Windows Vista - > Windows Server

Hello

I have an old pc to Windows Vista, and I was about to get rid of it as I use my Windows 7 laptop all the time - but I started to teach myself Umbraco CMS, which is a .NET content management system. So I turn my old Vista desktop in a such a server directly connected to my router. I have no problems with Vista, but it does not networks and memory network usernames and passwords etc.

I don't want to spend a lot of money, but you ask what is the best way to get this update to Windows 7, 8 or a version of Windows Server or is there anything else you would recommend for me to be able to create website with IIS and Umbraco (.NET platform) (free enterprise is good enough)

Old spec pc is more than enough, and the memory is quite high spec for Windows 7 or 8...

Any ideas?

Your best bet is to contact umbraco that we would have no knowledge of its requirements, etc.

  • Windows Server 2008 64-bit indicates that Windows Vista 64-bit

    Hello

I have my first Windows Server 2008 upwards and runs as a virtual machine, but when I install VMware Tools in the virtual machine guest OS password Windows Server 2008 64-bit for Windows Vista 64-bit in the guest in the VI Client operating system column.

If I check in the virtual machine properties dialog box of the operating system is always set correctly under Windows Server 2008 64-bit.

I'm running the virtual machine on ESX 3.5 Update 4 any ideas on why this is happening?

    Best regards

    Jonas

    Hi Jonas,.

As Troy mentioned, many of us have seen this "glitch"

I recommend you to try and return the Version in 'General options' for Vista 64 bit, apply, flip it to "Server 2008 64 bit", apply.

    and see if that helps,

If not, perhaps that the relocation of the VMware tools help?

Or maybe delete VM from the inventory, then add it back (do not remove the disc if...!).

  • VM in Vista appears on Windows Server 2008

I'm on my second test using a virtual machine, I converted from a Bootcamp Windows Vista partition, and I noticed in the disks hard affect component molten it is listed under "Windows Server 2008". The virtual machine is born a Bootcamp with Vista Ultimate SP1 partition on it.

Is it OK to leave it this way? What happens if I change the disc of Windows Vista? Is how important it?

    Thank you

    Peter

    Hello

Just change it to Vista, there is no harm to be paid on the good operating system. Most likely there is no harm leaving Windows 2008 either, but it's just more logical to match the OS used.

One of the things that is used must have the correct configuration of VMware-tools for the guest operating system. It is also used for the virtual material used as you can see from this link:

    http://sanbarrow.com/VMX/VMX-guestos.html

In addition, it is sometimes also used to apply workarounds. In all cases, it is preferable to match if there is a corresponding OS to choose from.

    > When I insert the CD, the "install Windows Server 2003" is disabled
What do you mean by people with disabilities?

You are not able to boot from the CD?

In these cases, please press the C button immediately after switching on the laptop. This should allow booting from the CD/DVD drive.
Alternatively, you can try to press the F12 key instead of the C key. This should allow the start menu. Then you could choose the STRANGE as boot device and might try to boot from the CD-ROM Server Win.

    Hello

Are you looking for the drivers for Windows Server 2003?
Well, I think you will find all the drivers Win Server 2003 because this drivers don t exist.

Win Server 2003 operating system was designed based on windows XP.
So usually the drivers Win XP should work!

Furthermore, as you are probably aware that the Win Server 2003 operating system is not supported by Toshiba you need to search on sites of third 3rd ATI graphic driver.

Maybe a site www.omegadrivers.net might help you.

But note; 3 third party drivers can be installed ONLY at your own RISK! Why?
Because these drivers have not been tested and so no one can tell if the laptop will run stable and will work properly after installing these drivers.

    Hello

Windows Server 2008 is based on a Vista/Win 7 OS.
It s like the same situation 5 years ago. Win 2003 server was based on Win XP and all the drivers Win XP are compatible with Win 2003 server.

If you are using Windows Server 2008, then you should try the Vista/Win 7 drivers!

  • T61 and windows server 2008

I get to level my t61 of xp to windows server 2008. Yet, the bluetooth does not work. the pilot said he could not find bluetooth device. Secondly the fn keyboard shortcut does not work either. FN + f4 is ok, the fn + pgup/dwn is ok, but not fn + f2, f3, f5. any thoughts?

    Thank you.

Most of these function keys is related to a specific program (Fn + F3 to change plans with power management program)

If the associated program is not installed you have no functionality.

more information can be found here.

To solve the problem or the other vist hereto manually download drivers and software

    Or

Click hereto use the system update drivers and software download and instlal for you

PS bluetooth radio must be powered first before they recognozed by windows. Having been current on windows will install the default microsoft drivers. FN + F5 function is used to do this. Hotkey driver/utility must be installed to use Fn + F5.
