'Yes' grayed on user account control

I tried to use netplwiz.exe to bypass the logon screen and must have something messed up.  Whenever I try to do anything that requires administrator privileges, the "are you sure?" appears.  The 'Yes' button is gray and all it will allow me to click 'no '.  What can I do about it?

  • Need to change user account control settings, but cannot access (windows 7Prof.-64 bits)

    Hello

With Windows 7 Professional 64 bit laptop

I am the 'Standard user' and the only user of my laptop.  I don't know if I have an administrator account.  I could have or something with a similar name when first setting up laptop and loading Windows program (a few years ago).  But I remember he was causing Windows always show both accounts and choose one to log-in to.  I didn't want no choice since I am the only user of the laptop, so I understood how to make to get rid of the other account (admin?) and kept the Standard user because 'Help' instructions, said it should be used.

There are so many programs that I can not open because the user account control box "do allow you the following program to make changes...?   The choice of 'Yes' is NEVER highlighted or available - that the choice of the 'no' can be clicked.  And the same dialogue box asks also but it is not a place to type the password "Administrator".  I don't even have a Director. Password, or a password to the Standard user account.

And I am referring to all kinds of programs that can not open, as "Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool" that I downloaded from the Microsoft Web site.  Or I went into control panel 'User account', but try clicking on 'Change settings User Account Control' brings the same view, "do allow you the following program to make changes to the computer?  Or when, on the page of computer system, I can't access 'Advanced System Settings' due to the same dialog box.

How to solve this problem?  I'd rather not have the choice of Auditors when Windows opens.  I looked through other similar topics here (only Windows 7 partners), and some seek to make changes to the registry.  It's very intimidating for me.  I'm not a computer scientist at all, but fairly intuitive with the computer.  The problem cornered me.  Another opinion on a thread is said to use "Fix It".  This program is no longer available (we now 2016).  I also experienced this problem all this time but am pretty frustrated and wanted to try the job.

Should I re - load the Windows program and do something else?

I hope someone can provide some less intimidating process that touch the registry to fix this.  I really appreciate it.

    Thank you!

    Massachusetts

I could have or something with a similar name when first setting up laptop and loading Windows program (a few years ago).

    -> Yes, you did.

I understood how to make to get rid of the other account (admin?) and kept the Standard user because 'Help' instructions, said it should be used.

-> It was a bad decision. It was equivalent to throw out your safe master key. There is a much better method to avoid the choice between multiple accounts.

I don't even have a Director. Password, or a password to the Standard user account.

-> You had an admin password when your first install Windows.

I'd rather not have the choice of Auditors when Windows opens.

-> It takes 30 seconds to remove this choice, without loss of the admin account.

Some seek to make changes to the registry.

-> Hacking the registry does not restore your account admin. 'Fix It' will not fix it either.

Should I re - load the Windows program and do something else?

-> Your first step must be to determine what accounts you have and whether they are active. It is done as follows:

    1. Mark the first line of code below with your mouse, then press Ctrl + C to copy it.
    2. Click the Start button, press Ctrl + V to paste the code in the run box, and then press ENTER.
    3. Marks of the second line of code below with your mouse, then press Ctrl + C to copy it.
    4. Click the Start button, press Ctrl + V to paste the code in the run box, and then press ENTER.
    5. Open the desktop Accounts.txt file, then copy & paste its contents into your answer.

    cmd.exe /c users > '% userprofile%\Desktop\Accounts.txt '.

    cmd.exe /c net localgroup administrators > '% userprofile%\Desktop\Accounts.txt '.

I get a msg from user account control... want to allow you... unknown pub, original Dr. hard hpDST.exe.   He is not happy with an answer Yes or no and continues to return.    Apprec any help.  Thank you.

    Hello

HpDST.exe is a type of EXE file associated with the Installation Manager developed by HP for the Windows operating system.

HP Setup Manager is a software developed by Hewlett-Packard. It is usually installed with most of the new Hewlett-Packard computers.

You can uninstall HP Setup Manager from your computer by using the Add/Remove Programs feature in the Control Panel window.

    1. In the start menu (Windows 8, right-click right lower left corner of the screen), click Control Panel, and then, under programs, do one of the following values:

      • Windows Vista/7/8: Click on uninstall a program.
      • Windows XP: Click Add or remove programs.
    2. When you find the HP installation Manager program, click it, and then do one of the following:
      • Windows Vista/7/8: Click on uninstall.
      • Windows XP: Click on the tab to remove or change/remove (to the right of the program).
    3. Follow the prompts. A progress bar shows you how much time it will take to remove the HP Installation Manager.

Once done, you can go to the HP support site and reinstall the HP configuration manager.

  • Excel and user account control

I have a shortcut to an Excel spreadsheet saved on my desktop.  I use is ever day.  Everytime I open it I have to click Yes on the popup screen that asks do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer.  How can I keep my UAC control level but allow Excel spent?

UAC should not contest an Excel file, if the system is working properly.  I have my UAC set to top & I use Excel files without any problem.

You will probably get better help in MS Office Excel forum but do these controls first:

    2. If you open Excel, and then use to open the file, it opens correctly?

I guess that check 4 will solve your problem, but if not, see if the users Office Forum can help you further.

  • Get fast user account control

Original title: a shortcut, I have long used now I request "do allow you the following program to make changes to this computer?" when I click it. How is this happen and how do I do stop asking me?

    Here's the situation:

    (1) I have a shortcut icon for "go to my pc" on my desktop. I could always click here and download my login screen (I use Gotomypc daily for work).

    (2) recently my updates Windows upgraded my IE 9 to 10 IE without asking to tell me. I didn't like it and it wasn't compatible with my printer, so I came here, discovered how to get rid of the upgrade and re - download the previous version.

    (3) I wanted to avoid leaving Windows pass me again, so I fiddled around so that Windows has asked me before it updated again.

I don't really know what I was doing, I was just trying my best. I'm not really all that tech savvy.

    (4) now, whenever I click on my thumb for the icon of my pc, a message appears asking "do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer? It says 'User Account Control' on the top bar, it pings and I have to click Yes to continue. This annoys me and I can't understand what it takes to make it go back to the way it was. I also note that the icon has a small checkered blue top and yellow badge which did not previously exist.

    (5) I tried to remove the shortcut icon, and download it again, but it just comes back the same way.

Please help - tell me what I need to do to remove the icon for this control of user account control. I am the 'administrator', why can't tell it what to do?

PS - I didn't know really what "about Windows" to choose! This is probably in the wrong place...

  • Whats stopping me to see my user account control settings?

HiWhen tries to use my scanner hp deskjet 2050 J510, I get a popup of user account control saying: do allow you the following program to make changes to this computer? Program name: scanning HP, verified Publisher: origin of the Hewlett Packard file: hard drive on this computer. Details, program location: "C:\Program Files (x 86) \HP\HP Deskjet 2050 J510 series\bin\HPScan.exe.» When I click Yes, nothing happens. When I try to view my UAC settings I can't view them. When I click on it in user accounts, the window opens but it is empty. Then after a few seconds it disappears. After that a few failed attempts at viewing I get a pop up that says that com Surrogate has stopped working. Windows can check online for a solution to the problem. No solution is ever found. Help, please.

This behavior is usually indicative of a virus or Trojan that blocks access to your security settings.  If you do not have an antivirus program, or if it has expired, I recommend that you use the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool (unique tool that is not 'install') and Microsoft Security Essentials (a current anti-virus program that is free and always will be).

  • After that Win7 SP1 firefox Gets a user account control prompt every time I open it.

After installing the windows 7 service pack 1 update, whenever Firefox is started I am invited guest UAC (User Account Control) to ask my permission because he will try to make changes. My UAC setting is enabled by default and reinstall the latest version of Firefox (3.6.13) does not alleviate the problem.

Check that you are not Firefox running as administrator.

Right click on the desktop Firefox shortcut and choose "Properties".

In the Compatibility tab, make sure that this level of privilege: "Run this program as an administrator" is not selected.

You should also check the firefox.exe program properties in the Firefox program directory.

  • Why User Account Control allow me on IE without permission after resetting IE

A few days ago I couldn't get on the Internet because IE would not work and internet connection was ok so out of desperation I did a reset of the EI. It still does not work then a member of the family came and got it works, but now I get the popup to permission to the user account control every time that I log on the desktop by clicking the shortcut of IE.  I went into the folder security and disabled UAC and now I only get this popup whenever I click on the desktop IE. This never used popup lights up when clicking on the shortcut of IE, so something must have happened when I did the reset Internet Explorer.  Does anyone know how to keep control of user account for all but IE?

I have a feeling that I accidentally changed a setting on IE and probably should not have an IE reset.but now the problem is that I like to keep the popup of User Account Control permission for everyone, but the IE shortcut on my desktop.

Furthermore, family member right clicking on the desktop for IE shortcut and did something with run as administrator to get IE working again.

My nephew looked at the problem that I had some time ago, but I told him to forget it because he really didn't have time to work on it. I just kept off UAC all these months and had no problems I do not download anything that I'm not sure. However, a few days ago I went back to this problem. I tried checking with the Compatibility tab, and as said above "Run as Administrator" was unchecked. This time I went to the contextual on properties of Internet Explorer and click on Advanced tab. Then I unchecked the run as Administrator box and I went back and UAC enabled and everything works well. Without UAC popups more!  I also did this for the exchange of information in the start menu and on the Quick Launch bar. For some reason any one on the keyboard had worked this time (he had not earlier) without a popup UAC even before I made the changes.  This is exactly what made me do some exploring more to see if I could get the other IE shortcuts to work.

I believe that another Member of my family who had helped me to get IE to work when I had problems to make on the internet even after a reset IE active the option "Run as Administrator". He has not been bothered by the popup and said if I was annoyed by it just turn off like he said I had a very good program antivirus (Norton) installed on my computer and it always warns you if a program you want to install is safe or not safe.

Hope this might help someone else who may have this problem.

    Hi JosephDoherty,

UAC (User Account Control) notifies you when changes will be made to your computer that require administrator-level permissions.

You can try to change UAC settings and see if it helps.

Note: You must restart your computer when you enable or disable UAC. Change levels of notification does not require that you restart your computer.

Important: Turn on UAC after you complete the steps.
