
  4. in step 3 of the process, he confgures the downloaded software
  5. said that something was wrong with the configuration of the software... no error code.  just something went wrong.
  6 restores the system to the point of departure.
  7 restart the system

  This is getting frustrating... my system has very well updated with each produced Vista fix.  is there a way to bypass this update or can I get windows update in order to stop telling me that this update is available?

  Given that this problem is after a fairly recent install of SP2...

  Start > Right click on run , and then select run as administrator >
  (type or copy/paste) %windir%\SoftwareDistribution > [OK]
  Open the download folder and delete its content
  Close the window.

  3 start | Control Panel | System maintenance and (if you use Classic view, skip this step). Windows Update |  View the updates available (or Select the updates installed): right click on the (platform) update for Windows Vista (KB971644) | Click hide update | Confirm the prompt UAC (User Account Control), if any, & OK your way out.

  4. start the automatic updates service:

  Start > Right click on run , and then select run as administrator > services.msc (type) > [OK]
  Double-click automatic updates > click Start
  (Stopping the service will take a moment)

  To restore/show updates for Vista: Start | Control Panel | System maintenance and (if you use Classic view, skip this step) | Windows Update | Restore hidden updates: Find and select the update you want to install. Click restore. You can now select once again it and install through the normal process.

  NB: If KB971644 were available for download/installation manual (and is not), I would have you try it.
