with paragraph styles nested numbering problem

Is there a way to keep a paragraph number list style to pick up other numbers of paragraph style lists?

temp1.gif

The number of the Figure should be "Figure 5" and the style of list number below it should start at 2.

I have a document of great size with lots of cases like this.

Thanks in advance. !

That's all!

Thank you Salah!

  • Problem with paragraph styles.

    Hello

I'm having a problem with a site paragraph styles. I created and applied h1, h2 tags etc. to help SEO and everything seemed to work very well so I went to other areas of the site. To revise accordingly the site I decided I want to change some of the tags, however paragraph styles, I created have disappeared since the paragraph style window.

The problem I have now is that when I write the site the tags are still there in the html code. Is there a way to restore the paragraph currently on a site styles in the paragraph styles selection window?

  • Problems with paragraph styles in CS4?

Let me start by saying that I recently switched from Quark, so I'm really a newbie in InDesign. I was watching videos as much as possible, but can't seem to find the answers to questions like that.

I've been taking the old brochures that have been created in ID3 and sticky type and pictures in a new format that has been created in ID4. The new format has already created with the update fonts and other formatting paragraph styles as well.

When I circulate in all the new type and click the style sheet, it does not change the correct font type and size, but there is in the paragraph of formats that are not updated. For example: the whole paragraph (according to the applied style) should be the book of Gotham, but even after you apply the style to it, part of it remains "BOLD" Gotham. He has been "BOLD" in the previous version of the document, but must be regular in this one.

Why, when I apply the style, it does not the whole paragraph?

I can think of a few possibilities, but the I would like to write specific instructions vary from one case to another. The find/replace menu is invaluable here. I could find everything he scored with a given character style and replace [none], replace by other layout specified shape or replace with a different character style that I could then remove. Note that when you delete a character style, you can choose to replace it with a different style of character or to preserve formatting after the character style has disappeared.

  • Possible bug with paragraph styles?

Make a page with three breakpoints

Add a block of text for the breakpoint

Type "The CO2 is carbon dioxide" in text

Format of the text frame in red "BOLD" (from the text window)

Click on 'Create a new style of the applied attributes' (in the window paragraph styles)

Apply the new style to two other break points

Select the number 2 in the largest block of breakpoint text and format it as a script (from the text window)

Select the text block, and then select 'Copy the formatting of the text-> all breakpoints'

Check that all three break points seem correct

    Save the Muse site

    Narrow muse site

    Site open from muse

Note that the formatting has been removed from all three break points

    Anyone else do this?

The only workaround that I understood is not to copy text formatting to all the break points. He made the very tedious text formatting, but seems to work.

    Hi williamb72631036,

I am able to reproduce the problem. You certainly found a bug, and I think you're right that this has to do with the help of "copy the text formatting of...» ». I can actually reproduce the bug without the help of paragraph styles.

The only workaround that I understood is not to copy text formatting to all the break points. He made the very tedious text formatting, but seems to work.

Rather than use the copy text formatting at all breakpoints, try switching the tool "4 t / 1 t" text in all of the breakpoints.

When the setting is "4t" (as in the screenshot), then any changes you make to the text attributes are automatically applied through breakpoints. Just be sure to return it 1 "t" If you need to make a change in a specific breakpoint. Note that this is a comprehensive framework for setting and not by text.

I hope this helps! And thanks for reporting this issue with clear steps.

  • How to change the weight of the contours with paragraph styles digitally in Illustrator CS6 (Mac)?

    Hi all

I have to define hierarchical weight in my paragraph style of - say - 12 pt. How to handle that? I can only choose from a predefined list, which is insufficient.

    illustrator-cs6-outline.png

He used to work in CS4, as you can see in the following screenshot.

    illustrator-cs4-outline.png

In addition, I work with Mac, and I was told that this "bug" is not produced on Windows... No matter what Apple autour user, who can help me here?

    Thank you

    Simon

    Same thing is happening here.

However, you can first create a type with a run of 12 points, then define a new style of paragraph, and although she says 10pt apply 12pt.

If you have not watched in graphic styles, which may be a better option for stokes. You can

    • Move the fill on top of the race (allows you to use a different color for the race, so the Moose of the doe of type sahep can not get crushed)
    • Use several surrounding type traits
    • Set the corner options for rounding

For appearance & graphic style, the secret to type must first define your background of type and outline to none (this removes the stylization to the level of the character), then apply the contours and funds in the appearance palette at the level of the type only. In this way the stylisation to fight each other.

  • Export InDesign text in a text file with paragraph styles

    Hello

is it possible to export text in InDesign in a text file with included paragraph styles?

I want not only to include the formatting of the text that I must have still all paragraph styles applied to the text after the export.

    Thank you

With the text tool in the ready to type text block. Choose file > export > RTF (Rich Text Format)

For all text to export text all images must be strung. If they don't you will have to do them individually.

If you just want a select few paragraphs then highlight and choose then export > RTF

Which can be opened in Word with all styles of tact.

It is unclear with your workflow is here, can you elaborate on what you are trying to do?

  • Paragraph styles + nesting

ID CS4 (though this applies to earlier versions):

I have a pagragraph style which is Helv Neue Medium. I've nested in a character style to apply a Helv Neue light until the first instance of Nº (french/Spanish version of #). On my English version, using the sign #, the style worked perfectly. Now, nesting helps no. instead of #, arrives until sees a N ceiling in the paragraph. Nesting does not recognize the 2 characters? If so, why is it allow you to enter more than one character in the nesting options?

Looks like rather than applying the light style at the beginning, it might be easier to GREP "BOLD" to no. style and all suite.

    NO.. + would probably work.

  • Problem with creating numbered lists the paragraph style...

I have a numbered list, using "bullets and numbers" paragraph style But I don't know how to get the numbering to work properly.

If I set the "mode" to "continue from previous" mode, whenever I use this paragraph style continuous numbering since the last issue of the previous list using this style.

If I put the 'mode' for ' start in ' a number, say '1', then all numbers in the list are this number.

I want that each list is independent of the final list. The only thing I can understand is to create a new paragraph for each list style, but which does not seem a good way to go.

I have been exploring for some time but have not been able to understand this.

Place the cursor inside your paragraph of the list where you want than to restart numbering.

    Choose from the menu:

Type > bulleted & numbered lists > restart page numbering.

  • paragraph styles

without valid reason I later move to really use paragraph styles. but I encountered a small problem. the document that I'm actually has a TON of garbage styles attached to it from the word document (which has an OCR would scan...). But right now, I'm going to have this problem when I try to apply styles for titles and whatnot, but the style is applied to more than what is highlighted, probably only indesign because I'm stressing only part of a "paragraph", and it's all 'paragraph', even if it is actually just part of a title. Is there a way for the UN-paragraphize things? For things before and after should not be the same style? Mac/CS6

As a trainer, I am obliged to pop and suggest take you back and learn the two functions that are themselves Scrums first, and then you can return to your document and hit the ground running.

Start with paragraph styles for formatting entire paragraphs:

Then use character styles to change the text in the paragraphs:

  • Paragraph styles, do weird things

I'm having a strange problem that drives me bananas.

I copy and paste a document quit in of MSWord (something I've done MANY times before without problem). For some reason, the text is placed in police Didot, all uppercase, followed 50 - although I have never and would never do that style anywhere in my document.

When I tried to use the styles I've implemented for formatting the text, they do not work. Only strange Didot font style remains. I can't replace it anyway. I went through all the settings "based on" in my style, and this font (and these settings) do not appear anywhere. It's like InDesign decided, this is the default setting for all of the text and does not allow me to change it.

If I change it manually, it works, but as soon as I try to apply a style, it immediately snaps this madness of Didot.

I have never seen this before and it keeps all my work. Any ideas?

This also occurs if I try to spent in the text of the Pages. And paste without formatting is not available as an option. Don't know what else to try.

Almost all of the issues I've seen with paragraph Styles involved a rogue character Style making its undesirable magic

  • Remove the imported chips and replace them by paragraph Style

I imported a large number of documents to PDF and I need to remove the text format for the numbering of lettering and balls and replace them with paragraph styles. I find it difficult to arrive at a text or grep search and replace for it.

So far I managed to assign bullets paragraph style, but I can't seem to remove the imported point. This is my poor attempt a search and replace. I guess it's possible to do it also for lettering and numbering?

    Screen Shot 2016-04-20 at 15.06.36.png

and that's what it looks like after the change with the ball remaining.

    Screen Shot 2016-04-20 at 15.13.17.png

Good question! Can anyone chime in with the 1-step process, but it is darn fast than two, especially if you save the first query:

    • Search: Bullet tab
    • Change of: Para style balls
    • All changes

    • Click on the trash can to delete the paragraph style
    • All changes

    Fact.

With GREP, you might find one or several characters followed in a tab at the beginning of a paragraph (^. + ^ t) to locate any list, but you would need to set the style of bullets to bullets, the style of numbering of numbers and the AlphaNumbering style to the letters, so I don't see a benefit.

  • Question of paragraph style

I seem to be having a weird problem with paragraph styles.

I have a heading style linked to the h1 in big orange text (Tenso Black, pt 24) tag.

I also have a paragraph style related to the p tag for my body to the black text (Cantarell, 14pt,).

My question so that, despite the h1 style definition and subsection of style that are obviously not to be completely different, the text always in style h1.  In fact, the image, I enclose below I have removed the completely normal h1 style and the style of tag p (and you can see the style settings clearly Mbbls, black, 14 PT...) but if I highlight text and apply this style turns into orange text (as you can see to the right of the image).

If I delete the paragraph style (so I have no style), and then type the text in Cantarell, black 14pt, etc., as soon as I save the style to the p, the orange text changes tag.  If I copy the text of the paragraph Canterell in a new text box, it always sticks orange...

Is this a bug or am I doing something stupid?

    textissue.png

    Hello

Well, I think I've sorted it.  You mentioned character styles, and Yes, there is a defined character style (the text in orange).  It is this style of character that would repeal all paragraph styles.  I deleted the character style and now I can apply and implement paragraph styles.  That said, I've not really (knowingly) implemented this style of character.

    See you soon.

  • Paragraph styles are not properly in automatic Table of contents

    Hi all

I'm currently busy with the lay-out of my doctoral thesis in Indesign CS6. I did the separate files for each chapter, after that, I joined the files in a document of a book. Now, I need to create a table of contents and want to do using the Table of contents style.

I've already customized a table style content in which I said Indesign which paragraph styles should be included in the table of contents. I also created new paragraph styles to use as entry style. When you create a table of contents the lay-out seems just perfect, except that I set the text for being "fat" in my paragraph style, but it comes in the form of 'regular' text in my table of contents. Now I can pass this "BOLD" text by selecting it and alt + shift clicking on the paragraph style in the paragraph style menu. Problem is that after updating the table of contents text back to "regular". All the other stuff that I defined in the paragraph for entry style style (e.g., tablets, the font size, leading) are applied.

How can I solve this problem? I would appreciate your comments, because it's annoying me a lot: S.

    Thanks a lot already!

Did you apply a character style to your topics throughout the book?

If so, this could cause the erratic behavior that you see.

Check your table of contents update to see if there is a character applied to the imported text style.

  • How to insert bullets in the middle of a paragraph style?

For my business, I create auto-generated CVs. Due to the limitations of the program used to automatically generate the CV, I can only use a paragraph style nested throughout the entire document. That's what I would like to a paragraph style to look like:

    COMMERCIAL:

    • Renovation of the clinic, 2008

    Role: Project Manager

    Merck, Kirkland (Quebec)

I know how to insert a hyphen at the beginning of a paragraph style, but how indicate I want chips to start on the 3rd line of the paragraph and stop 2-the last line of the paragraph?

You will need to enter manually. Styles cannot add text, only format.

Automated bullets are only accessible to the general public for the start of a paragraph and cannot apply to the middle. You can use find/replace to add, possibly, but it doesn't look like me you have a model that is sufficiently well defined to do any sort of work of automation.

  • Remove based on the substituted paragraph style attributes

Is there a way to clear the attributes that you put in a "based on" paragraph style, on the part of start by resetting to the base?

    For example:

    • 1 a paragraph style track set to + 10.
    • You create 2 of paragraph 1-based Style and made several substitutions, including change tracking to + 5.
    • Now you realize you want the two styles have the same follow-up and you want to experiment with this setting.

How can you erase what has been entered in the Style 2, so that any changes made to the Style 1 applies to the 2 Style once again? I realize that it is possible with character styles, but after scouring the net, I think that this should not be possible with paragraph styles.

Am I wrong? If this is not the case, why it should not be possible?

    Thank you.

Go to the 2 paragraph style definition and reset the traking to the same value as the base style. It becomes as well as watt do you the basic style. Only the attributes that are different are locked.
