(With WAN replcation) failover cluster

Hello
We have 3 different groups with caches which are synchronized via the WAN replication. Now, we are planning to implement the cluster failover in which if a cluster is unavailable or unstable client (uses TCP extend) would failover to another cluster.

Now, it is easy to configure the client by mentioning same cache with different names in different groups. But what makes configuring complex and error prone, especially when the number of clusters, but also caches should increase.

So what I'm looking for is a way I can change the schema of underlying caching for a given cache name. So that I can point dynamically to the other cluster without having to restart my client.

Or if there a better way to do it, clues are welcome :)

Thank you
Kishore s.

Hello
I don't know if that's what you're looking for, but I have in past used ConfigurableCacheFactory to solve a similar problem.
Essentially, I create a client to a cluster using ConfigurableCacheFactory connection, I created by instantiating a DefaultConfigurableCacheFactory by the way of an XmlDocument which essentially my client configuration file for consistency. Of the ConfigurableCacheFactory, you can create a CacheService and connect according to normal.
Now if you have a power failure you can create another foregoing a cluster, closing the existing service of course.
Kind regards
Nick

  • SQL Server 2008 R2 taken Failover Cluster support in ESXi 6?

    Hi guys

I think that it is based on the many articles of MS and VMWare I was wading in but did anyone have knowledge if a SQL Server 2008 R2 failover cluster is supported on ESXi 6?

I think we have to run on a Windows Server 2012 R2 operating system unless we are forced to stick with Server 2008 R2 for reasons of inheritance

    Thanks for the tips

Yes, have a look here: VMware KB: Microsoft Clustering on VMware vSphere: guidelines for supported configurations

  • Is Microsoft Failover Cluster ESXi 4.1 Shared Disk of NFS data store, it supported?

Is Microsoft Failover Cluster ESXi 4.1 Shared Disk of NFS data store, it supported?

We have a request from MS Failover Cluster configuration on Windows 2008 R2 2 guests with a storage shared for a web application. However, there is no VMFS storage of data or the ability of the CF to presending RDM. So, I created the disks shared on a NFS datastore using option "Setup for Failover Clustering and Microsoft Cluster Service" and have added the cluster disk and tested successful failover.

But the MS cluster validation control cancelled storage and I want to know if that configuration is not taken because of supported.

    A notice would be useful.

We are also working on setting up a cluster of ESXi for iSCSI storage, which can be leveraed for this purpose.

    Shyam-

    Its not supported.

4.1, your only options supported are:

    • CF storage with pRDMs
    • iSCSI storage with initiators guest.
  • Configurations of Microsoft - what to do with IIS and SQL Cluster

    Hello

I have a band with 3 hosts vSphere cluster. Now I'm going to create my SQL Server and IIS servers. I setup IIS to use network load balancing, and I was thinking about using Microsoft Failover Cluster in win 2008 for my SQL servers. But after checking this doc on http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_40_mscs.pdf , it seems clear that my setup is not supported. I have an iSCSI SAN and I my hosts in the cluster. So what is the best way to consolidate my SQL servers in vmware?

    Thank you

Interesting, you raise a good point.

I never thought about the downtime of the VM alone in a VMware HA scenario vs two separate MV in a MSCS scenario.

Obviously in such a perspective FT would be of no use as the second hidden VM obscures what the master did... If you are servicing the master that the slave gets thus maintained at the same point in time.

If 2 hours is not enough to deal with a single virtual machine, I think your only choice is to stay on a physical cluster. I have limitations in the new pdf vSphere that you posted above and they are even worse than before. I don't see how one could ever use MSCS on vSphere if they respect these limits.

  • Creating a failover cluster Windows 2008 on ESX 3.5

    Hello

I would like to create a cluster Windows 2008 on ESX 3.5.  As I understand it browse the forums supporting parallel SCSI as a type of shared bus was abandoned for Failover Clustering in Windows Server 2008.  To enable clustering, you need to use iSCSI on a target server.  Additional costs of license option for the introduction of a target server.

Is ESX 3.5 update to support Windows 2008 failover clustering?  If so, when?

Is there another solution that involves no additional cost?  I watched StarWind but the free version does not give us enough resources that is necessary.

How ESX 4.0 supports Windows 2008 failover cluster?

    Thank you

    Brian

In ESX 3.5, you can do a 2008 failover cluster with a software initiator in the node Windows 2008.

    For ESX 4 no problem.

  • The 9/10 CF Enterprise is required to create a failover cluster?

    Hi all

I just had one heck of a week of recovery from our production of Coldfusion environment. I think that he convinced us to create a high availability/failover for the site.

My question is is business of 9/10 CF required to create a failover cluster?

  • Problem with EqualLogic / MPIO / failover

We ran a few tests in our environment with results less than ideal. Our environment is made up of 6 vSphere4 hosts a cluster connected to approximately 10 VMFS volumes. Each host has a vSwitch dedicated with two natachasery, 3 vmkernel NIC ports and each NETWORK adapter is connected to a different physical switch. We put the path of Round Robin policy so each volume has 6 paths of assets. On the side of EqualLogic, we have 3 members in a group, a pool for this group, and the controllers are connected to / balanced between these same two physical switches (5020 Nexus). This was based on the guide from the EqualLogic site. http://www.equallogic.com/resourcecenter/assetview.aspx?id=8453

Our problem is when we try to test the failover / availability by simulating a failure of the switch. The EqualLogic group sees many timeouts / connection errors, but there still NIC is active on the active controller, so there is no controller failover. The hosts lose one of the two network adapters on the storage vSwitch, but even with a NETWORK card and online all VMFS volumes disappear from all hosts. When we make the switch online, all VMFS volumes return without taking corrective measures and virtual machines appear as if nothing happened. Try to use virtual machines, we see performance degradation until we have rescan / clean storage communication and then everything returns to normal.

We are at a loss on where to start. We followed the recommendations of EqualLogic and of course being the guy from VMware that I pointed to storage. The hosts always show active paths when this happens and errors are the waiting times of connection which is the other reason, I think it would be good to start on the side storage. Someone out there with similar configurations which may have run into something similar?

+The physical switches are independent.- + Overall, it's really jumping on me. All that I have worked with in EQL, you need to have some sort of connection between these two switches for balancing to work properly. When you say independent what do you mean? By doc of Dell, it indicates that the two switches need a group LAG/Etherchannel or stacked to take advantage of the LB correctly on the berries... I just have two PS4000 and set up with two 5424 PC with an offset of 4GB with no problems. The rest of your looks of thin configuration, should not have other problems on the side of VMware, it's certainly side of the switch.

Maybe someone with more experience high-end Cisco can chime on what type of configuration you need between switches. I may be an another Dell doc that treats the necessary switching configurations.

  • With WAN Miniport problem when you configure the VPN in Windows 7 server

I tried to make my computer a VPN server by establishing a "new incoming connection" under connections in the network and sharing Center. Originally, she she started but showed no WAN Miniport connections. I could not connect to this VPN with my other computer.

    What I've done so far:

    • I have 'upgrade' all WAN Miniports in 'MAC Bridge miniport driver' Device Manager (since I couldn't uninstall them as they were) and then uninstall all WAN miniports. I restarted my computer and then I tried the device drivers to install automatically, but only a few installed successfully.
    • Then, I downloaded the latest WDK (8.1) and tried to reinstall all Miniports WAN via devcon.exe with the command "devcon.exe install c:\windows\inf\netrasa.inf MS_PptpMiniport. He says that the node has been created, but it could not install the drivers. I restarted my computer, but some of these minis ports appeared as 'Unknown' in Device Manager, while others appeared with their names but with numbers attached because I tried a few times, Ex: "Miniport network EXTENDED (IP) #3".»

from my understanding, I need at least WAN Miniport pptp to work for VPN to work. I don't know what to do at this point. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • 6120 link down on mgmt0 triggers not UCS Manager failover cluster - is?

    Hello friends

We have recently installed a cluster consisting of two 6120 UCS s configured for HA. When executing fail during test cases, we removed the network cable in mgmt0 on 6120 elementary. Immediately the cluster IP address is not responding ping (as expected) and we lost connectivity to the UCS Manager GUI (also as expected.) At one point, however, we expected the 6120 subordinate to detect that this link was down and launch a failure over the UCS. This is not moved after 20 minutes of waiting.

    My questions are the following:

    1. Is this expected behavior?
    2. If this is not the case, what should us review to ensure that failover occurs in the future?

I know we can force a failover of the subordinate by issuing a command to the main cluster of local-mgmt but would be interested to see if it should be automatically produced on the failure of primary mgmt0 binding.

    Thank you for your time.

Configured by default which is the expected behavior.

You can configure management interface and failover if the management interface loses connectivity such as your test scenario.  That's what you're looking for.

What I mean with the routing is a routing protocol or static routes the SAA can choose between interfaces to establish the tunnel.

If the ASA has the card encryption applied to two interfaces, then one should be used as primary and the other as backup.

How will be the ASA choose which is better? Via the routing.

If you use a routing protocol, the ASA will be known which interface to send packets every time, but if using static routes, you need to change the metric and configuring IP SLA.
