You cannot change the file association for .exe owner program

Just bought new Win 7 Dell desktop running Home premium OS from an old XP computer file transfer.  I am a developer of s/w using a proprietary application that compiles the files of .xpa.  Using 'open with' when I try to associate the file .xpa at our request, it does not.  Instead:

1. the request does not appear in the list of programs to associate even if it has an .exe file extension

2. when I click on the .xpa file that I want to associate with the application, it is to be associated with a Windows Media file

Don't know what to do.

Thanks for any help.

  • accidentally changed my file association for utorrent and now not loading the game and programs and browsers

I accidentally changed something in my computer that shuts down my computer to open all the files, I can't even open the Microsoft Fit it online because when I go to install it, I get a pop up window asking me what program I want to run with, but none of the programs offered in the window will work to open the program file. I remember a couple of days ago I have has download a torrent file and one open pop-up window and asked me what program I wanted to associate this file type, I clicked on the option of utorrent, now none of my games, movies or programs run, when I click on them and try to open them I get the same pop-up box asking what application I want to use to open the program with.
am beyond frustration with this, I even uninstalled my UTorrent program hoping that would solve the problem, but no luck, the game/files/movies and browsers does not start without changing the file to open with something that is not available in the list of the programs listed.,.

I would be really grateful for the help in reassociating my files for the games will be automatically start as before.

    1. How are you sure that you change the individual file extension and not the entire folder?
    2. how exactly you try this?

To change a name of file, all you have to do is right click on the file, and then click Rename, instead of the path you describe in the thread.

  • You cannot change the location to another drive for registration

Original title: I am trying to download pictures and videos from my iphone and it says that the c drive is full and it will not automatically save the e drive. How can I get to save on drive e?

My system is Vista (C :) and currently has only 252 MB of free space. Drive (E :) has 95.6 GB free, but it does not automatically save everything I am inporting on this disc. How can I get to do this? I have already increased the size of the files of pagination for the two discs.

    Hello

    1. what happens when you try to download to the new location?

    2. do you get an error message?

    Step 1:

I suggest to change the default location for Documents, music and photos, or you can free up hard drive space and check if you are able to download the photos.

To free up space in the main drive (c drive), follow the steps mentioned in the link below:

    Delete files using disk cleanup

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup

    Step 2:

To change the default save location:

Follow the steps and check out them.

    a. create a new folder where you want to store your files

    b. open the default folder (where your files are now) C:Usersyour_user namedocuments.

    c. click on the Documents folder, and then choose Properties.

    d. click on the location tab, and in the location box, you'll see the default location

    e. click the Move button and navigate to the location where you default to be folder. (from step 1) and then click Select folder.

    f. the new default location now appears in the location box. Click on apply

    g. the dialog box move folder will now appear and ask if you want to move all the files from the old location to the new location. Click Yes.

    h. you will see the moved files, and then click Ok to finish.

    9. If you want to move your other default folders simply follow the same steps as above.

Now, check if you are able to download the photos to the new location.

Increasing the pagefile will allow only in the creation of the CPU to use more virtual RAM. It will increase the size of the RAM but will take more space on the hard drive. This will improve the performance of the computer. You should only increase the pagefile, if you encounter performance problems.

Change the size of virtual memory

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/change-the-size-of-virtual-memory

I also suggest you to consult the manual of the Iphone for specific details about changing the default location for saved files. You can also contact apple for further information on:

  • Changing the cursor for a helping hand in the text and you cannot change the sentence or paragraphs in boxes to listen audio mode

In Acrobat Reader if you're going to see menu and scroll all the way to ' Read out Loud ' and activate it, you can listen to the texts.  And you can also take the blinking cursor and click on the sentence or paragraph and a box turns around the sentence or paragraph and reads within the selected text.  But in Acrobat DC the cursor flashing in the text box has changed to a f * k * g hand grabber and you stop to select whatever it is!  How can we change back the hand f * k * grabber g in a cursor blinking so I can choose the text I want to listen or to highlight or mark?  Can someone help me on this?

    Hi dales45194090,

You can change the options to use Select or hand tool under Edit > Preferences > General

Also, if you have selected "use keys.. accelerators" option, then you can simply press V as the shortcut key for the selection tool.

  • Cannot change individual file Associations

I can't change individual file associations. The most I can do is assign an application given to 'all' the files it can open or just to 'some' of the files it can open. (And someone else chose it as 'some' is.)

    I'll give an example:

I installed QuickTime Player. When I look through the QuickTime Player file associations, I see that one of the formats that QuickTime is configurΘ for dΘmarrer is DV. I don't want QuickTime to open the DV files. I have another request for this. However, I can't remove the check mark from the DV file association. In fact, I can't remove all checkmarks of the files that QuickTime is set to open.
So my question is: How can I change the file to a unique and specific file type association?

    Hello

    1. press the Windows key + X to display the system menu, and then click Control Panel.

2 select default programs. Click on a file type or Protocol with a program.

    3. wait for the window to fill and scroll down to the file type that you want to change, click the file extension. This will show the current default program associated file type.

    4. click on change program button.

    5. If the program you want is not listed in the recommended programs section, click on the Browse button.

    6. in the Browse window, navigate to the executable (.exe) file for the program you want to use and Select this file. Click the Open button. In the next window, click OK.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

    Concerning

  • You cannot change the format of the cursor

    Original title: mouse cursor

Cannot change the format of the cursor; message says no file found - for example, C:\WINDOWS\Cursors\arrow\_rl.cur

_rl.cur is not a slider that comes with XP. Nor is the folder named arrow. You must have installed a 3rd slider party system and I guess you are trying to change that.
    Try to reinstall it.

  • How can I change the file association in Windows XP

All my WORD documents and such are automatically saved in a WORDPAD document, how can I stop that?

While the file associations in windows do not address how a file should be opened,

It does not address how a file should be saved.

the method of saving in a program is controlled by this program.

Therefore, if you use word 2003, then you must change to save documents rtf to word documents.

try clicking on Word Tools Menu then Options file.

then under the tab backup, do not forget to select the right format for saving your documents, IE Word documents (* .docs).

  • Cancel the file association for extension .lnk to origin of the "unknown program" settings

I got interrupted and changed the file on the extension .lnk association to my browser.  Now, all shortcuts open with the browser.
I need to restore this file associated with the unknown program.

I tried running system restore, but it fails for reasons unknown, but probably because of a call to a .lnk (?) file

No details on editing the registry to correct this errow would be appreciated.  Thank you.

The answer to my own question, but for those of you are having problems with file associations in Windows 7, which does not propose a deletion or to remove the feature, see this link:
    http://www.Winhelponline.com/articles/231/1/an-utility-to-unassociate-file-types-in-Windows-7-and-Vista.html

Download the unassoc zip file and follow the instructions.  Worked like a charm.
