XP has no DVD-ROM when purchasing drive

When I bought my Microsoft Windows XP SP2 first, it doesn't have a DVD - ROM drive. How can I change my current drive, a CD-ROM drive, a DVD - ROM drive quickly, efficiently and without a purchase?

You cannot change the hardware specifications of your existing optical drive. Buy a DVD - RW drive (no interest in buying a ROM) and install it. It is easy enough to install an optical drive. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

I have windows vista on my laptop and I have a dvd - rom drive that used to work, now, he's not even appear on the computer.  How can I reinstall the drive?

    Hello

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

  • Problem installing Windows 7 - DVD - ROM driver

I am trying to install Windows 7 64 bit on my i7 desktop computer.

After the initial installation (copying files), in the second stage (extension of Windows files) around 93 to 98% of the process, I get an error message indicating "Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupted or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code 0 x 80070017'.»
I use a new disc to install Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. After retrying the installation, I am asked to install a driver for my DVD-ROM: "A required CD/DVD drive driver is missing. If you have a driver on floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert now".» After inserting my CD driver DVD - ROM in the drive, a dialog saying 'no device drivers were found' is displayed. How can I resolve this problem and install Windows 7?

    Thanks for your quick response.

I tried both of your suggestions, without a bit of luck.
After reading a few posts about this error, it occurred to disconnect me my secondary drive mounted recently I bought specifically for this installation (to use as slaves).
My DVD player nor my secondary HARD drive had riders. Specifically, I looked online on the website of the manufacturer of my HARD drive to slave jumper configuration, but found nothing. After just mount the disk "as-is", it worked.
So in summary, my problem was that it had to have been a conflict between the secondary HARD drive and the DVD drive. After unplugging the HDD of the motherboard installation (continued) without problem. Hope this helps someone else as well.
And thanks again for your help.
  • Satellite P10-304-DVD-ROM/CD-RW questions!

    Hello world

I own one of the original computers Satellite P10-304, which has a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive. For these last months, we have one or two problems with that. It was a little skittish in which CD it reads, but in the last days he almost completely stopped read correctly (audio/data) CD / DVDs. He doesn't seem to know they are there. However, the Player opens and runs well, as if it were playing the CD, but nothing happens on the PC.

Curiously, I then looked on the list of the system, and the DVD-ROM/CD-RW driver had an excalamation mark. Even more curiously, the pilot was called TOSIICA! DWD something or other, when I'm sure it should have been DVD TOSHIBA etc.etc. Following the instructions, I uninstalled and then tried to reinstall, but it does not appear now when I try to add hardware.

    Confusing.

I would be very grateful if anyone has any suggestions?

    See you soon,.

    Ian.

    Hello

It looks like a car damage registry entry.
But that is only my suggestion. The other possibility is broken (lens calibration problem) by car.
You say that you have already removed the drive from the Device Manager, but the peut t OS recognizes the drive again. Well, in this case one of the possibilities is to use the System Restore tool or retrieve the device with the recovery CD.
But if the drive is broken recovery procedure doesn t help. In this case, only the replacement of the drive can solve this problem.

  • Dimension 9200 put upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 and two DVD Rom Sony DVD +-RW AQ160S do not work.

Recently, I brought in my Dim 9200 desktop purchased in 2006 to have installed Windows 7. When I got home, I thought everything was working fine, but I had not noticed at the time there was only a C drive which stood under 'my computer '. I live in a remote area and I would rather not return the computer at this point to check it out. I get an error code 32 when I go in the Manager of devices for readers. I tried to find new drivers, but windows tells me that they have installed the drivers up to date. I need help on what to do to solve my problem.

The dvd rom and dvd +-rw were the original disks when purchasing.

They appear as Sony DVD +-RW AW - AQ160S and HL-DT-ST DVD - rom GDR H10N in my system, if this is useful.

The drivers, see the system32\drivers\cdrom.sys for the DVD-ROM and the driver shows that windows\system32\drivers\PxHIpa64.sys Sony

I appreciate any help at all with this.

    Hello

1, you can set the default BIOS with BIOS loading and the Home key settings!

2, check if, www.toshiba-europe.com/storage, an update of the firmware of your player is available!
And then try to do, maybe it will help!

Otherwise, I think your drive is broken and the failure can only be fixed with a replacement!

  • Qosmio G30 - DVD-ROM drive has stopped working

I have a Qosmio G30 age of 3 years and the DVD - ROM drive has stopped working.

He still pulls in, but it will not read or burn discs.

I received a quote of £360 Toshiba to adapt to a new one that seems generous.

Anyone know where I could get it fixed cheaper than you?
Or better yet... anyone know where I can I get it fixed?

    David Hutchinson

    Hello
This is not an answer to your question but can solve the problem if it is the same that I had.
In my case, the drive tries to spin but it slips. Only the motor shaft rotates and the drive remains at low revolutions that were not even stationary.
The problem was caused by the fact that the plastic part (black color) of the mechanism which engages the disc (CD or DVD) slips on the
motor drive, axle and th couldn't do a full rotation or runs at the specified speed.
The solution is to delete the article in plastic and put a small amount of super glue on the axle and then put it back.

Where there is a similar issue, I hope that solve you it like I did.
