You can move to a new data store VMWare machine and if so, how?

Possinly a bit of a numpty question but here goes.

I created a VMWare machine, but VMWare files are stored on local storage. Now I'm assuiming that's why VMotion does not. My question is - is it easy to switch this machine in a store of data that is shared between hosts and how is it done.

If you are running ESX 3.0, then the simplest would be a cold migration.  Alternatively, you can use VMware Converter.

  • Storage Vmotion to a new data store get UUID and MAC change to hot after reboot

    Hello

I have a strange thing that happened on my vcenter.

Just do a vmotion hot storage between two data store.

I reboot the virtual machine and received no message to validate if I moved or copied.

When the virtual machine is restarted, I see that changing the UUID and MAC address.
Make me an error with an application running on it.

    Did anyone see that already?

We do some testing and solution for this problem is to download the VM's vmx file on the local system and apply these settings:

If you want to change the setting always or always create , power off the virtual machine and change its configuration (.vmx) file. Remove the line containing uuid.action = "crΘer" or uuid.action = 'keep'.

The configuration line such as this to keep the UUID and MAC after vmotion: uuid.action = 'keep '.

Reupload the file on the data store and restart the virtual machine

  • You can move pieces of card in memory of rocket and vice versa?

I just bought a 4 rocket GB for my girlfriend (for Christmas).  I have not yet opened and prefer not to do so.  She can open up to Christmas!

I was wondering if songs can be transferred directly from the microSD card to internal memory of the rocket.  All our songs are in MP3 format, or can be easily converted to MP3.

The only MP3 player I've ever had is my phone, which works well, but has a very heavy interface for the election of songs and playlists.  I can copy the microSD card in the phone directly.  In fact, it's the only way I know to get songs on my phone without having to pay to download.

Anyway, I can do it on the "rocket", or what I need to connect to a computer?

    Thank you

you will need to connect to the computer. Then, you can simply copy and paste. Other than this Nope.

  • Can't see the new data store

I created a new LUN on my NetApp storage system.   In VMware, the iSCSI initiator of software in "Static discovery" shows that the objectives have been discovered.  On the NetApp, one system "> iscsi initiator show" shows that the iSCSI HBA is properly connected to the storage system.  However, when I conduct a new analysis of data warehouses in vSphere client, the new LUN never appears so I can format it with VMFS.  Anyone know what could be the problem?

    Thank you!

You introduce the LUNS to the host/initiator group?

  • Move a vmdk file finely put in service a new data store - now it's thick?

    Hi all

To elaborate a little bit on the title, I installed a second hard drive in my ESXi 4 server.  All my VMs use discs finely put into service, however, after that I moved the files of the virtual machine to the new data store (using mv) and readded the virtual machine to inventory, the disks are provided are thinner but are thick.  This behavior is expected?

This is behavior expected - don't use mv to VMDK!

    Use rather
    vmkfstools-i thin d

who should be faster, more reliable and give you a choice for the type of provision

  • Can I delete the local data store on esx 3.5?

I have a client with vmware ESX 3.5 no esxi

They have a local data store but it is formatted with a block size of 1 MB, so I can put only a 256 GB VM out there and I need to put a test VM with a larger size.

I know that in ESXi 4 you can simply delete the local data store and create a new, but I'm not familiar with ESX 3.5, are there hidden files on the data store that the server uses?  If I search for the store there's nothing in there.

    Thank you

    Mike

    Hi Mike,.

You can simply reformat your data store. Take a look at the following article:

Of course, you must back up and delete any data you have on this data store before the format operation.

    Good luck!

  • Can I add a new page to both phone and desktop in the same respective location? Is only possible manually?

It seems that, once you create your phone site, a from there, when I add a new page for a layout or on the other, the command ' Page/go to even ' struggles. Can I create a new page and have it automatically create a page space reserved on the alternative format/site plan?

    Hello

To respond to your request, I'm afraid that you can't add a new page to both phone and desktop in the same respective location. You must manually do the same thing.

  • ESX 3.5 move VM OS to a new data store

    Update of ESX 3.5.0 Build 4 153875

I have a front-end server, Exchange 2007 (2008 x 64 OS), which has only a single drive (OS) configured on a data store presented by Clarion AX4.5 SAN. I wanted to move this disk in another data store that has more free space and the highest performance, but I'm not sure of the exact procedure.

1 so I wanted instead of the disc on the data store runnign run it on the data store 2.

Can I clone it to the same ESX host and simply select the new data store? Or would it be preferable to P2V to the new data store. This seems like it should be simple, but I'm stuck on what is recommended for this. Of course, since it is the front-end exchange I want nothing to screw.

Thank you in advance for your help!

If you have virtual center the easiest might be to cold migrate stop the virtual machine and migrates - you can leave it on the same ESX host, but will give you the ability to move the virtual disk.

  • Failed to get the disk partition information when you add the new data store

    Hello

Update my ESX to version 4 Update 1 (4.0.0, 256968). Now, I'm trying to add a new data store to a cluster in vCenter and receive the following error message when I will review the current structure of the disc "error when configuring the host: failed to get the disk partition information. When I click back, then next, there's no error message but in the formatting window, I get the error "Object reference" not set to an instance of an object.

I see this question has been asked before, but I can't seem to find an appropriate response. Anyone? The interface using CLI instead of vCenter isn't an option (alignment VMFS, workload and so on)

I use Dell R900 with an EMC Symmetrix VMax SAN

The size of the LUN I want to add is 741 GB

    Concerning

    Marius Aulie

If you have a virtual machine for Windows test, you could do the following, to ensure that the logic unit number has a clean partition table:

-set the LUN as a GROSS physical to virtual machine device

-Run diskpart, select the drive and run the CLEAN command

-detach the LUN to the virtual machine

-try to create the data on the LUN VMFS store

The size of the block of the data store where the VM test can be a problem with the above. Due to the size of the LUN, the size of the block of the data store must be at least 4 MB. Attach the LUN to a physical test system could be an alternative.

  • PowerCLI, vm of moving to the new data store

    Hello

I have to move vm to a new data store

What are the good commands powercli

my version of my CV is 5.0xxxx

    Thanks for your help

You can use the Move-VM cmdlet to move a virtual machine to another data store: for example:

    Move-VM - VM "MyVM1" - data store "MyDatastore1".

  • ESX3.5U4/VC2.5 - move vmdk to adequate data store and extend the drive on the virtual machine

ESX3.5U4/VC2.5 - move vmdk to adequate data store and extend the drive on the virtual machine

Objective: move vmdk to store data with adequate storage and then increase storage D: 20G to 100G

Converter is not available on this architecture. Can I migrate cold vm to the different data store, no prob.

Question: Without use of the converter, method 3 can be used without a secondary vm? In other words, just by using target vm offline, online, offline? Or is it a problem of signing/OS disk on the Windows Virtual PC?

I need to move vmdk in different LUN and extend drive vm windows on D: (non-OS drive). Is this possible via the single procedure? Options?

To use method 3 to http://communities.vmware.com/thread/81121 requires available vm 'secondary', I did not.

Method 3? Using of vmkfstools and another VM of Windows to extend a drive

o stop the VM to resize

o log in the console ESX Server via Putty

o Type? vmkfstools? X & lt; new size of drive & gt; vmfs/volumes / & lt; storage volume name & gt;. / & lt; virtual server name & gt;. / & lt; the virtual disk name & gt;? That is to say. /vmfs/volumes/Storage1/my_vm.VMDK new disk size can be specified in kilo, mega, or gigabytes and will be the total size of the new disk. So if you want to increase a virtual disk of 20 GB of 24GO you would put 24000 m or 24g

o the second virtual machine to help stop

o change the second virtual machine settings and add the first virtual machine hard drive

o power on the second VM and load the disk management snap-in and verify that the first virtual machine disk has unallocated on it space

o select Start, run and enter diskpart.exe

o the command? the list of volume? This will show you all the volumes.

o select your volume based on the results of the list volume command, IE. ? Select volume 1?

o type the command? extend? to extend the volume

o check again the disk management snap-in and the volume is expected to be expanded with a greater ability

o stop the second VM and remove (do not remove) the record of it

o turn your first VM and the new space should be there and ready to use.

Also, I'm already aware of Dell extpar:

    http://www.RTFM-ed.co.UK/?p=1310

    http://support.Dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us & CS = 19 & l = in & s = DHS & ReleaseID = R64398 & formatcnt = 2 & starts = 83929

for VI3, vmoiton of storage is made by RCLI plugin or a 3rd party

    I prefer the plugin

    http://www.virtualizationadmin.com/articles-tutorials/VMware-ESX-articles/VMotion-DRS-high-availability/storage-VMotion-SVMotion-VI-plugin.html

In addition, if the option to increase the size of the disk in the VIC is grayed out, it sounds like a permissions issue.  Finally, you can not extend the disc using the VIC, if the customer in question has a snapshot.

  • Cannot add a new data store

Let me preface this post by saying that I am an extreme noob to VMWare... Have only used MS HyperV in the past but looking to oust most of my hardware with VMWare on the recommendation of a colleague.

    On the problem.

I have a server Dell PowerEdge 2900 with 32 GB of RAM and 8 TB of disk space.

I installed ESXi yesterday and you can see my original data store, called "datastore1", which is only 325 GB.

I try to add a new data store, but when I go to 'Add storage' in vSphere, select ' disk/LUN", the list is empty.

I know I'm missing something, but don't know where to look.  What should I do to add a new datasore and subsequently more storage to my VMWare environment?

    DRM for all help!

To add a data store storage must be allocated to the vSphere server.  There is also a size limit of 2 TB less 512 bytes per LUN for a vSphere.   Try a few small LUN and see if they appear as available when you add a data store.   I have included a link pdf maximum configuration for vSphere 4.1

  • Comment fails to power after moving to a new data store.

I had this problem a lot where migrate machines. I navigate to the data store appropriate and right click on the folder of the guest, and I select "move". I choose the new data store and sit back and watch the progress bar. Once its migration adds the guest to the inventory and try to power on. Sometimes it works, sometimes I have to repeat the steps above twice. Why missing files when trying to turn on when I move the files this way?

Right-click on the virtual machine, click on migrate.  Follow the prompts for destination until you reach the Select data store.  Click the radio button "Move virtual machine and virtual disks configuration files" and select the new data store.

  • VDR can be saved in a data store

VDR can be saved in a store of data or just on a network share?

How can you save the data store?

Well, we need to create a NEW data store or you can add a player to the VDR device, and put this *.vmdk on a data store, so you use a data store to store backup data.  I recommend sharing backup with your VM storage, for reasons of recovery after a disaster.
