You need to reinstall Windows Vista, or upgrade to Windows 7 How can I keep my software?
My Vista laptop bogged down and is virtually unusable. I think I'll fix by opting for 7. That seems to require that I have to format the drive. I have saved data, but what software. I have Office 2007 on my computer and I would like to keep. I can't find my product key. How can I keep this all in repair, program to update my OS?

I can read only half of my product key due to wear, but I need to reinstall xp on my hard drive again. How can I get the key?
If you can still boot your old disk, you can use a program such as one of them:
KeyFinder: <> http://www.magicaljellybean.com/ >
Belarc Advisor: <> http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html >to read the key out of your old system.
Also note that if you have a system OEM and the OEM installation disks, the key can be incorporated in the installation discs and can not be necessary when your reinstalling Windows.

You need to reinstall Windows XP. Do I need the CD of the motherboard?
Hello
someone gave me a computer with some virus on it. I want to wipe the hard drive and install xp. Here's the question-have I need motherboard cd (which I don't have) for installation? or can I just put the xp cd in and then finished?
the mb cd would not have the bios or other important things on that I might need?
any info will help you.
Thank you... pat
(it is a different computer from my other post).
You can install XP from installing XP, but you need to maybe go online with another computer and download the network drivers (put it on a USB key) and install those first. From there, you can do just that with the new PC. You can visit the Web site of the manufacturers of drivers for everything.
Most, if not all, stuff on the CD are available online. It's just get online which can be the first hurdle. -

You need to reinstall Windows XP Media Center.
Original title: my MS answers forum.
I try a clean reinstall of my Acer ASPIRE running MS WIN XP MEDIA CENTER VERSION 2002 SP3. When the PC was purchased the first task was to burn 2 DVD. Now I can locate the Acer E-recovery on the PC but don't want to save the data, simply create a CD or access to the recovery options. Y at - it an App on the DVD that has them, I can see STCDBOOT. ISO 119.170 FILE WinZip, which is. Was told to start with the DVD on the tray, of no use and start holding the key pressed ALT and pressing F10 does not. Any suggestions would be really appreciated! BRITISH COLUMBIA
Hi BeeCees,
· You have the two blank DVDs you have burned when you got the computer?
· The Acer E-Recovery software does not give an option to clean install without saving the data?
I recommend you contact Acer support for instructions on how to reformat their PC using the Acer E-Recovery software without migrating their data on.

I have a situation where my PC seems to be compromised by a virus or similar thoughly.
I want to perform a low-level format low-level the disks and start over. However, I have a single windows license and I'm afraid that if I do the format I am unable to reinstall it with my product key (as it is already registered).Can someone advise how I de-register my copy of windows and retrieve the product key, so I can install it again as a new copy?
(I don't want to use the options panel, as they appear to use some sort of system image stored on the machine. As far as I know, that the virus hide. It has already been proven extremely resistant to any attempt to restore my anti virus.)
You can reactivate simply by phone:
Activate Windows 7 manually:
1. click on start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 42. press enter on your keyboard
3. Select your country.
4. Select the telephone activation option and brace yourself for a real person. -
I had to reinstall Windows. How can I find/see my browsing history?
Firefox constantly broke when he visited the sites (and Pale Moon, but not Chrome/Opera), so I took the decision to re - install Windows to a State of charge. Of course, I can now use Firefox again, but all my browsing history is passed. All the old Windows files and variables were stored in a Windows.old folder, but I can't yet find the story. Is it possible to re - install the story or at least see?
I know details that are stored in the places.sqlite file, which I have found, but I am at a loss of what to do next.
You can find the old profile in the folder windows.old and that switch to your new profile of recovery of data from an old profile
Since you have re-installed, it's a good time to make sure that you configure your computer to run solidly in the future:
- Install a Windows Update (including service packs, recommended updates, etc.). Run it a few times to make sure that you get all updates.
- Update your plugins https://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/
- Install the latest graphics driver, update your drivers graphics to use hardware acceleration and WebGL
- Updated Firefox (version you are using is obsolete) Update Firefox to the latest version
- Make sure that you install an anti-virus, I suggest Microsoft Security Essentials, http://windows.microsoft.com/windows/security-essentials-download

I need to reinstall Windows Vista to do a reinstall of Windows 7 upgrade?
I have an Alienware Area 51 750i. He is initially provided with windows Vista but had a free upgrade to windows 7. My hard drive has acted lately and I think to replace. I have to buy a new drive for windows 7 or I can use my old copy and install it on the new hard drive. The computer came with a Windows Vista recovery disk and also the disk to upgrade to windows 7. Thank you
You can reuse your Windows 7 license on the new hard drive. You need to reinstall Windows Vista on the new hard drive, and then perform a custom installation of Windows 7 during installation of Windows Vista. You may need to reactivate by phone:
How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)
1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4
(2) press the ENTER"" key.
(3) select your "country" in the list.
(4) choose the option "activate phone".
(5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.
(6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.

How to get Vista recovery Media or the Vista recovery Partition on your computer back to factory settings.
There is no Vista free download legal available.
Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.
Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.
See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.
Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...
Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ask them if you can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.
They will tell you how to do this.
Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.
If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):
Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
