Moving from Windows XP disc to another P4 system.

Have a Pentium 4 with Windows XP computer.   Computer stop working.   Big worry: is the unit of much disc - with it, data files, applications, and Windows XP.   Found on the motherboard is dead.  Also found on disk hard is always good (after installing it, a PATA drive, as a slave in another computer drive) so... (phew!) ... we have lost data.

However, the best of all worlds, we would like to take the hard drive (with Windows XP, applications and data) and put it in another computer Pentium 4, we (Board different from that which is dead), using Windows XP, applications and so on which are already on the disk.   We do not want to reinstall Windows XP (or applications) if we have to.  And we cannot have all the drives in application.

We tried it, and we get an error in the sense of Windows XP does not recognize only not on this system (I do not write the exact message - I get it if someone needs).  We wonder if there is a way to make diagnoses or something else so that we do this disc and its Windows XP works on other Pentium 4 system without having to reinstall the operating system and applications.

Anyone know how to make this work?

Hi PML,

Thanks for the reply... and take the time to answer people on these forums.  I rent the unselfishness that implies.

We had a little luck on this system.  On further investigation, I decided to test the power supply.  Removed, measured two pins on the power cable with + 5 volts (as expected) - the + 5V voltage and the other is the son of "pull-down" which is normally to + 5V, but a field to make the power supply to turn on the other voltages (+ 12, -12, + 3.3 etc.).  When I put to ground the "pull-down' or 'Turn-on' son, I don't have the other voltages.  Conclusion: Power broken.

(So the same procedure on a known good power has supplied, and this procedure has given me other tensions, so I knew the procedure was good.)

Then attached a power known - was to connect all the connectors of the relevant motherboard, as well as external devices (hard drive, DVD drive, ZIP drive, etc.), not only the motherboard and hard drive - then (crossing fingers) turned on the power.  And to my surprise it booted up Windows XP.

I was pretty sure (the owner of the PC had assured me and the tech people at the local computer store had assured him) that the motherboard was no longer good.  He was more than a little surprised to find that the system still works.  So... we don't have a problem of license, or for any loss of data.  Good things.

    Hi zztopzztop,

Instead of a new user account, you can move the public folder of music, and from there the two accounts are accessible and played.

    Check out the link:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/sharing-files-with-the-public-folder

If you want to continue copying, then you can copy if the default location for the new user account.

Sign in with the user account that you may have created. To ensure that this new user account has administrator privileges.

    a. open the Explorer, click on organize, and select folder and Search Options

    b. click the display and check the option Show hidden files and folders box and click OK to save the settings.

Now navigate to your C:\Users\(Old Username folder) and copy all the files and folders in the folder C:\Users\(Old Username) in the C:\Users\(New Username folder).

    Hope this information is useful.

  • moving from windows to linux host host

Does anyone have any experience with workstation pro 12 comments mobile from windows to a linux host computer host?

If Yes, can it be done?

    Thanks for your time.

    Hello

Yes, this is no problem at all.

Your VMS even will run on a Linux machine as they did under a windows host.

The only problem is that if you link to a resource that explicitly is windows-only.

For example. A share under a numbered car won't work, or not a cdrom on D:\

Your VM will indicate on startup. BTW, when he asked 'have you move or copy' then choose 'move' otherwise your virtual hardware will get new hardware ID and for windows which means triggering activation.

  • Question about moving from windows to another drive for another computer without an optical drive

I bought new parts for an old PC: card MOTHER, video card, SSD, etc. However, currently the old parts that I have that I thought were able to move to the new computer - optical drive - are too old, because they use IDE instead of SATA cables.

Now I wonder, because I did not have a SATA USB cable where can I connect my SSD for my laptop, can I install a version of windows in this SSD to my laptop?

I have used a USB cable with an external DVD drive SATA and picked up in the BIOS, and started the installer of Windows 7, so I don't see why it shouldn't.

  • HP5610: Moving from Windows to MAC

I operated on two HP 5610 printer on a laptop with Windows 7 in two of these different places.  I go to a Macbook Air or Macbook Pro.  and I would like to continue to use these printers.  I have the original Macintosh - version 7.9.0 CD disk.  There's also this info about:

    OS X 10.2.8 v or more

    OS X v 10.3 or higher

    OS X v 10.4

Will it be possible for me to use these printers?

    Hello @paperdoll,

I would like to help you today with the Mac operating system compatibility options for your HP Officejet 5610 all-in-one printers. I found the following information.

    • On a Macintosh computer running Mac OS X 10.2:

It is printing only the capabilities for HP Officejet 5610 printers. The installation program can be downloaded by clicking here. Once the download is complete, simply run through the instructions on the screen to install your printer.

    • On a Mac under Mac OS X 10.3, Mac OS X 10.4 and Mac OS X 10.5:

There is a complete driver features that are available for printing and scanning capabilities. The full functionality driver package can be downloaded here. Once the download is complete all simply follow the instructions on the screen to install your printer.

    • On Mac OS X 10.6:

There is a full scan of features and the available print driver package. You can download and install your printer by clicking here.

    • On Mac OS X 10.7, Mac OS X 10.8, Mac OS X 10.9 and Mac OS X 10.10:

Due to the age of your printer, there is no downloadable HP full feature software and Driver package. You must install your HP Officejet functions using the Apple update feature. You can also manually download and install the HP Driver Package v3.0 for the computer. Please click here to download and install the package of pilot printing and scanning.

So, to answer your question, you should have no problem with Officejet 5610 printers on your new Mac computers.

Please let me know if the information provided is useful. I look forward to hear from you!

  • Is it possible that I can transfer all my Windows Setup disc to another while retaining my registry and let my games installed on the original drive?

I want to do is transfer my installation of Windows on a smaller hard drive while leaving my games on the current hard drive. I would also like to keep my registry so I need to reinstall the programs/games as little as possible. Thank you!

    It won't happen!

Even if you succeeded in transfer Windows to another drive open programs that remain on the other hard drive will not be able to open.

When programs have been installed, the locations have been written to the Windows registry would know where to find them.

Your route only for what you want to do, is install Windows on the smaller disk and reinstall all your programs to the other disk.

  • Moving from Windows to Apple with creative cloud

I currently use creative Cloud on Windows applications. I think to get the Apple but I am concerned about licensing and if existing my files will remain intact. One has experience?

Cloud license allows 2 activations http://www.adobe.com/legal/licenses-terms.html

    -Install on a 2nd computer http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1452292?tstart=0

-Windows or Mac has no importance... 2 on the same operating system or 1 on each

-Two activations may NOT be used at the same time (noted in the link above of the license)

The files that you create belong to you, to put on a USB stick to copy to another computer

I do not use Mac, but there MAY be some differences in project files (for example, a Premiere Pro project file) between versions

  • Moving from windows to mac. Do I need to buy a new version? Help!

I currently own PSE 7 for windows, and I switch to a mac computer. Is it possible to buy just a package upgrade or passing to the any rather than buy a whole new set of software? Because that seems like a waste of money. I got it recently too and cannot afford to buy a new one for a while. Please, I beg you! I am ready to pull my hair out on this one!

No, unfortunately, ESP is not cross-platform. If you have the latest version for a single platform, adobe will crossgrade to the other platform for a minimal cost, but since you have PSE 7 rather than 8 is not an option.

Either way, you know that there is no Organizer in the mac version?

If you need any type of material, such as a tablet or a scanner which comes with PSE, these discs usually include mac and windows versions.

  • Moving from Windows to Mac solid solution

    Hello

After 35 years with Microsoft (for MS - back), it's time to go back to Apple (used Apple IIGS, Apple IIc, Lisa Mac) to a MacBook Pro.

Breaker for me is a matter of maintaining and access (100% reliable read/write NTFS) my external HDD 3 3 TB each, with music, videos, documents, photos... and the music/video streaming of these hard drives (file sharing) to my network served stream HD 3D Dune (SMB) with the construction of files app yaDIS.

Dual-boot Windows is not an option that I can simply stay with Windows.

I have read a lot on the transition to Mac but could find a solution very solid.

    Alex

Paragon Software is the best solution more respectable and more reliable access to NTFS on a Mac format disks while running the Apple operating system and without having to boot into Windows.

    See https://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/

Yes there are other solutions, some might even be free, but Paragon have done this for a long time that is why they are now up to version 14 and they have explicitly added support for El Capitan as well.

  • I think moving from Windows to Mac.

I think to switch Windows 10 PC to a Mac. There really isn't enough information when I compare the models on this website & since I don't know anything about them I can't make a decision. I have a few questions. First of all, I have a HP 320-1120 all-in-one m. I don't like an all-in-one. Too restrictive on the updating of the material. I'm totally wireless in my house. We have 2 wireless printers, wireless, of the iPhone6 PC 2, an iPad3 & an iPad Air2. I know some technique, but not much. I use mainly myiPad Air for everything because I'm handicapped & cannot sit at a desk with a PC very long. I use my PC to store the images & music & running the Office on this subject. I use it, of course, for those things that cannot be done on an iPad. What Mac do you think would suit me better? Can I transfer my files to a Windows PC on a Mac? How hard is that? Can I use my external backup current Seagate with a Mac & reformat? Can I use my external drive to Seagate. current Expansion with the Mac? My printers will work with the Mac? They are both HP, wireless. An all-in-one HP8600 pro & an Envy100 HP engineering. A laptop, a desktop computer, or a mini would be best for my needs? Can I use the same modem & router? I have high speed internet through TWC, 30mbs. I know it is a lot, but if someone could help me I would be very happy.

I have a copy of Adobe Acrobat XI Standard windows with a product key on DVD. It includes only a copy of windows however. I changed Mac and no longer have a windows computer. I can give up my product key of windows to a mac to the same version of Adobe Acrobat product key?

No, you can't. If you subscribe to Acrobat, however, then you would be able to use it on any platform.

However, you need to get Acrobat Pro, as the Standard version is not available for Mac computers.
