This machine is old, but my CAD system running is not on windows 7 (my other machine), so I need to keep this than that one will.

Hello DONALDRADKE,

Here is a link that will help find if you are running a 32-bit or 64-bit.

    Hello

HP Advisor will never recognize a Norton installation - if you are using another security software it will not be detected.  It's just a limitation of demand and nothing to be concerned about security wise.

"Do I have to manually disable or uninstall Windows Defender, if I use Microsoft Security Essentials?
A: If Microsoft Security Essentials did not automatically disable Windows Defender in Vista or Windows 7, you must turn off to avoid conflicts. Windows Defender can't be uninstalled Vista or Windows 7.
If Microsoft Security Essentials does not automatically uninstall Windows Defender on XP, you must manually uninstall Windows Defender through Control Panel of configuration/Add / Remove programs. »

  • Windows Security Essentials with Kaspersky Internet Security 2011

    Dear Forum members

I just received email from Microsoft on Windows Security Essentials installation, but I have Kaspersky 2011, which was given to me by my Bank, those two would work together or should I just continue with what I have.

I also have full Advance PC system supported and I just got my computer running the best I got a PC of my own work.

I hope you can confirm that I can continue or if I can add the two together.

Hope to hear from you all soon.

    Yours Sincerely

You should never run more than one anti-virus program. Two
at the same time can affect your performance and exposes you to the
    risk of conflicts between them.

Which of the two should run? Personally, I think that Microsoft Security
    Essentials is the best choice.

Regarding Advance PC support system, I strongly suggest that empty you
She immediately.  Registry cleaning programs are all snake oil.
The registry cleaning is not necessary and dangerous. Leave the
Only registry and do not use any registry cleaner. Despite what a lot
people think, and try to which suppliers of software record cleaning
convince you to have used really doesn't hurt registry entries
    you.
The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner by mistake
delete an entry you need is much greater than any potential benefit
    It can have.

    http://blogs.technet.com/markrussinovich/Archive/2005/10/02/registry-junk-a-Windows-fact-of-life.aspx

Let me stress that neither me nor anyone else who warns the
use of registry cleaners never said that they always cause
problems. If they have always caused problems, they would disappear from
the market almost immediately. Many people have used a registry
cleaner and never had a problem with it.

The problem with a registry cleaner is that it carries with it
the risk of a significant problem. And since there is no
benefits of using a registry cleaner, running that risk is a very bad
    good deal.

  • If I had a non - Genuine Windows XP installed on my PC I would install Windows Security Essentials program?

I upgraded my ram and since then I have to the notifaction of non-genuine windows and can not use my PC, but a few weeks before this happened, I installed Windows Security Essentials, I read someware that if I had a none genuine product, then I wouldn't be able to uploaded this, is this true? If so, what is my next moves to make my PC work again as I don't have the product key.

    Hi tozer,.

As you have installed windows security essentials before upgrading the RAM, you were able to install the same.

You can check the article: Genuine Windows: frequently asked questions: (Section: if my computer is running non-genuine Windows can he yet to receive critical security updates?): http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/genuine/faq

  • is windows security essentials, a complete antivirus software

I use only the windows security essential as long as my anti virus. is that what I should buy another program antivirus for the protection of the internet and full protection?

How can I check my windows security essentials is original and how can check its validity be expired.

MSE is a pretty good protection AV. And it is free :)

If you downloaded it from MS - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/products/security-essentials its origin.

If you click on its icon in the taskbar (green icon - all OK) tab will tell when it has been updated and the dates of virus definition file.

Personally, for the protection of the VA, if you have the MSE installed, ongoing execution and up to date, then you are basically covered.

However, make sure you have a firewall is installed and running and you can check the firewall here - https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 , -click and run at least a test of common ports. You should see a green 'SUCCESS' and ports must be reported as STEALTH.

However, not every AV program will catch all the viruses, so it is advisable to have a back up. Malwarebytes (free) is a good backup. Download, install and keep up-to-date (right click on its icon and 'run as administrator' to update) and manually run a scan of the PC from time to time or if you think that something can be a problem. Also after that update you can right click on any file and check trust individual, it's good for all the downloads you make (from known sites of security of course)

Also, very important to keep your PC up-to-date both the W7 itself and the programs you use i.e. to keep FireFox, java, flash etc. updated IF you use them.

  • analysis of missed Windows Security Essentials

I have installed Windows Security Essentials on many PCs - Vista, XP and 7 - to my friends.  I noticed that when WSE is missing a scheduled scan (maybe the computer is turned off), it does not catch and preform analysis effectively.  For example, my Windows 7 PC is now in its 3rd week after missing a weekly scan.  WSE should not go ahead and perform the analysis subsequently, or is it necessary to scan manually?

  • Security Center does not recognize the Windows Security Essentials

Windows Security Essentials does not seem to register with Security Center.  Security Center reports that no Virus protection is enabled.

    1. I installed Windows XP 32 - bit WGA, activated the product and updated to SP3.

2 security Center starts giving Windows security alerts for Virus protection, because none has been installed.

    3. I installed McAffee VirusScan.

4 security Center stopped giving Windows security alerts for Virus protection.

    5. I uninstalled McAffee VirusScan.

6 security Center has resumed giving Windows security alerts for protection against the viruses as before.

    7. I installed Windows Windows Security Essentials and rebooted.

    8. I tried to uninstall and reinstall Windows Security Essentials with no joy.

Windows Security Essentials installation did not prevent Windows security alerts.  No Windows Security Essentials registry entry will appear in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Security Center and monitoring.  If Microsoft consider essential security to be an antivirus product, then how to Windows Security Essentials register with Security Center?

I understand that this is an information and alert issue only.  I understand that Windows Security Essentials works actually ok.  I am particularly concerned by the reports.  It conditions my deployment of Windows Home Server.  Deactivation of surveillance or the alert is not a solution, just a poor quality work around.

In a previous thread, the author of this question even abandoned and has not requested additional assistance.  An explanation was given (relevant for Windows 7), but no solution has been offered.  Windows XP has not been addressed.   http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-security/the-Security-Center-has-not-recorded-an-anti-virus/15ae2383-7ced-4850-A863-f7eb8cc90ee5

I had the same problem for a while now (I'm on xp) and have searched the Internet for a solution but found nothing at the moment.

  • Windows Security Essentials disabled

I had Windows Security Essentials installed and running on my computer for a couple of years or more with no problems.   The Security Essentials icon in the taskbar at the bottom of my screen. Tonight, I was looking at on the internet.  When I clicked on a link to a site found by Google (almost any site) I would be redirected to another site - usually a site saying that there is something wrong with my computer.  When I looked for the icon Security Essentials in my taskbar, what it was not there when I went to my list of programs and open Security Essentials it would start but then immediately closed.  Any thoughts on what is happening?  On what do I do?

It seems that you have inadvertently installed a browser redirection that has disabled Microsoft Security Essentials.

  • I uninstalled Windows Security Essentials

Recently, I uninstalled WSE as I already have McAfee and told two security systems could be dangerous? Now, I have a number of programs in my download folder with blue/gold screens on them. One of the ones I tried to re load is Realplayer (even with their help) and the desktop icon is back with this "shield" above and the program will not download any videos from any source. Is this security shield the problem and how do I get rid of him. I thought uninstall Windows Security Essentials that would result all existing blocks?

  • Windows Security Essentials problems

I have MS Windows Security Essentials installed on a laptop running Windows 7 64-bit. As much as I know it worked very well, but in the last day or two, my system slowed down and I'm taken to strange Web sites when I click on the links for some of my research. I tried to open the Essentilas of security programs, it flashed open for a little while and then disappears. I uninstalled and reinstalled and get the same results. When I go through the control panel and check where it says the Service Windows security can not be started.

  • Micrtosoft Software Distribution Service 3.0 can automatically download & install if I do not use Microsoft Security Essentials? -Malware?

XP pro with Service Pack 3 on 10 years, Dell Dimension 4500.  I use NOT of MSE.  I use AVG, malware protection.  I authorize updates from Microsoft automatically download but I decide to install.  13/03/13, I noticed that my PC had set a new restore point called "Software Distribution Service 3.0". Checking Windows Update I found 8 updates which appear legitimate 3/13 but I did not knowingly take any action to install them.  Have I not malware?  If so, how can I recover?

    Updates were:

    KB2807986 for a Note

    KB2687505 to the Visio Viewer

    KB890830 for malicious...

    KB982726 for Office 2010

    KB2767886 also for Office 2010

    KB2809289 for IE 8

    KB2814124 for Silverlight

    KB2553501 for filter Pack 2.0

    Thank you

When you install Office 2010, Silverlight, Windows Live Essentials or Microsoft Security Essentials, you can make two changes:

1 Microsoft Update (vs Windows Update) becomes your update by default source (that is, if she had not already the default); [1] and...

2 automatic updates will reset the automatic configuration by default (that is, if one of the other options had been selected.)

[The above is specified in the EULA that you accept when you install one of the requests, but it is "buried" in the small print and difficult to anyone who bothers to read.]

Since you had MS Office 2010 installed for a while, chances are that Microsoft Update was already your default. So, it seems that #2 happened to you after you have installed Windows Live Mail (part of Windows Live Essentials) a few weeks ago (i.e. the or after 12 February).

If you have not already done so, do not hesitate to change your automatic updates affecting the 'download but do not automatically install... '. "option.

    ======================================================

[1] so that Windows Update provides updates specifically for Windows, Microsoft Update expands the service to download and install updates for other Microsoft software (MS Office 2010, Silverlight, Windows Live Essentials and Microsoft Security Essentials).
