Windows XP Hung installation updates

Windows XP Home Edition started his auto-update yesterday and has me to allow the installation of the updates before you shut down the operating system.

Well now its been 16 or so hours and windows is stuck at installing '10 of the 11 updates', and nothing seems to free the process.

I tried "Send CTRL-ALT-DEL" and which produces no action.  Fusion will not be closed and that windows is in this State.  When I Force Quit Fusion, then restart merger (without restarting the Mac OS) I get returned to the same place "installation 10 of the 11 updates."

Any suggestions on how to cancel this update and return to a normal state with elegance?

Thanks in advance for any help.

It seems that the prompt is hanging in the middle of the update. Force to quit Fusion suspends the prompt then you are immediately in the same place when you try to run the virtual machine. You can make a closing force of the prompt by pressing on and hold down the Option key before choosing the option in the Virtual Machine at the top of the screen menu.

Please be aware that it is the same as pressing the power button on your computer to turn off, so you can alter the prompt. I suggest do a snapshot first and then make the closure of the strength of the guest virtual machine. If ever something happens that you can go back. When everything goes well, just remove the snapshot.

    Hi Mandude,

What Windows version\edition you run the computer?

Step 1: Disconnect all external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) readers, etc...) Except the mouse and keyboard > check if installation of update takes place more quickly

Step 2: You can follow the steps mentioned in the article below, which deals with a similar question

You will need to borrow an installation disc to a former operating system Microsoft - Windows 95, 98 or me. There is no way around it. If person don't you know is an older drive, you can borrow for a few minutes, you will need, you will need to either buy a copy full XP or take the unit to a local computer professional to do the XP installation for you. It's the update which implements the program of upgrade automatically, even if you want Windows 10 is easier to get the ISO and run the installation directly.

If you want you can then activate the automatic updates.

Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows.  Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) won't fix this!

HOW to do a clean install of Win7: see "using the custom installation option" and formatting the hard drive section ofhttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-7

Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) otherwise and before using a flash drive or the SD card that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:

NB: No matter what Norton or McAfee free trial which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free and download/run the removal tool before installing updates, Windows Service Packs, or updates IE and before installing your new anti-virus application (which will require WinXP SP3 must be installed).

If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, good reputation and stand-alone computer (that is, not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) repair facility.

  • Could not start the automatic updates. Get an error that Windows cannot check the updates, D0000034 after the failure of the Java updates

OP: Action Center... PC problem: 1 important message

After the failure of the attempt to install the JAVA update, I received this message from Action Center... Windows cannot check the updates. So I was taken to the dialog box and retried to check the updates of windows fails again with the code D0000034. Also did a system restore to the place before the installation of JAVA update attempt, but was no help. Can you help me?

    Hello Irfan,

Thanks again for your response. Since your last I discovered through my system status (Control Panel), I wrote that my product ID and the Windows 7 activation status not available. So I followed instuctions to help and microsoft support to activate.  Yet once, I got the error code D0000034 as before with the problem of update. However, I was given the opportunity to phone, but received no phone #. I bought the DVD of Windows 7 and installed on the PC that was custom built for me.  On the site Web microsoft help and support, I was asked for the product ID, which according to them is a # 20 numbers.  Not the only one, I have is the product key which is one 25-alpha-numeric.  I tried to enter only and does not pass.  This is why I say that I can pay for help since I did not ' have the product ID.  Maybe it isn't your area of expertise, Irfan, but I was hoping... I re - install windows on last April when I got in trouble and probably did not re - activate? What do you think?  If you can get back on track, I would be very grateful and thank you once again to be a big help!

Please ignore above request. I have since re-activated Windows and the problem was solved with technical assistance telephone and thank you again for your help, Irfan. Also thanks to all the people answering the phone at microsoft. The experience I had was really a pleasure. I wasn't expecting such an attitude courteous and professional.

    Keep up the good work,

  • After that initial Windows 7 64 bit update later, unable to connect to services window or microsoft...

Just purchased and built a new computer at the beginning of March. Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit installed and ran the updates immediately. I realized last week that I couldn't connect to a lot of windows and microsoft services. are examples, IE x 64(but the regular one works?), zune Installer (just service does not work try again later), online help windows (cannot connect), but probably the most important is windows is a no go (gets and error message: Windows update cannot check the updates because the service is not running.) You may have to restart your computer)

Please help, as I said I'm under 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate, the update I had seems to be KB979306 on March 3, 2010 (of course all my updates say March 3, 2010, but is the top of the list, so I guess that's the most recent).

Thank you for your time and any advice you can give.

    no anti-virus or anti-spyware still...

    Not good! See...
